Adames over Bregman.  Experience be damned…

Either way... Grab two aces and an All Star, middle-of-the-lineup hitter for the same prices (approximately)... or, as others have said, trust your farm system... Give Campbell a Chourio-like deal and let him develop and give him the opportunity to play most days.

Maybe i'm off on this, but i just don't see Henry signing pitchers over the age of 30 to long term contracts.  So I started looking on low revenue teams that have a plethora of young pitching that need outfielders.  The Reds (Burns,Lowder), Pirates (Jones, Ortiz, Chandler,Ashcraft,Harrington) and Marlins (Perez,White,Meyer) all fit the bill.  I think most of these can be obtained by Abreu as the center piece.  If Soto is signed, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that Duran will be moved.

The pirates have a lot of outstanding young arms. I have seen Ashcraft pitch and he has some decent stuff

The Pirates would probably give him away.   He’s 25 years old, been in their system for 7 years, and lost two full seasons due to injury.   After all that, his entire career that started in 2018 consists of 61 games.  37 of which were A ball or below.

If the Sox want him, I imagine that’s a quick phone call

Duran would have to bring back a really good, cost-controlled, 3+ year pitcher.

We'd also have to have faith in Rafaela in CF, but I guess we could do this:

LF: Soto

CF: Anthony v RHPs and Rafaela v LHPs (maybe Campbell)

RF: Abreu v RHPs and Anthony v LHPs

When people are relying on the guy holding the door open at Dunkies for Soto news, you know you’re hard up.

Should find out soon if it was Soto news or Soto ruse... or Sox got Soto used.

Once the Soto rumors are officially rumors, I swear to give John Henry more money... at least a dollar so I can read about the rumors on Boston.com for the next six months.

At the moment it's this or debating the merits of signing Trevor Bauer.

The guys who say the MLB free agent season is an absurdly dragged out and excruciatingly frustrating process to follow have it right, I'd say.

1.  Is this fellow worth listening to?  Or is this really no different than if some bozo like me started tweeting about how Soto recently started eating clam chowder and replaced the word “very” in his vocabulary with “wicked”?

2.  Apartments in Boston?  His deal will be longer than a decade and worth over half a billion dollars.  Why is he looking to rent?

This feels like a desperate attempt to keep this non-story alive…

Players often rent apartments during the season.  Of course with a big star on a long term deal it might just be a temporary arrangement prior to buying a house.

Anyone else scared the Mets will up their offer at the last minute to steal Soto away?

I still feel the winning bid for Soto will end up around 650m.

I don't think these are "final" offers.

I think if Juan Soto is looking at this strictly as an EBay auction it'll be the Mets.  Very difficult for the Sox to outbid Steve Cohen when he's the sole owner of the team and he's worth over $20 billion.

I'm not so sure the owner's net wealth is as big a factor as you make it out to be.

JH is filthy rich, too, and when we are talking about adding another $10-20M, spread over 13-14 years, the percent of cost vs net wealth between Cohen and JH is negligible.

If the bidding goes beyond the point of reason (Has it already?) then I guess you can say that if Cohen wants Soto, at any cost, he will win. We know JH sets limits.

Does the "EBAY+ auction include factoring in taxes and cost of living between NYC and Boston?

I guess one could also factor in endorsement possibilities between the two cities as being a plus to NYC.

I think the big difference is that Cohen owns the Mets 100%.  He can do whatever he wants without answering to anyone.  Henry is only the biggest shareholder of Fenway Sports Group.  There are a large number of shareholders involved.

I'm not sure JH has to get approval for upping an offer by $10-20M over 14 years. Even if he does, I'm not sure "No" will be the answer.

We're all just guessing, of course, about what will happen if it turns into an all-out bidding war.

Cohen scares me to death if that's what it comes down to.  He seems the type who would literally throw "eff you" money at this.

I think we really need Soto to prefer to play in Boston.

Why would the Sox be fighting for team options at his age 38/39/40 seasons lol?

It's amazing what people just make up and throw at the wall.
