Many, many, many fond memories.

He was truly a great pitcher, who had to reinvent himself after the injury.

That WS loss to Cincy was tough to take, as a kid, but he gave us something to be proud of, and his base-running, something to laugh about.

Underrated as a big game pitcher.  He belongs in the Hall of Fame.  That was a terrible oversight.  He was a great person too.

He's right between Jim Palmer and Don Drysdale per Jay Jaffe's JAWS calculation at 44th of all time. He's more than deserving.

Those of us who rooted for the Red Sox from 1972-78 would pick Tiant as the one starting pitcher to win one game -- winner-take-all -- for any pennant, World Series, or for the fate of the free world...

... and that's over Pedro, Schilling, Beckett or Derek Lowe (and I won't mention anyone else who couldn't even beat those guys or Dave Stewart).

el Tiante was easily my favorite pitcher as a kid.

I have to agree, with Schilling as a close second. (early Beckett was awesome, too.)

R.I.P. Luis Tiant.  I agree that he should be in the Hall of Fame.  Some of the voters just look dumb with their supposedly  ultra high standards . Among my collection of Red Sox memorabilia is a ball autographed by both Tiant and Jim Rice.

I really detest RIP threads, but I'll make an exception here.

Tiant was quite possibly the most lovable of all Red Sox heroes.

I'll echo notin and hope Luis is enjoying a fine cigar right now.

They asked about his signature pitch on a show and was told he threw every pitch in  the book, plus two

loved to watch him
