Is Nate Eaton a top prospect? NO! How about Trace?  Who were the people slotting KC in on the opening day roster? Cora? Brez? I get what you are saying, but I still believe people would be ranting, and raving if KC was 10-21. I don’t get into ST stats either, and all I care about is coming out of Sat healthy, but lots of fans get into every AB, or every pitch. I just think whomever should play it both ways, and be consistent depending on how someone does good, or bad. I have never counted on any of the top suspects making the opening day roster anyway, but some did.

I don't see anyone on here getting into every AB of Spring Training. I'm one of the few posters that even posts in the Spring Training games thread. I doubt many people are even watching the games.

The A's just locked up Lawrence Butler to $65.5M/7. He was not going to reach free agency until 2029, so the A's got way out in front of this guy. There is a club option for 2032.

Will the Sox extend any or their younger players, soon? How about Crochet?

Crochet and Anthony sound like they won't extend. 😔

The Red Sox would have to really make it worth it for Crochet to extend, and that’s highly debatable that they will. Brez could surprise though.🤫

Can't say that I blame them. Their biggest worry may be injury.

So you're saying it's the Sox who don't want to extend them?

moon has it backwards. Crochet has stated that he wants to play this year out and Anthony stated that he wants to go year to year a la Betts.

Yeah, I thought he had it backwards.  Trying to keep Mister Magoo on track here is hard work.

No, not at all.

I'm not sure how much they want to extend them, and JH & his wallet may be the issue, and not the wishes of Brez & Co.

How is what I said "backwards?" I just mentioned that injury may be the only reason pushing them to sign, and it may not be a big enough issue to override their desire to not sign, this year.

Is this post referencing players or ownership?

If it's the players, the biggest worry being injury would have them extend early and it contradicts my point as I've said they DON'T want to sign!

If it's the ownership, the biggest worry being injury would have them only extend players on cheap money, which would make most players unlikely to extend.

And now Crochet is saying something completely different to what he said just last week. Maybe he just realized "I want to play this season out first" doesn't play as well as "I just wanted to get an extension done in ST."

Deadlines don’t always mean much. Even Cora signed during the season last year when he said he wouldn’t.

Very true.

The post I replied to said "Crochet and Anthony sound like they won't extend"

I felt it was implied I was talking about the players, and the main reason they might want to extend is worry about a major injury in 2025 lowering their value.

True, maybe ownership may not want to extend out of fear of an injury, too, but I was replying to the player comment.

Right, moon?

Maybe. I don't know.

Maybe this is how he felt all along, elbow barking or not.

I don't get why what I said is causing such a commotion.

So, what Cora says can't always be taken at face value.

I will vouch for the fact that your post was very confusing.

We had a lot of discussion about what kind of offer it would take to sign Crochet to an extension.  If they show him the right numbers why wouldn't he take it?

And the injury risk is a known part of the equation.

I understood ya.  You were saying they know that if they stay healthy, talent wont be an issue and theyll get a big payday so the only reason for them to re-up now would be fear of injury

most likely hes posturing.  Im looking to sign an extension vs im not looking to sign an extension so if you are going to put one in my face, come big cuz im fine going year to year

I guess I could have written another 5 paragraph post, but I felt that responding to a post about what Crochet and Anthony said, I was talking about them, ot Sox management.

I do think Crochet must have injury concerns. I'm not sure Anthony is all that worried.

Crochet sets Opening Day deadline for extension talks.

Gerrit Cole has been recommended for TJS and will get a second opinion.

Wow!!! Cole is trying to follow the Chris sale path to delay the inevitable

Doctor: " Gerrit, you need Tommy John surgery".   Cole: " I want a second opinion ".  Doctor: " Okay. You can't get Devers out to save your butt".

Surgery is probably a more intimidating solution for affected players than for fans, many of whom think it should be done ASAP…

Most likely, athletes are less intimidated about the actual procedure, but more worried about how much playing time they'll miss during recovery.

If a player is just sore, he can always rest briefly, then play at less than full strength (which is what most guys do every year of their careers, anyway). But once surgery is done, there are specific shutdown periods which can't be ignored in the healing process...

Interesting demos on MLB Channel with Seth Lugo showing pitching grips. His slider and curve grips were just slight adjustments on the seams, thrown with the same motion he said puts no twist or strain on his elbow.

The one pitch he showed that he expressly said did require more twist and put more strain on his elbow was Breslow and Bailey's favorite: the sweeper.

Maybe it was no coincidence that a career workhorse like Giolito hadn't blown out his elbow since he was a teenager until his first Spring Training with Boston. We'll never know if he already had some vulnerabilities in the ulna area, but something had to go wrong that caused him to serve so many gopher balls the year before...
