Attaching Casas for them to take Yoshida is fricking stupid.

They'd have to give us Herrera and Helsely, plus cash.

Of course, but can't be counted out with this front office. As unlikely as it is.

They haven't done a stupid trade since Sale.

LOL

I'm not going to get worked up over hypothetical bad trades until one actually happens.

Plan 1: Sign Bregman to a 3-4 year deal

Plan 2: Trade low level prospect(s) for Arrenado's full contract

Plan 3: Shrug and say "at least we tried" to the fans

We are $31M under the tax line. I doubt we go over by choosing these two guys.

Why would we take Arenado's full contract, when STL is willing to pay a pretty big chunk of it?

I wouldn't give a prospect even if they pay near half.

I'm not going to get worked up about hypothetical bad trades, either.

I am going to waste time thinking about them, though.

Quick notes from Craig Breslow’s first media availability of spring training:

- still looking for a righty bat
- Red Sox are “definitely” considering a 6-man rotation
- very happy with Vaughn Grissom’s offseason, he gained 20 lbs
- open to doing closer by committee

Gabrielle Starr.

So, basically, we have no lockdown closer, so we will cycle through until we find one that gets the job done, or who sucks less than the others, as a closer.

It boggles my mind, how they build up a pretty good roster, but leave such a gaping hole at a key position, like a closer.

Because an MLBer bulking up always works out!

Was looking forward to committee talk again...

Lockdown closers demand contracts for more than one year. But the Boston brass is so fricking smart they have calculated that relievers fluctuate so much from one year to THE NEXT that nobody is worth a multi-year offer at market value.

We have to keep in mind the future, after all. We wouldn't want to try to win it all this season, when we might be able to sign another name next season that once was good and will cost less because of a recent injury.

Plus, we have stockpiled so many formerly good relievers that one of them is bound to rebound or emerge this year. Like Koji did in 2013... or nobody else in the history of Red Sox World Series championships.

I'd have settled for the one year deals given to...

Yates $13M/1

Estevez $22M/2 (not really a closer)

Even Sewald at $7M/1 gives us another option.

Robertson might still sign for a 1 year deal... maybe 2.

Robertson should get a deal similar to Jansen's 1/10.

Chapman has 335 career saves. 16th most all time. Getting old, but still hits triple digits.

I'm not sure how much that matters, after what he's shown over the last 3-4 years, but add another guy to the list of great hopes on players who were great 2-5 years ago.

The whole Bregman saga is getting tiring.

As is virtually every free agency signing these days,

We need a signing/free agency window!! The most recent exciting moment in the sport was post lockdown a few years back.

But what would we talk about when the window closes?

The Red Sox window needs to stay open, so they can keep spending to acquire the top talent that will boost them in the standings and ensure deep runs in the postseason.

I dunno... maybe we spend more time with the kids?
