The last time Criswell faced the O's: 4IP, 7 ER.

This is his first start in almost a month.

Burnes vs the Sox this year: 14 IP, 1 ER, 11 K, 5 BB, 5 H, 0.714 WHIP.

Sox on Friday Nights in 2024: 6-14.

Sox are 63-57 and trending downward because the pitching stinks. It does not help that the Sox are in the toughest division in MLB and right now are playing the Orioles, who own them.

Devers' OPS for August is .709, so it's probably a good bet the shoulder is bothering him. In July his OPS was 1.132, in June 1.015, and in May .919.

@ChrisCotillo

Sources: Barring something unforeseen before first pitch, Triston Casas is expected to be activated for the Red Sox in Baltimore tonight.

The wait is over.

I don't remember if I posted this news earlier.

And the wait to see if he has recovered and can hit a ton has started. Wither Dom Smith ?

He is still sore and really feels in during an at bat whenever he fouls off a pitch.

Thunder has an unbeaten streak going. We need to raise some funds and get him to a few games.

Thunder actually said he was going to be at the games tonight and tomorrow night.

D Smith DFA'd.

He did pretty well for us.

Thanks.

There goes the only good bullpen arm. :(

That really kinda sucks. He was fun as hell. I know it would have been hard to keep him around, but he was great.

He'll be one of those "remember those guys."

Oh hell yes. He's putting his reputation on the line.

A fair point. Tricky situation. But the MRI and no doubt medical opinion seem to say it's OK to swing hard and test the damaged/recovered muscles.

Actually pretty sad about that. He wasn’t great but he was a great clubhouse guy and I worry about Casas actually being healthy and feel like we might need a 1B sometime again this season.

When I took my kids to Fenway this year, it was the first game Dom Smith pitched out of the pen. One of those fun moments that I'll remember for a long time.

I actually saw him homer in person in two games this year somehow. One in Cincy and one against Oakland in Boston.

i think you are truly correct here. It will take Casas some time ( week/month ?) to catch back up to MLB pitching , and he does not get to hit vs the Sox pen.

Maybe Breslow could have sent Sogard, Gonzalez, etc. down for a week or two and keep Smith handy . Casas did have plenty of time in WooSox land. Odd that a foul ball hurt him. Hopefully not a 3 run jack

Hey y’all! Here in Baltimore. 14 game in person win streak on the line. I was at the game in which Casas got hurt, so I’m pumped to be at the game in which he returns

Just tuned in to NESN. A guy on a promo hypes the push towards the playoffs and adds "maybe even a division title."

Then the announcers note that instead of Criswell starting, the Red Sox will OPEN with a reliever they just sent to the minors earlier this week.

On the mound for the Orioles (tied for most wins in baseball) will be the top of the rotation starting pitcher they traded for last winter. You know, the guy who started this year's MLB All-Star Game...

This is where we stand in mid-August 2024.

SOX FO can't DFA Dalbec; he's still in possession of incriminating photos of JH.

Unless those photos are of Henry building a school for orphans or donating his liver or something else that might make us feel guilty for hating him, they’ve already been neutralized…

Thunder’s toughest challenge yet…
