Criswell vs Carrasco(RH)

It appears from the MRI that Casas has a fractured rib from a hard swing. He's looking to be on the IL for 6 months.

To help remedy the situation the Cubs have just recently DFA'd their 1st baseman Garrett Cooper. He's an 8 year veteran with an OPS+ of 109.

If the SOX FO has any interest in making this team half-way competitive, they will make a large effort to snag this guy. Obviously, Dalbec and Reyes aren't the answer.

Btw, Cooper is also an above average glove at 1st and he bats from the right side.

I have no confidence this FO jumps at this opportunity.

I seem to remember we were interested in Cooper, last year, but that was a different. I will not likely hi 109 OPS+, this year, but he has to be better than Dalbec.

Demoting or DFA'ing Dalbec does force Reyes to be the only 3Bman on the 26.

Casas's fracture was likely a stress fracture, right? The break occurred on one swing but the bone was probably weakened from the stress his swing put on it over time.

CBS Injury Report says after June 1st, but this could be a whole season missed.

A 60 Day IL could be used to make room for Cooper.

Just DFA Dalbec. Seriously what does that guy have to not do to get cut?

And it’s not like anyone is going to claim Dalbec. You can just re-sign him and use him to fortify Worcester’s lineup…

I agree. I'd be okay with Casas to the 60, Copper added to the 26 and Dalbec sent to AAA, but I do think he is toast, so just cut ties.

Add Westbrook in his place, or even Kavadas.

Somebody claimed Jacques- oh yea, the NL Champs did.

Somebody claimed Braiser, last year.

You never know, but who cares. Nobody will miss Bobby Dee.

And if he leaves and is successful, it's not the fault of Sox coaching. Sometimes players just need to turn the page and move on. Dalbec is good enough to be a 100 wRC+ hitter in MLB. He's just in his head.

True, and what Jacques, Brasier and Dalbec all have in common is all of them would have OPSs under .200.

The only reason to keep Dalbec at this point is to see if there is any value in covering him to a pitcher. I doubt anyone would claim him, but I won’t consider it a loss.

I’m also starting to notice the errors the Sox have made with their DFAs. Why did this team ever get rid of Joel Payamps and Zack Littell?

Oh, you mean to cover for that guy Nevers when he can't play ?

I was actually thinking of SS, at the time, but maybe both.

I mentioned yesterday that this injury is a test , as was Gio's, for this new/old front office to take some direct action to support the team. You know that Breslow, Romero and the analytic nerds know every single MLB, MiLB player , including semi-retired, and how to reach them or their agent. Including Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican and Samoa they must have data on every possible ballplayer to find some help here. Not looking for an All-Star, just a competent replacement player, even with a -0- WAR

Do it NOW

He explained part of the problem is that he's so big and strong, that the torque of his swing did the damage.

Just wondering how recurrence can be prevented in the future? Swing easier? Bat righty and crack the other side for better balance? Or can comic book surgeons just reinforce his ribcage with Wolverine adamantium alloy?

Bello on IL. Could it get any worse?

CLEVELAND -- Another day, another injury for the Red Sox, who have become almost numb to it at this point. The latest development occurred a few hours before Wednesday night’s game against the Guardians, when righty Brayan Bello was placed on the 15-day injured list retroactive to April 21 with

Raffy back in the lineup tonight at DH. NOshida riding the pine again.

Cora stated that Masa is not hurt. What's the deal there?

The returning injured guys has taken the DH spot last night, and tonight, so NOshida has been odd man out. Except for this past Saturday NOshida hadn’t been doing much anyway.

There has always been a revolving door of these type of players that seem totally washed up to one team.

I have very few regrets about anyone we DFA'd in the last 5 years or so- maybe longer.

We've done pretty good with some of the guys we've picked up from waivers- sometimes just for a short period, but sometimes for a few years. Here is a short list of some, off the top of my head:

Waivers:

Bernardino

Schreiber

Arroyo

Phillips Valdez

MiLFA

Refsnyder

To deal with the insurmountable injuries, the SOX FO has increased the size of their medical staff.

When questioned about the injuries to the SOX, JH responded " some of the money saved on free agency can now be allocated to a much larger medical staff."

JH immediately left, saying he was headed to his counting house to count all his money.

BTW, is Devers one swing away from joining the group on the IL? Stay tuned.

I worry about that every time he steps in.

So when do the Sox decide to give Yoshida a 1b mitt?

The Sox podiatrist is fitting Yoshi for his custom lifts now. He really should be cross-trained there seeing as he has little other value in the field, and range is not a big factor at 1st.
