guy hasn't played a game yet but he is the saviour. Meanwhile what are the plans to replace Story at a fairly important position?

Nobody has ever said anything remotely about Grissom being a savior. There are no Grissom superfans here. I don't get some of this Grissom narrative that is building.

Is MLB different in Atlanta?

Only 236 PAs, but that's 236 more than Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kyle Teel combined...

Yes, Atlanta is more competitive these days.

Nobody has come close to calling him a savior or great player.

Saying the guy should be better than Arroyo/Valdez/Kike/Urias/Reyes is not anointing him as anything more than maybe better than replacement level. He'll likely be an improvement on D. The O is harder to call.

Wow, this guy is in LOVE with Grissom. He should marry him!

Valdez is just flat out useless. If you can't field, you need to at least be able to get your OPS+ up over 82. He's like an even more useless Dalbec...

Dalbec should be the backup 3B. I'd rather he start than Reyes.

Things are desperate for IF help at the moment is the way I look at it.

And there's a chance he comes up and sucks too! It's on the table and always has been. He was just penciled in as the starter because the other options were runny dogshit.

Pitchers are really shaking in their boots with Reyes' 310 OPS.

It's still .310 points higher than Dalbec's...

Reyes may only have three hits, but Dalbec only has 3 fair balls so far this year...

I was wondering about our back-up 1Bman, all winter.

It's a continuation of the same roster head-scratching we've been seeing in recent years. There are obvious needs that just don't get filled.

To me, the focus needed to be on the starters, first, and since we didn't even fill all those roles, adequately, it's understandable some back-up roles were lacking. Certainly, defense was not a key to choosing our subs.

Too many people were. I don't get why that would even be on the radar given the clear lack of a starting catcher and questionable starter (and now) bullpen depth we all saw coming as well.

If it came right down to it, Reyes could probably handle 1B as an emergency starer/fill-in better than Dalbec. You might not be impressed with his .310 OPS, but again, it is .310 higher than Dalbec. And his .716 OPS last year was higher than Dalbec's .570. No one is saying Reyes is the answer, unless the question is "what utility infielder on the Sox does everything better than Dalbec?"

We added O'Neill and Grissom as starters, and when counting O'Neill in RF, I agree. I do see Grissom as an upgrade on D, at 2B, but nobody knows if he will end up being a plus, there.

Cora did end up making Rafaela the starter, which was a plus, on paper.

He moved Yoshida to DH and Duran from CF/LF to just LF, mainly. That was a plus.

He left the worst 3Bman at 3B, the worst 1Bman at 1B and our catchers, the same.

The SS situation is what it is. The subs have been horrible for years. (He did replace Bogey with Story as the starter, but injuries killed that plan.)

When healthy this team certainly is much improved over last year, when we had no 2B, a Gold Glove centerfielder playing Rust Glove shortstop, and some serious question marks in LF, CF, 1B, and 3B...

I think pitchers would still rather face Reyes than Dalbec if given the choice.

The backup is Refsnyder when he gets back.

All true. But when unhealthy -- from what we've already seen -- there indeed is a need for a 2nd 8th-inning reliever.

Look at it this way: even if you're a lights-out set-up guy ('23 Chris Martin), used to getting them out 1-2-3, but the defense is suddenly so bad that you now have to go 1-2-3-4-5 -- just to finish one inning -- then your workload increases 67%... every outing.

fair enough but most on here are saying how great a trade it was for the Sox and other than saving Me Scrooge some $$ that has not been proved yet

Because every time someone mentions Grissom, someone freaks out and overreacts and accuses them of annoying this got as the savior. No one is, but he is part of the future just like those three should be..

Well they’ve been more successful against Dalbec…

Grissom would have been a top 5-7 prospect, for us, had he not been with ATL and recently graduated.

He's done okay in over 220 PAs, and should start out at a defensive level that beats our 2B defense of '23. (I'm not sue this becomes anointing or "annoying," as you put it.)

Grissom has 682 PA's above AA. Those guys combined have zero at the moment.
