When Gio was signed he said he hadn’t drawn much interest from other clubs, so it sounds pretty much like the Red Sox were bidding against themselves.

You still want him to have a contract he’s happy with.

The Sox were the only team in on JD Martinez in 2018, but he still managed a 9-figure deal…

Sign Montgomery and Bauer, which basically equals wjust Montgomery money.

The solution is easy, and the Sox can scream “panic move” when the media stars dredging up Bauer stories.

For less money, they could sign two from Clevinger, German and Lauer. But Clevinger is worse than Bauer and German is not exactly up for sainthood either…

This could be the cover they can use to sign Bauer.

That being said, it won't happen.

So this is the rarest of occasions where the Sox need to use my plan and it just might work.

There is no cover or excuse they could use to sign Bauer.

So… on board with a perfectly healthy (as far as I know) and willing to play for the league minimum Trevor Bauer yet?

Why are you so desperate to sign Bauer? Does character mean nothing to you? Is it really just all about the wins and f*** everything else?

I don’t buy that his horrific finish was necessarily a red flag.

Paxton was worse than Giolito over the last 2 months of 2023. 7.62 ERA to 7.14. Does this mean the Dodgers ignored Paxton’s obvious red flag?

Guess what pitcher had the worst ERA in MLB over the last 2 months of 2023 (20 IP min)? Hint: His name rhymes with Nate Eovaldi. That red flag didn’t stop Mr. Nate from being s postseason hero, did it?

Sure, let's just leave out the IP numbers in the comparisons, why not.

It's not so cut and dried. The world is not so black & white.

The character are concerning and do matter, but so does giving people another chance and realizing we don't know everything that happened and all the nuances that go along with consent.

I'd consider giving him a shot, but it's not an easy decision.

It's likely an easy decision for our FO: hard no.

Oh please. Sure character is important but what do we mean by that? Does that mean any temper tantrum or sign of emotion such as throwing the ball over the CF fence means the player should be blackballed?

As far as we know, he was blackmailed. There’s been no proof of him doing anything wrong in the scandal that got him suspended. Plenty of other players suchas 2024 free agents Mike Clevinger, Julio Urias and Aroldis Chapman have bigger scandals. The difference? Those players confessed, probably because they were guilty, and we as fans and MLB forgave them and moved on. Bauer didn’t confess, and we assumed him guilty, and there goes his reputation. But what if he actually didn’t do anything wrong?

Should the Sox avoid all accused players on the chance they’re guilty? Is this how “character” works?

We know. And that makes him guilty to you.

I’ll admit he seems like an *******. But I bet he has that in common with more players in MLB than we all realize…

If you covered his salary for the year, they still wouldn't sign him.

Probably not. And that’s odd because they’ve been to connected to Clevinger…

If they don't sign somebody, we're looking at a pile more bullpen games and Cora just trying to keep guys' arms' intact this year.

We'd need incredible health luck and career highs in IP by several young and or tweeners slotted as SP'ers, this season, for this not to happen. What a complete cluster ____!

Bello

Pivetta

Crawford

Houck

Whitlock

Winckowski

Criswell, Fitts, Walter, Gambrell, Murphy (Wikelman?)

there is ZERO chance they are signing Snell and maybe 20% that they sign Montgomery. Last place in the AL East in either case.

MLBTR, which means other source(s) have…

LOL, wut?

"however, one name stands out as having not come up in the rumor mill at all to this point in the winter: veteran right-hander Mike Clevinger."

You got a link? I couldn't find anything connecting them.

I heard an interview with McAdams this morning, and he said his opinion was it was only a 10% chance of signing Monty before Gio was injured, and now he believes it’s gone down to 5%. He said Monty wasn’t good enough to take a 500, or below team, and make it a playoff contender, so he didn’t see JH giving the go ahead for Monty.

That's true, but when you are signing a guy like Montgomery, it's hopefully not just for one year of production. Sox would really need his production in 2025 when the young studs are supposedly going to be ready to contribute. Can't always put off the FA signings until next year as the right guys may not be available then.

I agree, and I’ve been saying that for sometime now that you don’t have to wait until you really think that now is the time to go for it to improve the team.

Yes, well done Notin, temper tantrums and throwing the ball over the wall are definitely in the same category as being accused of rape by 4 separate women and literally beating the f*** out of them. Clown.

To answer your last question, yes, if a player is accused of sexual assault and/or battery, especially by multiple women, one of which made her complaint and tried to take out a restraining order a full year before the main story broke, the Red Sox should stay the f*** away, (as the sport should have told Chapman to f*** off and do something else after he beat his partner), unless there is irrefutable evidence a person has been wrongly accused.

I just can't get my head around how yourself and others who are not only fine with signing Bauer but actively want to, are okay with your kids cheering this rancid f*** on, or able to look the women and girls in your lives in the eye?

"I mean sure look ladies, I know there's photographic evidence of literal battery of women, testimony from a rape nurse who in her own words said: 'I had never seen that before,' while describing the amount and colour of bruising around the woman's genitals, but look, one of the women tried to blackmail him and he's pitching to under a 4 ERA while costing only league minimum so..."

That sport is so important to people that they'll put up with anything for wins is bad enough, but watching people flounder to make it about second chances (did he really even do anything wrong?) is insufferable.

True blue, and now neither Snell, or Monty will be ready to start the season now that this has been dragged on so long.
