I'm not sure about the "should" part, but I get it.

Why not count reach on error as getting on base, then? He stepped up and got on base.

I think the goal of OBP and BA and SLG is to pretend it’s all about the hitter.

But then why does getting thrown out at 2b trying to stretch a single into a double count as being on base? You’re not. You’re out…

There will always be gray areas on everything.

In your scenario, the guy did get on base. Din g him for baserunning skills not OB skills.

On Sac bunts: the batter is being told to make an out. Somehow, that should not hurt his OBP, if he did what he was told to do, well. Some hitters are nver asked to bunt sac.

President Sam said this yesterday: "This is a responsibility, a stewardship by John [Henry], Tom [Werner] and Mike [Gordon] to do everything they can to put a winning, great product on the field, and that will continue in 2024 and beyond.”

Can't wait until Andrew Bailey teaches new grips to John, Tom and Mike -- and makes them all 20-game whippers.

He should have said, "starting in 2025 and continuing...," but even that might not be true.

Or "there will come a day" which is what he said about spending big on free agents again...

JH seems to have turned into an WWE character. Gone from hero to a villain, and appears to like playing his newer role.

Yeah, that's not a bad way to put it.

hey but we got the 14th best farm system out of 30 and behind every team in our division except the Blue Jays and have one ONLY 1 of our top prospects being a P.

He’s a repeat of the Anonymous Raw GM character. You never see them, but you hear what is dictated down.

It was 30th out of 30 four years ago.

14th might not excite you, but it is a massive step up…

Plus it's ranked higher by other sources, correct?

It’s due to the paucity of pitching talent. A good year from guys on the farm could bump the rankings up.

Yeah. That type of thing rarely has sources that are exactly. Most people don’t even understand what they are ranking, myself included…

The lack of pitching was why Keith Law was downgrading our system. But this year he bumped us up to #8.

10th wouldn’t be a big shock to me. Mayer lost a year. Bleis lost a year. Yorke fell back. No pitching.

my issue is two-fold. 1] I had been reading that our system was ranked somewhere from 4-6th? and 2} that Henry seems to think that Sox fans will remain content to be in the mushy middle. Never bad enough for a rebuild but never good enough to truly compete.

Henry's front office of agriculture: slash and burn the big league club to build back the farm.

I know, it's so cliche (almost as cliche as cliche).

But maybe in this year's draft, if everything goes just left, the Red Sox can pick high enough to get someone good enough to truly turn their org around -- like a Rutschman... or maybe Holliday, Skenes, etc.

Are we really celebrating the fact that, while the major league club heads for yet another last-place finish, the farm has risen to the level of mediocrity??

I don’t think a single poster or article said 4th to 6th. Why not go back and delete that post.

Or maybe an Anthony or Teel!

Not really seeing any champagne toasts proposed.

Why do Holliday and Skenes get credit for turning their organizations around already? What have these guys done that Teel and Anthony haven’t?

No one has said that. Don’t be the guy who blames the rest of the world for not being as negative as you want them to be…

The thing is, a last place finish in the ALE can be mediocrity, and our farm has consistently been ranked top 10, which most feel is above mediocrity, for what that is worth.

Certainly nothing to celebrate.
