It's a good thing those Sox prospects don't need thought partners to decipher Breslow's terminology. Just in case, I just went on Amazon and ordered each of them Molecular Physics and Elements of Quantum Chemistry : Introduction to Experiments and Theory

Quick book summary: "It covers not only current theoretical approaches but also new developments such as high-resolution two-photon spectroscopy, ultrashort pulse spectroscopy, photoelectron spectroscopy, optical investigation of single molecules in condensed phase, electroluminescence, and light-emitting diodes."

That should cover it.

His first presentation for the Cubs was so detailed that it went over executives heads. My guess is he'll not be providing the communications directly to the players. I'm sure Bailey is up for it.

Wasn't he allegedly told that he had to put it into to laymen terms for these guys and he went right back into the board room and gave the same presentation worded differently and it went great? Supposedly the thing about Breslow is he can play both sides of the equation. He's a smarty, but he's also a ballplayer that understands all the things pros go through with or without the Yalie Jargon.

Yes, he went back to it and nailed it. However, I think he still won't be the main communicator to the players. He has other stuff to do.

Breslow has started his Sox exec career with a splash....not

A record setting contract to a pitcher over $300 million? no POBO on the planet was making that deal without the approval of ownership. Yamamoto didn't sign here because we didn't offer him the most money, Breslow can only offer what Henry approves of.

If you believe he didn't want to come here because of recent track record, that's also on Henry.

I think it should be painstakingly obvoius the problem here is Henry, Breslow can't make something out of nothing. no one can in one year.

A splash of turd water.

He still has time, I'm just not as hopeful.

There was a reason Henry didn't put it on his calendar to meet with Yamamoto. He wasn't making that cash outlay.

Mid-market teams like the Sox don't duke it out with teams like the Yankees, Mets and Dodgers.

I assume they gave their top offer or framework for a top offer, and told him, they will go no higher.

They were never in the picture to begin with.

So, any talk of what we were prepared to offer was yet another lie?

(I'm not doubting it was a lie, but if they did have close to $300M to spend, why don't they still have that much for Monty and 1-2 others?)

We have no idea what they offered Moto.

During the initial meetings, it was requested that they not provide any offers.

I'm sure we'll get the full details on their offer to Moto...

right after we get the full details on their offer to Mookie.

LOL. True.

Pretty sus that there are no reports about them being close to the 300M amount right now. They should be either trying to save face or at least out there showing that they are doing the legwork.

Mookie just denied there was any offer to Yamamoto, but the Betts were rumored to be driving Yama around Mass Ave, looking for mansions...

... that's Massachusetts Avenue, Los Angeles, California.

What does Merloni have to say about it? That's who counts!

@LouMerloni

It’s time to walk the dog in the morning and reassess where the Sox are and what’s the best path. Just telling you now, you’re not going to like it.

Get it straight from the Guvnuh's mouth... If ownership won't pay for 10 years of Yamamoto, there's no way they'd pay for 7 years of a lesser pitcher in Snell or Montgomery.

He almost always makes sense.

It's the same thing that Mazz suggested yesterday. I don't know if it's groupthink or just them having a good read on ownership by now.

I've said all along that Monty was going to get overpaid. I've said all along that Snell wasn't my type of pitcher. I could see them going for Monty because he seems like he could at least be a workhorse to give you high quality innings, but that's something you can get a little more cheaply. Makes sense that they would potentially skip past these two.

I think they need to sign somebody soon to at least calm the mood down or at least make certain that their targets aren't getting away now. Focus on their two guys and go get them.

Who would "calm the mood?"

If it's not Monty or Snell, we should just admit we are punting and act accordingly. (Won't happen- I know.)

I just can't fathom them actually believing they can keep the sham going in perpetuity.

We certainly have some dumb fans, but 5 years in a row should get through the thickest of skulls.

That was DD ‘s style. It wasn’t Bloom’s style. He was always looking for bargains and ended up with an empty shopping basket. Let’s hope Breslow isn’t bargain hunting. We could have gotten this kind of performance from Bloom.

Or DD, if the checkbook was locked away.

What did DD do after 2018, when the winter budget was low, and it seemed trades of prospects was not allowed?

Signed Eovaldi and Pearce.

But that was a team that had won 108 games and was only losing Kimbrel and Kelly, and was also going to be over the tax threshold for the second year.

A little different from what we're seeing right now.

Extended them. Extended Sale & Bogey.

Added nobody new. Subtracted our two best RP'ers and did not even try to replace them- not even by trade.

To me, this whole path we are on began right after those extensions, which were just treading water and not for improvement.
