The teams are not equal in value. It's not a level playing field. That's just reality.

So, every owner of every business should pay their emplOyees based on how much more or less their company makes than others?

In some ways, that makes some sense, in a general way, but only a true Socialist would demand it and say the workers are entitled to it.

I have no issues with any MLB team expecting more financial efforts from their owners, and agree that higher revenue teams should have higher expectations.

I'm not on board with those who want to dump JH, after being a top 3-5 spender over 21 years, because he is spending the same or more than all but 2 of the last 21 years, now. I do not think we should feel entitled to this.

Entitled is not the same as expecting it. Complain all we want. Maybe it will work.

Again, my point is not about expecting or not expecting JH to spend more, because we make more and the team is valued more than many teams. My point is, every MLB team has fans that expect, could expect or should expect more spending fromt ehir owners.

And, I see a distinction between expecting it and feeling entitled to it, or start demanding a new owner, despite being one of MLB's biggest spenders in the last 21 years. Despite just extending Devers.

Yes moon, we are just piggies and we only deserve our 78-84 slop. Thank you.

I get that. Nobody is entitled to any rich guy's money. You can expect a better product than what you are paying for. No doubt. No disagreement from me.

We aren't entitled to it, and more than 25 other teams, and if 25 teams' owners all did what their fans expected and spent $100M more, we'd gain on nobody,

Wanting to win and doing what it takes to win as you know are two very dramatically different concepts. Henry in the past not only has wanted to win but he has financed the efforts that enabled his team to win. Personally, I'm a fan and have been since 1955. I don't really feel entitled to anything - lifes been good. Also, I do not care at all about how fans of other teams might feel. And yes I do understand the points that you have been making. Have to say, I have been missing a time when this franchise stood at the top of the food chain. It's still a little early to abandon all hope for sure but I'll be watching reruns of the "Big Bang theory" when the games begin if there isn't just a little more life breathed in to this franchise going forward. That doesn't mean I'm abandoning my fan card, it just means that I don't find them particularly entertaining to watch.

Even more so now it’s not a level playing field. Of course you still have to make good choices. Money didn’t get the Mets, or Padres anywhere last year, and it took a couple of years for the Rangers to cash in.

You said this- not me.

I'm not even close to feeling that way.

Well said.

I certainly think losing teams are less entertaining, but I do still enjoy watching the Sox and look forward to seeing if our top "suspects" come through in the coming years.

I think this is overcomplicating things.

Boston is a big market with fans who support it - and put more $$ into that than any other fans in the game. They want the Red Sox to act like a big market team. The team was slightly above league average spend this year - and have been particularly cheap in the area that the team is most deficient (pitching). Now there is plenty of time in this FA season - and still a lot of good pitchers left, so this can all change. But it is 3 seasons in a row, the team has not been pro-active in improving the team.

Fans - given the Red Sox resources (basically as good as anybody not named the Dodgers), this team should always be in the mix, and right now this would be the 2nd straight season where that is not the case.

Like, if JH spends more, it's less money in his pocket, right?

You know it's not that simple. There's a point where not spending will hurt the team's value.

I have said over and over, I agree with this. I want us to spend more. I think we should spend more, since we charge more and make more than a few teams spending more than us.

I will not be happy, if JH turtles, again, this winter. That being said, I don't feel entitled to it. JH has spent a ton and is a businessman. I get that we are the ones paying. We are his customers and his revenue stream. That does not change how I feel.

Maybe we all see the word "entitled" as having different meanings or connotations. At this point, I've said what I think. I'm done with this.

No doubt, and some teams have to win or give the impression they can win to keep viewership and ticket sales from falling and affecting the bottom line.

Do you think, if the Pirates spent $100M more, this winter, they'd recoup that in increased revenue, assuming the spending worked and they made the playoffs in '24?

I'm sure it is different for every city and fanbase.

We know you have another 10,000 words in you. You can do it champ. Tell us piggies what terrible baseball we deserve.

I'm not into pointing fingers, like most Americans these days -- unless it's straight up.

Fans have slogged through a stark difference in Red Sox' offseasons the past half decade. Dombrowski was declarative, deliberate and decisive -- though his pursuit of star power wasn't really that much different than previous Sox GMs. But since Dombro left, there has been a significant change in the type of ballplayers recruited to the big league roster -- and that includes inferior "replacements" for the All-Stars that Boston chose to not keep longterm.

Moon says it started with Kimbrel/Kelly, but it was really evident with Mookie -- and I don't mean the Sox had to immediately go find another Hall of Famer -- but not even an offer to the best OF available: Springer from Connecticut (in retro, Jason Bay wasn't a bad return for Manny; his WAR in his only full Boston year was higher than any of Ramirez' rest of his career)?

The approach from the front office -- most of whom have been around forever -- has been altered, and so has fan expectations... and not in a good way. If it's just a phase ownership is going through, it's been five years now.

So, that means we have to spend more than everyone else?

The Dodgers make a mint off their TV deal, does that count?

Other teams have larger stadiums with more seats.

Look, I'm not arguing we don't have reasons to spend more, or that JH should not. My point is about a general sense of entitlement.

We've been a top of top 3-5 spending team for much of the last 2 decades or longer, and few teams pass us to knock us down to #12th or 14th, and we expect JH to join the lunacy, or he has to go.

Just remember, we're lunatics for wanting the Red Sox to be in the top 10 or higher in payroll apparently. God forbid they get in sniffing distance of the CBT again.

I'm all for going $19.9M over the tax line in '24.... more if they have the balls.

Breslow is about to become Bloom 2.0 and probably worse.

He might, but it's way too early to know this.

Besides, it's about JH not the GM, when it comes to spending amounts.

Still need to be able to spend it on the right players and acquire talent in other means. Other teams compete with much smaller budgets.

Agreed. He could do better with similar budgets as Bloom, but it's "up to JH on the spending amounts."

I see no evidence that Brez is repeating what Bloom did. His only moves have been somewhat minor:

O'Neill (comp to Duvall?)

3 pitchers for Dugo (This is not the same as trading 3 years of Beni for Wink, Gambrell and Franchy)

Urias for Campbell (no easy Bloom comp)
