Does this mean you don’t want to friend me on MySpace?

LOL.

It's funny how things like that are all but forgotten, now.

In the "you can't make this s*** up" department, on the same day the Sox miss out on another starting pitcher, they promote a guy named Paul Toboni to be yet another assistant general manager.

They now have 4 f***ing assistant general managers.

You really can't make this up.

The solution to too many talking heads is to add another one to make it an odd number, so they can stop having tie votes that have been paralyzing their decision-making process.

LOL yes, that explanation makes as much sense as any. They finally got really tired of all the tie votes! Now things are gonna get rolling full throttle at last.

Brez said if one of them helps him make a good trade, that exec can then go work for another team. But if it's a bad trade, the Asst. GM has to stay in the Red Sox front office for at least another offseason.

Some guy in the Boston Globe comments section wondered if Breslow himself has an opt-out in his contract. Silly but I had to smile.

This is actually not as uncommon as one may think. A lot of organizations of multiple assistant GM's or haven't invented other titles in an attempt to retain talent. Tobon seems like one of the good guys, and they may want to hold onto him as long as they can and prevent him from being pluked by another organization.

Somebody needs to explain to me what possible purpose is served by having 4 assistant GM's.

you have zero clue what duties come with that title, and I don't mean that as an insult, I don't either and probably nobody does in here. It's literally just a title with more pay so he doesn't leave.

It seems highly plausible that he's going to be serving the team in a similiar fashion he is now. I don't think having 4 assistant GM's means 4 guys are splitting the work of one position. We don't know how those positions are defined.

"A guy named Paul Toboni..." C'mon now.

He was the VP of Amateur Scouting and Player Development and one of the good cogs in the org. If anyone deserved a bump it was him.

OK, I shouldn't have dissed Toboni.

But this just feeds the impressions that the Sox have gotten bloated in the front office and Breslow doesn't have much control and that it's no wonder so few were interested in Breslow's job...

And that it might have something to do with the ongoing suckitude we're seeing.

The worst part is, there is no GM to be an assistant to.

I guess each could be in charge of a separate task or set of tasks.

I hope not all of them need to come to consensus to get anything major done.

So, who takes Toboni's place?

Did not the MIA director of player development get let go, recently?

Every front office is bloated nowadays. The good ones and the bad ones, so having multiple assistant GM's certainly has no correlation with the success or failures of the team. There's just nothing to really complain about here, again, this is happening all over baseball.

You just have to wonder if this is where all the apparent dithering is coming from. Maybe it wasn't just Bloom. Maybe Breslow is being put in the same position.

It's happening everywhere so it can't be bad. You're entitled to think that, Hugh. I'm entitled not to buy into it.

I don't think it, I know it. It's happening all over baseball. Read up on some of the other front offices. Read above ^^^^

Quite a few reports came out that Bloom would question himself over and over. The last two trade deadliness (which he totally screwed up) seem to back this up. Breslow in trading Duggie and Sale seems to have far more decisiveness, but it's too early to judge for sure yet.

Personally, if it was me in the highchair, I'd want as many smart people around me as possible (within reason) feeding me information and perspectives.

Bloom definitely has his dithering moments. But clearly h he was given limited time to maneuver. Breslow appears to be in the same boat…
