Can we really count on Mayer?

His defense looks more than fine.

I think he is our #1 trade bait, this winter.

Anthony is scary as hell.

Teel isn't going anywhere.

Bleis is too far away for a team to give much up for him.

Rafaela will not bring back a top pitcher by himself, or even packaged with Yorke or Perales (our next highest ranked prospects.)

Just my current take.

Cassas, verdugo, yoshida and Duran are our best trade major league trade chips.

Yoshida and verdugo to Miami for Cabrera?

Posted
He's a .230 lifetime hitter. Yup. Fits right in.

Batting average is such a useful tell-all stat.

That’s why no one wants Kyle Schwarber back…

Is Yoshida really a valuable trade chip?

Any interest in Ames Rosario at short and story at 2nd????

Or…

See if Javier Baez Ops out and sign him. He checks all the boxes.

Right-handed bat? Check.

Hit for power? Check.

Good middle infield defense? Check.

Walked away from 4 yrs $90mill to obviously get more money? Che.. wait a second…

Cabrera reminds me of DHern, too much.

MIA does not want Yoshida, unless we may near half his deal.

They don't want 1 year of Dugo for many years or EC.

They might take Duran + for him.

Cabrera is a ton of potential that just never seems to amount to anything. I would have dealt Turner for him, but I would be hesitant to deal Duran..

BTV really loses some cred by having Yoshida at +$12.6M value.

I don’t think they have done updates in a while.

He is getting $18 mil so not quite worth his contract value, if you take their word as accurate, which I don't think you do.

I like BTV and think they do a good job, for the most part. I don't agree with every valuation, and I think they are way off on Yoshida.

I think he's more like -$5-10M in value.

I think the sox make a hard push for Aaron Nola and Jordan Montgomery. Nola would take on the ace role. Bello would push to #2. Sale would slot into #4 with Montgomery in the #3 role. Crawford and Pivetta can battle it out for the 5 slot allowing the other to be much needed depth for when Sale goes down. That rotation would immediately take the pressure off the pen and allow it to shine with Winck, Whitlock, Houck, Bernardino and Jansen handling the most high leverage innings. Then I would have a close eye on Tim Anderson, who very well may have his option declined. Try him in a friendly park in a better lineup and see if a pillow contract would be good.

You didn't mention our best returning pen arm: Martin.

We also have Schreiber, Kelly and a few others that may shine in '24.

Right idea. Unsure of the names.

A lot will depend on:

1. Who is making those calls?

2. How much they have to spend?

You can state all you want about Nola, but if the new guy doesn’t like signing players with qualifying offers, he may pivot to Yamamoto or Bauer over Nola or Snell, for example…

Will anyone else have no QO?

That was a joke, right? Baez doesn't hit for average, only hit total of 26 homers the last two years, 45 errors last two years and strikes out a lot. Plus he wants over 20 million a year. No thanks.

Baez is still a decent fileder. He was +9 OAA over the past 2 seasons, but no. I agree: pass.

He had one surge in offense, years ago. That was it.

Yes it was a joke. Didn’t you finish reading it?

I like when Baez swings at sliders beyond the LH batter's box. Good player!

He’sa good player with some hitting discipline issues. Overall him and Story would form an interesting duo up the middle, combining for 40 HRs and 400 strikeouts.

But at least give some seriously slick defense…

Chapman at third, make it 60 HR and 600 strikeouts and wicked good infield defense. Have some fun!
