I always like the cheese wurst at Comiskey/US Cellular/Guaranteed Rate Field. As semi-edible space age polymers go, it’s among the top ten…

It's a dessert, so they are free to run wild.

Bonuses if there’s deferred money or not.

2 years!

Good job, BorA$$!

Not much of a gamble for any team. If the deal does not have a no-trade clause, he could be easily traded, if healthy.

Didn't he turn down 150/6 from the Yankees?

This might be conjecture, but I feel Montgomery might not get another chance at a payday like Snell might if he performs and opts out. If there's something out there in the 90-95/5 range I wonder if he just takes out, maybe the contract can have some vesting options at the tail end of it to get him in the 140-145 range if he performs which would be close to his original asking price.

I don't think the Sox should up their anti, if anything they should be more reserved going after these big guys on this current team, but I'd still sign him for whatever deal you were willing to sign him to prior. You have your evaluations, and if you have some faith in them and some conviction.....just go do that.

I still think Monty does not get over 4 years and will likely get 3- maybe with a 4th yr option and buyout.

To me, Monty should be good in all 3 years, and would be helpful to a contending team in 2025 and 2026, while helping make this year's team a lot better. If things go right, he could be the difference maker in '24.

And they already blew the draft pick on Chapman. Better of stockpiling those missing picks in one year than losing multiple first rounders…

If Montgomery gets only 4 years, he should fire Boras…

He's not getting the 7 years he's floating to the media.

I'll bet he doesn't get 5+.

I doubt he gets 4 with a 5th year team option.

That’s a huge letdown for a postseason hero without a qualifying offer.

I guess the trick this year to making lots of money was play in Japan…

Something was up with the Boras client freeze-out.

Boras held out for too much? Misread the market? The teams he thought were going to pay up don't want to pay big money this year like Henry?

Many players got less or way less than what they wanted, or what "experts" projected.

Snell is one case.

This winter has shown that most teams are spending less on free agency. MLBTR reported "...an offseason that has seen a billion-dollar decrease in spending by major league teams..."

Snell can come back to free agency shortly without a qualifying; Montgomery still has that option looming…

Yeah, but all 4 of his big clients getting stiffed like this has to make you wonder.

I'm no Boras fan but it wouldn't surprise me if there was a back room agreement among the owners. I suspect the same about Bauer, Urias and Clevinger not getting signed.

Personally I'm hating all these contracts with one year opt-outs. The opt-outs are becoming the story.

A one billion dollar decrease also means about 25% of what was spent on last year. And about 33% of what was spent this year went to Ohtani and Yamamoto and was spent by one team.

This might just be one year, but the market also might speaking very loudly. I seriously doubt the players make up that billion solely with the deals for Montgomery and Clevinger…

Would anyone really be shocked if there's some collusion going on? If owners have collectively decided to put the brakes on?

The Boras clients were all flawed FA's that were expecting way too much this offseason. Bauer didn't have a contract last year. It's not surprising Urias is unsigned at all. Clevinger?

Other unsigned pitchers:

Lorenzen

Greinke

Hill

Syndergaard

The Dodgers, Phillies, Royals, Giants kept spending. When the Red Sox are outspent by the Pirates, it's a problem with a particular team and not collusion.

If the Yankees offer to Snell 5 yrs/$150M was real, and turned down that’s all on BorASS.

It seemed like he believed the Red Sox, Yankees or Mets would come around and bail him out at the end again. It just didn't happen.
