He’s high end compared to all the others they got, but he’s still got some improvement to do.

Day games: 951 OPS (145 tOPS+)

Night games: 694 OPS (79 tOPS+)

Not only no, but He’ll no!

A firm no, is okay with me, but I certainly feel better about him than I did, last winter.

His D is still subpar, but he went from horrific to near average in LF and just plain bad in CF. That encouraged me more than two hot months on O.

I'd say it's interesting that Sam Kennedy mentioned Wilyer Abreu second to Bello on his list of young players to lock up. Maybe it's a reflection of the org's opinion of Abreu -- or maybe it's an indictment of Sam's baseball expertise.

The kid has played 28 games in the majors and hit .316 -- what does the board's small sample size of small sample sizers say about that?

In Fred Lynn's debut in the last month of 1974, he batted .419... and nobody told the press they needed to lock him up longterm. Or even after he won Rookie of the Year/MVP the next season.

Oh yeah... Reserve Clause.

They should have.

No doubt he improved last year compared to the previous year, but he had nowhere else to go, but up. He had some good flourishes, but he had tailed off big time the month before he got hurt. I would have to see more, before I’d pencil him in, or especially lock him up.

I'm sort of okay thinking we can start the year with a Duran-Refsnyder platoon in LF. His bat should be fine as a platoon. If it doesn't work, Yoshida can play more LF.

I'm sort of okay thinking we can start the year with a Rafaela-Abreu platoon in CF, but I'd like to add someone like Duvall as insurance and as our new FT RF'er. (Trade Dugo.)

It's a risk, but we have to choose some areas where we just "have faith" in what we got, and use as many resources as possible to fix the rotation.

Maybe they also have determined they want to lock up Abreu at very cheap dollars for a few years? IDK. I don't think Sam is a baseball guy.

I also question whether Bello has done enough to show that he's high-end.

That's why you lock him up now, he's not going to cost a lot of money, that's the risk that gets spread out between both sides. You can lock him up dirt cheap, throw a few million at him and buy out a couple years past his arby

Right now Cora is the baseball guy.

He's the "baseball guy," who says he's not quite ready to be "the baseball guy."

No, he's not ready to be a MANAGEMENT guy. That's what Chaim's job was. The CBO needs to manage the organization and all the people below him. It's much less about baseball than the GM position.

@BOSSportsGordo

Red Sox projected salary arbitration numbers (via @mlbtraderumors):

Nick Pivetta: $6.9M

Alex Verdugo: $9.2M

Luis Urias: $4.7M

Reese McGuire: $1.7M

John Schreiber: $1.3M

The Urias amount is high. The others seem fine IMO. Verdugo's is small enough to deal away.

It seems that Cora managed Bloom, and that’s why Bloom got the boot.

After the way Dugy tailed off the second half of the year, and having 1 yr left to FA I’m not sure he’ll be in to much of a demand.

You think Cora told Bloom who to sign? If so, Cora is the one who should have been fired.

No, but Cora seems to be the one in power now, and Bloom is out. I don’t think Bloom gave Cora the help he wanted.

Posted
Cora has more power now, and I think he had something to do with Bloom being gone.

Maybe based on talking to them and observing them over the last few years ownership decided Cora knows more about baseball and team construction than Bloom does. Could be as simple as that.

Because of what Bloom didn't do -- and the excuse he gave -- at the deadline, he became a joke.

Varitek gave Cora an Underdog t-shirt, and AC openly wore it in the clubhouse, and even on TV interviews.

When employees openly mock upper management, it's time for changes.

Bloom was fired because he was a joke. Literally.

Agreed, and I still don't know how Cora "managed" Bloom.

One of the advantages to that lefty heavy lineup is it challenges bullpens.

Cool, bring out your lefty reliever for an inning and burn him up. Good luck getting Verdugo, Duran, and Yoshida out, now you need a new reliever in the next inning to face Ohtani, Devers, and Casas.

Very simple. I think he had a say, and a hand in Bloom getting fired.

Duran, NOshida, and Dugy a far from a murders row.

Bad part was the joke was on us, and the rest of RSN.

Somehow, our OF finished 5th in OPS and 12th in fWAR.

In 2022, the OF finished 27th in fWAR and 24th in OPS.
