.938 OPS with 6 HRs in 23 games in Worcester. I expect him to struggle in MLB, but he is making a strong case for himself right now…

it is a good run - but 2 walks in 97 PAs is not great

Yorke could also be moved to OF or at worst, DH.

It’s too early to worry about 2025 logjams.

We used to be worried about crossing the "bridge year". Now the river of skilled prospects is flowing deep. By 2025 ST this team may be seeing some strong internal competition for positions. As long as that includes starting pitching from young healthy guys , the Sox may escape the loop of worst to first back to worst every other year.

Bloom's roster finally seems cohesive and alive led by J. Turner , a needed vet amongst the young guys. Bloom also (finally) got lucky that Duran self determined to play the game right, and Casas has become an aggressive hitter. Bello shows talent that can be upgraded even further. The retreads and deadwoods of the IL league are fading away and will all be gone by 2025.

I would keep the "Fire Bloom" thread alive, not to advocate it's literal meaning but to be a reminder of what it looks like when our team has no depth or serious MiLB prospects . Also , a soft spot for Ol' Blake Swihart and his ghost ! Blake being only one of several prematurely detonated Sox prospects over the past 10 years.

i will accept that argument but still don't think it was wise to waste a high first rd pick like that
You take the player you want when you know he’s available. If Bloom had a second round pick that year, he might have waited to see if Yorke fell that far. But apparently he was fairly confident Yorke wouldn’t make it to round 3…

Waste?

He was BA#31 last year. Not every top pick gets ranked..

i believe Sorry is signed for 3 more years after this one

I know the years and money on his contract. Do they never move contracts who don't fit the team or are a sunk cost? Because David Price sends his regards.

You absolutely don't know what you're talking about.

Edgar Renteria as well…

Sure glad that the Angels decided to hold on to Ohtani and add some real studs to help him and the team get to the playoffs. Err, too bad about that trip to Toronto where they lose again today. Ohtani will have a nice Fall back in Nippon, considering his multi-hundred million dollar offers.

Scherzer to TEX.

Another pre-deadline day trade.

Yes, some CBO's make major acquisitions well before the deadline.

Bloom is not one of them.

At the 2021 deadline, Bloom's pitching acquisitions were Robles and Davis. As I recall we didn't find out he'd acquired them until about an hour after the deadline.

The fun thing with Story is that is has largely been injuries. Last year was a disappointment to a degree - but there were enough flashes of the player the Sox thought they were getting to feel okay.

One thing to remember is that the 2020 draft was the pandemic draft. It was only 5 rounds, and we were dealing with most of the high school seasons and spring showcases being severely effected or scuttled altogether. Lots of the top high school talent went to college (see the strength of this year's draft crop per evaluators). Even in normal years, picks will appear by the end of Round 1 who do not appear in public-facing Top 100 lists. Teams have way more scouts working than The Athletic or MLB.com. In 2020/21, the public had even less information than normal.

Yorke was an out there pick on paper - but in a year like 2020, there was far more limited information for the public to say whether a pick "made sense" in general.

I believe it's 4.

I am concerned certainly, particularly with age. But Story was on pace for a 4 win season last year. Crawford was one of the worst regulars in the league in 2011. It's not the same thing.

Agreed. But I for one am still concerned as heck about Story's elbow.

We needed pen help, then, and he got it. We need rotation help, now, so...

I'd have played him at 2B and kept Chang at SS. Re-evaluate in the off season, if you must.

I don't disagree. But Chang could have made that decision a bit easier.

To me:

Chang at SS > Arroyo at 2B

Chang is a better defender than Arroyo, and playing Chang at SS and Story at 2B improves the D at 2 key positions.

Saving Story's arm is another reason.

PH'ing for Chang is always an in game option.

Hey! Half his hits are XBHs. 5 of his 14 hits are HRs!

Project his numbers to 650 PAs:

35 HRs

119 RBIs

To hell with the .163 BA and .209 OBP!

LOL

Max Scherzer agreed not to exercise his opt out after 2023 (doubt he would have at $43M).

Texans and the Mets basically splitting the $43M for 2024 season. A good deal for both teams.

Trevor Story's contract.

He is signed through 2027, thus he has 4 years remaining.

There is a club option for $25M for 2028 with a $5M buyout.

Trevor can opt out after 2025 BUT SOX CAN NEGATE THAT BY PICKING UP THE 2028 CLUB OPTION. Got it? Never seen this type of a contract before.

Basically he's here until 2027, and maybe through 2028, unless he's traded. He does get his 10 years of major league service in after the 2025 season. My head is spinning.

Not sure the urgency to move Trevor to short. Unless Sox are planning to play Turner at 2B more than once a week.

I get it that you don't want to shuffle Trevor from 2B to SS every other game.....but I sure would want to protect his arm. We have a big investment in this guy. He needs to be on the field and not in the dugout.
