Actually it is more of functioning of positioning

And when he’s positioned on the Injured List for 70 games?

So… you’re observation that he was mediocre was based on using cumulative stats from a season in which he played 93 games?

How many innings did Kike play at center in 2021 , 716 How many innings did he play in center in 22 , 669. Hardly a statistical significant difference to say that his 22 DRS are any less valid.

More to the point is how many games will he be on the injured list in 2023.

At the risk of being called a cherry-picker, how about career?

46 OF'ers have 2400+ innings in CF since Kike entered MLB.

He ranks...

10th in UZR/150 at 7.8 (JBJ is 11th at 6.6) top 25%

18th in DRS with 21 top 40%

DRS/innings: I figure he passes 17. Straw, 12. Pillar, & 13. L Martin to place 15th (Top 1/3)

A different point, but way more meritorious.

My congrats to you who voted the Sox will have a winning record. Me, I'm gutless.

It's very difficult to project such a hodgepodge team. But if the pitching/defense is as bad as it was the last few weeks of ST and yesterday, look out below.

One thing that's easy to say: they are who they are. Cora gave up early by waving the white flags -- Braiser and Ort. Verdugo had some good hits, but was his old self on the bases (didn't take third on a throw to first). Duvall roped a hanger off the wall, but struckout twice on pitcher's pitches. Devers dumped a curve into left when he wanted to, but with the game on the line swung from the heels and missed three pitches in a row.

Raffy also didn't deserve his first called violation K while standing in the box, glancing at the pitcher who wasn't ready, then looking down to take a breath. It was right after he bombed an oppo blast that just missed the foul pole, and right before the Sox mounted a belated comeback rally...

Just better hope this is not who they are on the mound: nine walks, and five stolen bases without a catcher throw -- with no pick-off attempts or even step-offs. With 32 employees in the analytics department, is it too much for fans to hope that just one of them would have the club better prepared?

And it was kind of funny to hear Cora lament that the team was so much sharper in ST games, considering that they allowed 65 runs in the last 10 ST games.

The arms the Red Sox threw out there yesterday are pretty much minor league for the most part. I hope Sale enjoyed his day off yesterday, and now feels more comfortable to pitch.

Misery loves company I suppose, but I find joy in the hilarity of people giving up after one game. ONE, Uno, Un, Ett, Um, Odin, Moja!!!!

I'm usually like that too. But grave doubts about Bloom's approach have entered my mind and refuse to leave. This was supposed to be a make or break offseason for him, and I'm not sure he actually did anything to improve the team. With one notable exception in Yoshida.

Who is giving up?Most of the arms that threw yesterday are minor league, and the fact that a few namely Ort, and the Bra Man, and maybe Kelley shouldn’t even still be on the team gives very few any reason for hope.

But things are going to be AWESOME. Some have bought into what Bloom is cooking up, but ALOT has not.

The defense was whatever, it was really just the overwhelming amount of walks that did them in. After an offseason of Bloom going out of his way to limit walks, that was just embarrassing.

Brasier and Ort were early projections for most DFA lists. Maybe they were right?

Kelly should be the last man in the bullpen. Due to the injuries at the start of the season, he's going to play a larger role the first few weeks.

I expect when Bello and Whitlock come back we see the end of Ort and the bullpen gets a lot better. The good news is we are going to get them both back very soon, the fear is other injuries happen....which can happen. Hopefully this team has better luck on the injury front this season. My anxiety will be high with every cringe on the field.

The pitching was bad. I liked the fight the offense put up. The Sox weren't going to go 162-0.

Fans aren't giving up -- even when the front office supplies the pitching staff with usual suspects that the manager feels he has to use, while trying to save better arms for relieving other brittle starters in games that might look more winnable.

But it isn't hard to see how hard those concepts are to be encouraged about after Day 1.

It is not misery nor giving up after a single game. The Sox will win at least 70, and maybe up to 90. It is watching poorly executed baseball in all 3 categories plus lack of a running game , that as mentioned above extends back to the last two weeks of ST and through yesterday. Cora's teams, IMO, are never quite mentally ready to consistently play at a smart level.

Having said that you can point to 2021's start with the 3 games lost to the same O's for encouragement. Trouble is trash ball like we saw should'nt be the standard we bring to a season opener. The hometown edge was quickly wasted with plenty of booing.

What 3 categories? The offense scored 9 runs.

The first game of the year always seems to be more important than it really is. Whether by chance or by design , MLB has given the Sox a pretty soft schedule to start the season. The Pirates and Tigers are among the weakest in MLB. The Sox should be in good shape after the coming week . Last season , competing against the good teams was the problem. Have to do better in that area this year.

Certainly, one game can't change much, but I can see wht there is much concern.

BTW, some one game numbers look decent to good for Bloom:

2-4 Yoshida w HBP & RBI

2-4 Turner w BB & RBI

1-4 Duvall w 2B, HBP & RBI

That's 5-12 and OB 8 for 15 for his 3 big offensive additions.

Let's see what time tells us.

Just as you ask "who has given up," I ask, "who said things would be AWESOME?"
