On paper it's an 84 win team. I think the good vibes in the clubhouse get them another 4 wins and slightly overachieve.

88 - 80

Did you look at the issues most others have?

The great, and objective John Tomase said it this way. This Red Sox team is the least talented team in the JH era to start off the season.I don’t think anyone predicted what happened in 2021, nor what happened last year, so I’m not predicting at all. I will say that a lot of things will have to go right for this team to be anything like 2021 starting with good health of the starting staff.

Fortunately, Tomase is the least talented baseball writer in any era. :D

If he’s so Great and Objective, why can’t he remember 2020?

I just thought the same exact thing. You literally only have to go back 3 years to find a worse team.

I can see Tomases point of view if you.

Don't beleive in Casas

Don't believe in Bello

Dont' believe in Yoshida

Believe the Red Sox will have an insane amount of injuries again. Yes, injuries will happen, but the Sox had an absurd amount of guys on the DL last year.

If you believe all that, and there's nothing wrong with it, you're definitely a cup-half-empty kind of guy assuming the worst-case scenario. I certainly think it's possible this team sucks, but I think they have the capacity to be really good and that's my problem with Tomases writing. From a pure talent point of view, it's just insanely wrong.

You misinterpreted. He said the least talented team to start the season, and not the finished product. Raffy, Bogey, JD, Vaz, JBJ, Benny, Dugy were some talent. Remember JD lost his binky iPad, and couldn’t hit.

Also remember the starting pitchers for games 3,4 and 5 in 2020 were Ryan Weber, Josh Osich and Matt Hall.

Game, set and match…

The rotation on Opening Day was:

1. Eovaldi

2. Martin Perez

3. Ryan Weber

4. Josh Osich

5. Matt Hall

The bullpen featured Austin Brice, Robert Stock, and Kyle Hart.

By season’s end, many of us thought Chris Mazza might be good. He wasn’t good. He also wasn’t Zack Godley, so we thought he might be…

No doubt the pitching sucked, but the lineup had talent.

The lineup has talent this year too. Not 2020 levels but if Duvall is healthy, Casas and Yoshida are the real deal (looks good so far) and Turner doesn't fall off a cliff this lineup is going to be pretty good. Id' throw Mondesi in there but he has almost no history of staying healthy.

an X factor here might also be Reese McGuire. He could have a break out year this year. Or not. Either way his defense will be an upgrade.

McGuire is the poster boy for hodgepodge teams.

Maybe, maybe not. That's why I said he's an X-factor. This could be a break out year for him.

The development for the catcher is slower (especially on offense) than any other position in baseball. At this point in their careers, Reese actually has a higher offense output than Christain Vazuez has had with what is now better defense.

It's not my first bet, or a sure thing by any chance, but he could end up surprising a lot of people this year.

2020 does not count?

Not as much, even if ERod and Sale were healthy, which they weren't to "start the season" or all season.

New season with a lot of new players, I'm just hoping for decent baseball not little league play, maybe we can get to 500 and stay out of the cellar, every team has major injuries but they work around it. Good luck to the Red Sox and let's not be embarrassed.

We’ve already established that the pitching on the 2020 team sucked, but the lineup to start the season, which was the main point had plenty of talent.
