Well for sure Devers CAN NOT play 3B.
They can't Nationals pitching even though it's ranked near the bottom of all 30 MLB staffs--28th in ERA and 27th in WHIP. And let's not forget that, in addition to weak hitting, their defense also sucks.

He keeps showing flashes, some got longer and longer that kept giving me hope he could turn around his D, but then he keeps F'ing up.

There are other positions on the team with worse D, but I agree. He can't play 3B.

Since Casas is a poor defender at 1B, it seems like an easy choice.

If I'm John Henry and watch any of these games, I'm giving serious thought to firing both Cora and Bloom at the end of the season. All those injuries were a great excuse, but now everybody except Houck, is back, and they can't seem to beat anybody.

Things are bad if you are seriously thinking about cutting bait on Bloom and Cora.

A couple wins vs the Yanks will turn him around.

I try really hard to never let one game form a lasting opinion on a baseball team, but today is really pushing me hard.

Of course, it's not really just this game. We've seen the pattern, all year long.

There is, however, another competing pattern that has been going on all season, and that is whenever most of us start giving up on the team, they bounce back and get our hopes back up.

Another pattern is us beating good teams more than we do bad teams, so I'm holding onto slivers of hopes. Just about every team we face, going forward is a winning team, and or someone we need to pass to make the playoffs. It seems near impossible to think we can win almost every series going forward, but who knows?

Start by winning 2 or 3 vs NYY and LAD.

Tale 4 of 7 vs HOU and we go to KCR on an 8-5 stretch (and 14-9,) which doesn't look all that great, but it also means HOU and NYY lost some games. (16-10 after KCR)

Then, the real crucial stretch begins...

3 @ TBR (2-1)

3 v BAL (2-1)

The SEP 15th series at TOR could be the big chance, but we need to get closer by then.

4 v NYY (3-1) 23-13 in 36 gms

Keep dreaming Moonslav but as John Lennon once sang--"The dream is over-what can I say? I was the dream weaver but now I'm reborn..."

How many ups and downs have you had, this season?

Is there no more room for another up or two?

It's been our pattern, all year. I don't see suggesting we hold to our pattern as dreaming.

Everyone including Bloom kept waiting for the three injured pitchers to come back, and now they are here, but at what % efficiency? Sale was rushed back, and at the moment is nothing, but an over priced opener. Normally he would have gotten more rehab starts in so he could go more than 3-4 innings, but not this time. Same with Whit who was rushed who looked good one time, and looked like he was throwing batting practice the next. Who knows what Houck will look like? Of course the Red Sox didn’t need any starters when the 3 were out, because they had Bernadino to open. Minor league operation, from a minor league HOBO.

He couldn't have had more rehab starts per MLB rules. He could only stay in AAA for 20 days. His first appearance was Aug 1, his last was Aug 17.

Have to give him credit for the accurate Lennon quote, though.

I prefer:

Now you know how happy I can be

Oh, and our good time starts and end

Without dollar one to spend

But how much, baby, do we really need?

Cheer up, Sleepy Jean, oh, what can it mean

To a daydream believer and a homecoming queen?

The best Beatles song, even better than Piggies, Band on the Run, and Wild Honey Pie.

An over priced opener is what he is right now.How many rehab starts did he have last time compared to this time?

You said they rushed him back and he needed more rehab starts. They couldn't legally give him more starts or move him any slower!

He's still better as an opener than than keeping Jacques on the 26. I'm fine with him ramping up from 3-4 innings to 5 or 6 by September.

It would have been a waste rehabbing him longer in AAA as Jacques and the revolving door of misfit pen arms were handing games away.

BTW, the term "opener" is usually reserved for pitchers who start and go only 1-2 innings. (IMO)

Get technical on what an opener is all you want, but the main point is a regular starter in mid season form, that should have been obtained weeks ago who wouldn’t have had a pitch limit should have been the right way to go instead of waiting for 3 pitches still in a rehab mode.

Posted
2023 rehab starts: 4

2022 rehab starts: 4

2021 rehab starts: 4

But they rushed him back this year!!!!

I stand corrected, but that doesn’t change the need for regular starters, so the Red Sox in a wildcard chase still wouldn’t be using anyone as an opener, or someone who isn’t on a pitch count at this point in the season. Make Red the problem instead of Bloom.

Pretty hard to disagree that they should have gotten a starter.

But that of course assumes they were seriously interested in trying to make the playoffs.

I was for adding 2 solid SP'ers at the deadline and hoped one would be controlled for more than this year.

That doesn't change what Sale is or will be.

I'm also in total agreement with you that we should never count on a single start from Sale, ever again. We need to plan on him never pitching gain. If he does, we can always make room for him.

You're not the reason the Sox are playing LOSER BASEBALL. Hoping for injured players to come back and be miraculously 100% was a fool's errand. Seemed obvious to me, which is why I wanted to ____ at the ________.

Sale has been injured so many times foolishly I was thinking last years rehab was this years rehab, and Sale was coming back for the second time. I guess it was tangling with that TV in Worcester.

Nobody should have expected they'd all be at 100% day one or two.

All the talk about just 2 "opener games" not being reason enough to trade for a SP'er neglects this aspect as well as the effect it had on the pen in subsequent games.
