Incredibly dumb statement. Just for starters, in case you didn't notice, teams don't just play against their own league anymore.

It’s also a dumb statement because the slider low and away is the out pitch from a sequence that sets it up. It’s like telling someone trying to open a combination lock “Just turn to the last number. It’s the only one you need.”

That’s your opinion…

Like Sam Kennedy said last year when the Red Sox had a losing-last place in the Div finish, and didn’t make the postseason that all of baseball operations failed, and I was just agreeing with him. If you have a problem with that then fine for you.

Yes, exactly.

Sam Kennedy doesn’t dictate my opinion either…

One thing that always bothers me is how some folks seem to hope that former Sox players struggle. Even guys that helped win championships in Boston. Does that actually make you feel better about things? I see it even with a Sox icon like Mookie, so no surprise that it happens with J.D., Bogaerts and others. Why do that?

It's a fair question, Denny, and I struggle with that myself. I think the answer is that when one of these guys does poorly with another team, it's less painful for us, and it validates that our front office did the right thing.

The fact some of these former Sox continue to show their brilliance--like Mookie, like Eavoldi, Wacha, JD's recent hot spurt, etc...only tells me how the Sox have become an all-time joke now. Fans think signing 6-team, journeyman Refsnyder is great and then writers saying "Sox are in no position to trade for a starting pitcher."...say what? This is insanity. Upside down world where now the Sox have to hope the Japanese import continues to hit to make up for the other pathetic hitters strewn across the Sox lineup. Has beens, never wills, and Devers...wow, what a great sign for the future!!! Go Sox!! Let's hope Sale comes back! Can't wait for injury-prone Story or Duvall, they will bring us back to greatness!!! 80 year old Justin Turner Clubhouse Leader!! Kike, he's Nomar and Bogie in one body!! Whatever....bad team, bad GM, bad outlook...fans accepting of the mediocrity.

I had a chance to continue a streak of watching the Sox in person when they were in Anaheim (only time didn't see Sox was pandemic year)....I ended it on my own...why? I couldn't justify driving there to watch a team that is hard to stomach, a team that 5 years ago I saw game 5 at Dodger Stadium and the Sox were the best, and proved they were the best, and had all the guns for the future...nope, blow it all up. Well congratulations..what did I miss when they lost 3 in Anaheim? Nothing. They sucked and I missed nothing. Pathetic, and sad.

J.D. Martinez : 13 year MLB career. .288 batting average. Almost 300 home runs. .875 career OPS. 5 time All Star. But he can't hit the slider ???

We don't even have a shortstop.

Just put Whitlock in 0-3 hole.

He sucks. $10 M for this guy?

Rays laughing.

Then why do you keep trying?

I don’t care about changing yours at all. I’m just voicing mine. You are free to voice whatever you want even if out on an island by yourself like with RAF coming up to play SS like you voiced yesterday.

Hey nothing wrong with suggesting guys on the 40 man get a shot. I’ve advocated for Hamilton, too.

Certainly Kike isn’t doing much to keep the guys behind him behind him. And Rafaela would only be an interim until Story got back…

how many errors is that for Kike now given he has played a fair bit in CF too?

All the more reason to get someone else in there.

The Sox have Reyes on the bench and two guys in the minors who I’d like to see get a shot to upgrade the position.

Not sure what Kike has to do to lose the starting shortstop role. But apparently neither “field poorly” nor “hit poorly” are on the list…

They should never even have considered him for shortstop. Is it Bloom being stubborn, Cora being stubborn or both?

Hard to say. Cora could have told Bloom his boy Kike could handle it, or it is Bloom once again being cheap.

I think they hoped Mondesi wouldn’t be out so long. Not sure if they’re fan familiar with his history. But I also don’t think they thought all three of Mondesi, Story and Chang would just keep missing time.

Still, what does Hamilton have to do to get any attention? It’s like he was added to the 40 man (over Thad Ward) and then forgotten about…

Then he wouldn't have signed Mondesí

He was also cheap.

So who should they hace signed,.considering they had not one, not two, but three SS options ahead of Kiké?

I agree they need more MiLB depth but come on.

There was all kinds of talk on here after Bogey left town on who the Red Sox were going to get to play SS, and that was before Story came up lame, and most on here wanted him to stay at 2B. Well Story came up lame, and Kike went to SS who have never played more than 24 games in a season there before. Not a good plan to me.

I think he's right that some of us do it. I do it myself. I grind my teeth a little when Mookie has a game like last night. It's probably less about cheering against him than it is wishing he was still playing for us.

Bloom is a risk-taker, you might say.

That's not what I asked. What MLB player should they have signed?

We talked about Andrus and even Jose Iglesias. I think there were others available.

The real answer is Bogaerts though. And that would have kept Story at second, where he played great last year and where his elbow would get less stress.

They just don't listen to us! :)
