Red Sox pregame hitters’ meetings have taken on a new dynamic this year. Players - led by Turner, Verdugo, Hernández, and Devers - are speaking up, outlining individual and collective approaches, that have translated to games. “It’s been extraordinary.”

Recent meetings have apparently not been quite as fruitful.

Also, Kike should not be saying anything at them. :P

At present time Dugy either. Kike is what he is a career 230+ hitter who went on a hot streak in the 2021 PS, and some thinks he a super hero. More like a Cora pet.

I'm not going to fret over Devers' numbers when he currently sports a 252 BABIP. Hey, wasn't banning the shift supposed to fix that?

He still has his best UZR/150 and a positive OAA.

xWOBA 366 - 84th percentile

AvEV - 94th percentile

Hard Hit % - 93rd percentile

xSLG - 93rd percentile

I'd like him to increase that BB rate a little, but I think he'll be fine over the long haul.

Raffy seems to have a lot of swings, and misses lately. He’ll be alright as long as he doesn’t pull something taking one of those wild swings.

You know what they say when a team goes into a hitting slump. Guys are "pressing", "trying to do too much", et cetera.

To maximize the investment in Devers, the Red Sox could really use a tag-team partner in the heart of the order, a Manny Ramirez to the new Big Puppy. But it doesn't have to be an all-timer -- just a Manny Machado-type hitter... not leg-spiker (the Sox can always use a Manny Sanguillen or Manny Mota).

Is it unfair to automatically assume either Duvall or Story will return from wrist/elbow injuries and provide more protection behind Devers than Duran (batting 5th)?

The reality is there's not much longball in the pipeline. After Raffy's 13 HRs, the batter with the most home runs in the entire organization is David Hamilton (11) -- a guy playing in the same state, just south of Boston, who the Sox value so much that they instead signed and promoted a Triple A infielder from the worst team in baseball.

Marcelo Mayer, ranked the #3 overall prospect this week by ESPN, has seven four-baggers (tied for 3rd in the organization). The Red Sox' next-best prospect, Roman Anthony, #49 overall, has one homer...

His whiff percentile is better than the previous 3 years. He's fine.

Yes it is further south than Boston. Is Worcester "just south of Boston?" Nah. I think there's a more apt description of it.

Way to talk Sox, guys.

... but better clarify, or get crucified on technicalities: Worcester is technically SW from Boston. Driving from Southern New England, going from Hartford to Boston, Worcester is about halfway UP, near where 84 meets the Mass Pike... just take 290 to WOO.

I guess it depends on your definition of "just South." In the grand scheme of things, it is "just south" of Boston latitude wise.

You're talking about guys that can help Raffy, but didn't mention Nathan Hickey. Is he Manny? No, but his bat is playing up in AA. Good chance he's in AAA by year end and they dump his catcher's mitt. Only issue is that he's a LHB.

Hamilton's just wondering how many homers or stolen bases he needs before or if he ever gets the call to go NorthEast.

Needs to play actual defense before he can be called up. He has a popgun arm. Sox believed in the bat of Valdez and were proven right.

LHB, pull hitter with a huge FB rate in WOO.

974 OPS Home

751 OPS Away

He's loving the WOO jet stream. All those flyballs will just die in Fenway. Neither of his homeruns on Tuesday night would have gone out at Fenway per Statcast.

Our farm has some guys hitting very well, but some are far away and others seem like journeymen or have some major holes in their resume:

.999 Hickey AA (bat is looking close to ML ready)

.971 Dalbec (He may get one more look)

.957 Alfaro AAA (blocked by McGuire w no options and Wong our starting catcher)

.944 Fitzy (a career AAAA guy who fades every summer)

.915 Mayer A+ (our best hope but 3 levels from MLB)

.883 Hamilton AAA (leads Sox in HRs and SB) is on the 40

.872 Bonaci A+ (should go to AA, soon)

.867 Jordan A+ (having a nice start but is a few levels from the bigs)

.864 Kavadas AA (can high OBP transfer to MLB? Looks like a DH)

.858 Abreu AAA (maybe the best hope for help, soon) on he 40

.830 Yorke AA (might have the 2nd or 3rd best shot at helping by 2024)

I saw him live a week ago and posted he looked like the best hitter in the Portland line-up -- way better than Yorke or Rafaela. The way he ripped the gaps, and ran, would make him a good guy to bat in front of Raffy.

But a big bopper that foes fear to go deep could help Devers unlock the .333 righty-Miggy hitter we know is inside him... not feeling he has to crank every pitch to the moon. He could still hit 30 HRs and win the batting crown, and contribute more consistently to the Sox attack. And hopefully, not have to one-hand a pitch off his ankle anymore like last night (still a line drive in the book).

Hickey is good. BOS next year at some point in non-catching role?

Dalbec gets traded or released.

Alfaro is just here in case of injury.

Fitzy is just an org guy.

Mayer needs to be moved up to AA.

Hamilton shouldn't be on the 40 man.

Bonaci only has 18 career games at A+. Probably is there for rest of the season. How many 2B/SS can you put in AA?

Jordan needs to go level to level. May get stuck at some point.

Kavadas gets to AAA next year and is there all season. Hasn't really shown plus plus power numbers you'd want from him.

Abreu is very interesting. Next guy called up if there's an injury? Duran better get back to hitting.

Yorke will get to BOS later than Mayer. His new stance could put him into prolonged slumps.

Like dipre said yesterday, you can get guys like that via FA.

Not really "plus plus," but if he can keep up his current power numbers, it's power enough. It's the OBP I'm more worried about as he moves up levels.

2023:

7 HRs in 149 PAs translates to about 30 in 650.

2022:

26 HRs in 515 PAs is about 30 per 650, too.

His doubles have dropped off by a ton! (26 2B+3B in '22 to 3 in '23)

OBP

.443 in '22 (3 levels)

.409 in '23 at AA

Let's see how he finishes this season, and how he does at AAA, but like Jordan, he may get stuck at one level, agreed.
