I think he willing to take that risk. The Red Sox had their chance, and I don’t think that chance is there any longer. He’s watched how they treated Bogey, and how he’s been treated himself since last offseason, and I think that matters.

Bogey watched what we did with Lester and what happened to Betts, and was still dying to stay with the Sox.

I don't think Boston is viewed as a place players don't want to play anymore. We spend big. We make the playoffs and win more often than most teams. There is a good chance to make endorsement money, if you are good enough.

I'm not going to look it up, but how many MLB have made the playoffs or won a ring in the last...

2 years (50%/0% BOS)

3 years (33%/0%)

4 years (25%/0%)

5 years (40%/20%)

20 years (55%/20%)

Bogey was a different breed compared to Lester, Raffy, and Mookie, so I wouldn’t look to much into him wanting to stay here, and comparing him to the other 3. Raffy has seen the spending sprees go wild this year, and I think he wants in on the action then he will most likely get more somewhere else.

He might get it, here, too.

I'm not arguing he will, or that the happenings with Bogey and others hasn't soured him enough to tip the balance away from BOS. I'm just saying I don't think Boston is the poison destination many seem to think it is or is becoming. At worst, not to the extreme some seem to be implying it is..

I would also argue that the Red Sox needed to sign a free agent starter, because as it stands our rotation is made up of kids (Whitlock, Houck, Bello), major injury risks (Sale, Paxton), and guys who may or may not be major league pitchers.

We still desperately need to sign someone like Eovaldi, Kluber, Wacha...I'm assuming a blockbuster trade ain't happening.

A legitimate franchise should always be looking to add and upgrade pitching.

The Yankees, love them or hate them -- and no matter where they are in the standings -- have actually been "in" on starting pitchers seemingly every year since the beginning of free agency, nearly 50 years ago.

Indeed. It's weird how it hasn't gotten them over the top in a very long time.

The last 20 of which are but one blemish away from being completely devoid of titles…

We should start a poll of which team we trade devers to in July? My vote is the Mets.

We sign him or trade him by May 1st- likely by opening day.

And if instead they choose Old Red's third fork in the road and do nothing but watch him depart, it will be the final straw of ineptitude for the current FO.

Like other fan favorites, Raffy will soon be a prior ity.

They'd have to do a lot of wheeling and dealing to add other top talent- yeah right- to change that from becoming the near unanimous view by all Sox fans.

What if - perish the thought - the eye still in the playoff hunt right before the deadline? Do they hold Devers and prioritize the current season? Or trade him and hope things work out in the future?

Sounds all to familiar, and we've proven we don't learn from past mistakes.

Like I’ve said many times Bloom has had 3 years to work on the contracts of Bogey, and Raffy, and has botched everything so far, so I don’t see Bloom fixing things now especially when things have gotten a lot more expensive. Raffy will play out his last year in Boston, and then move on to greener pastures.

There's no way Devers doesn't test free agency based on what he's seen the last few weeks. The only way he's signed to an extension before he hits free agency is if they make a ridiculous offer to him

The ridiculous offer from the Red Sox would be on the low end of the scale, and not on the high end.

So if the Sox are in contention - fire sale anyway!!

Also, do you mean the Sox front office didn’t learn from past mistakes?

They won't learn

They may hald Devers for a comp pick. It's what they do.

So you’re saying it was a mistake to try and make the postseason last year? If they ran up the white flag, ups have supported that move?

It worked out that it was the wrong move, but they didn’tknow Eovaldi and Devers would both get hurt and Sale can’t ride a bike…

You know my position.

Any chance the New York Mets trade for Rafael Devers?

I can name 3-4 teams that would make offers.

I'm still thinking we extend him by opening day. May 1st, at the latest.

They are NOT extending Devers. He will be testing free agency. The ONLY way this doesn't happen is if the Red Sox blow him away with an offer and we know that won't happen

Bloom, the media, and even fans can pretend that Turner was acquired to DH and back-up Casas, but come on.

Does anyone really think it's a coincidence that his main position is third base?

This is very different from the Story signing.

Turner is 38, he DH'd a lot last year, and this contract only guarantees the Red Sox have him for one year.
