You don’t like to broaden your horizons? Imagine if people only took what was said on here, and thought it was gospel. What a rude awakening it would be if they found out otherwise.

My horizons are very broad. It doesn't include sports talk shows from the Boston area. That is probably not a bad thing.

I read most of the links people post here, unless there is a firewall. Some are absurd. Some are insightful and enlightening. Like I said, I don't doubt we may have been the highest bidder, by far, on Yoshida. Why are you still acting like there is a disagreement?

I'm not sure anyone here takes anything people say here as gospel, even their own statements, so more strawmen constructions, again.

I promise to never use this knowledge for evil.

Didn't you say Justin Verlander was winless in the postseason because of TX sports radio?

Yes. I relayed what I thought was a fact. I think they meant WS win. I quickly apologized for quoting someone.

I'm not sure what this has to do with me saying I don't think about things like why or why not the Sox owner talks to sports talk shows.

It's just kind of hypocritical that you get some info from sports radio, but then get down on others for doing the same. To each their own though.

You miss the point.

The "other" claimed their opinions are not swayed by sports talks then gave a clear example of how he came to his opinion based on a media report.

I'm not the one denying my opinions are partially based on things I read and hear.

So, because I agree with someone I read in the globe, or on sports talk radio that means I’m swayed by them? Pretty shallow analogy. I’ve even agreed with you a few times on here, and you know I’m certainly not swayed by you. Once again it’s always someone else missing the point. Happens every time.

You cited him as support for your opinion.

Did you believe Bloom outbid everyone else on your own, before hearing it in the media?

Look, I'm fine with forming opinions based on evidence gathered from the media. I'm just not the one who said he didn't do that.

In this instance yes I listened to Peter Abraham who provided a fact that Boris shut things down shortly after the bidding started, and yes I believed Bloom outbid everyone before I got the info from Abraham, but I hadn’t heard it was by a wide margin. I know in the past the process for these guys usually takes some time, so to sum it up Abraham provided the time line, and the over bidding. Forming opinions on facts, and opinions on opinions are two different things.

Bloom pulled a Dombrowski with Yoshida, basically. He wanted the player so he was willing to make an offer he knew would seal the deal. Maybe Bloom estimated his bid would be 10-15% higher than anyone else's.

Makes sense to me for overcompensating for losing out on Bogey.

Again, I've always been for forming opinions based on facts, and sometimes we get those facts from the media.

I'm just not the one who said I don't base my opinion on social media.

I agree; we likely way overbid everyone else, if the report is correct, and no evidence I know of refutes it.

No, that'd be signing Swanson.

6 days ago I would have said Correa, but yes Swanson fits the bill of an overcompensation.

Swanson is basically post-elbow Story…

It doesn’t matter who he is, but fans will be pissed when he signs elsewhere

Rodon and Swanson are the last two "splashy" picks the Sox could sue to fill a big hole.

We won't get either.

Will we get 2 from this group?

Kluber, Nate, Andrus, Conforto, Gallo, Drury

To be fair, I would welcome a Swanson signing, he probably makes a Devers resigning make more sense (of course Henry and company have to pay up).

Swanson is fine at SS now, but when he loses a step he will move to 2nd. Unlike Bogey who probably needs to move to 3B much sooner.

If Story is playing at a high level it’s a great problem to have

Agreement with notin is uncomfortable but Joey Gallo would be a good fit in right field at Fenway Park.

With the qualifying offer, Nathan Eovaldi could be facing a depressed market in free agency. The righthander's price might be right for the Red Sox.

Elvis Andrus could work.

Still the Red Sox might be challenged to field a better team than the 2022 version.

Or not.

We are not done, yet, and already I think we do better at DH/LF (Yoshida), 1B (Casas), 2B (Healthy Story), 3B (Prime Devers), CF (Healthy Kike), RF (Dugo/Ref), Closer (Jansen), RP 3 (Martin).

As of now, we have lost serious ground at:

SS (Bogey>???), SP (Wacha/Nate/Hill> Bello, Sale, Paxton)

Likely some loss at:

C (Vaz/Plawecki > McGuire/Wong) and maybe 1B or LF (wherever Yoshida does not play)

Pitching remains the greatest concern if the Red Sox lose Nathan Eovaldi, Michael Wacha and Rich Hill from a staff that this year ranked 22nd in fWAR:

Kenley Jansen and Chris Martin could provide 120 effective innings but many question marks remain.

No freaking kidding, sir.

It remains a mystery what our starting pitching upgrade will be, if any. All that's left in realistic targets are Kluber or a trade. We can forget Rodon and apparently they're not "engaged" with Eovaldi.

If the Sox sign Rodon or Swanson then because they went over the luxury tax they would lose two picks; their 2nd and 5th highest pick (and the bonus pool money with it. And they would would lose $1 million in IFA money.

Also they picks they will gain from Bogaerts/Eovaldi signing elsewhere are reduced from 2nd round picks to 4th round picks.

They couldn’t just trade JDM.

Does the potential compensatory draft pick for Xander Bogarts or Nathan Eovaldi fall after the fourth round regardless?

It looks like us going over the tax line means 2 picks fall after the 4th round, rather than 2 after the 2nd round.

Is that how you understand this?

I guess we could move Houck to the rotation, but that really lessens the gains we made by adding Jansen, Martin and Joely.

IP/ERA as RP'ers

39.1/2.75 Whitlock

43.1/2.70 Houck

That's 82 IP out and maybe 122 in with Jansen and Martin.

The starting 5 under this scenario with no additions:

1. Sale

2. Whitlock

3. Houck

4. Bello

5. Pivetta

6. Paxton

7. Crawford/Winckowski/Seabold/Mata/Walter/Murphy

Adding Kluber would help, a lot.

He's definitely the fallguy since we don't really know the inner workings until the next Alex Speier book comes out.

I highly doubt it’s all on him, but he does himself no favors, especially with the public comments he makes.

It's definitely not Bloom making all the calls by himself, but he's been good at making himself look exceedingly foolish. I agree.
