There are two issues: (1) trading away talent. OK. I don't like them doing it, but at least I understand the argument for it. Rational people disagree. BUT (2) if you're going to bring in hum-drum replacements, since you don't care much about what happens, the LEAST thing you can do is bring in someone with even a basic civil record. You don't need these guys to be any good. But how can you ignore the fact that baseball is presumably a 'kids' sport, and kids look up to players. Is it too much to ask that you not put sex-offenders or gratuitously violent players out there as role models?
