I’d rather they sign him than both Bogey and JD combined, but I’m not sure hi fits into Bloom’s priorities.

Sorry for the non answer, but I have no idea. If I had to guess, I’d say no.

Thanks for responding and I'd also guess no.

Devers/Judge in the line-up would probably be the closest the SOX could ever come to Ortiz/Manny.

This team needs a solid first basemen. So many blunders this year from that position.

Kyle Schwarber sucks defensively but I'm sure he would be no worse than Franchy or Dalbec when it comes to defense there. And plus his offense would make up from his weak D.

Hopefully they bring him back somehow before the TL

The better team won the first game, as the Yankees were one run better than Devers. Both starters were meh, both bullpens lights out, and line-ups quiet.

No need for anyone to post that NY won without Judge and Rizzo, since injuries are part of the game, and 4/5ths of Boston's big league rotation is on the IL. Since half include Wacha and Hill, veteran starters seemingly bound to break down, critics can point to Bloom's lack of foresight (and this doesn't include Paxton, who the Sox knew wouldn't be contributing soon). Eovaldi and Sale weren't his signings, but knowing their durability histories also has to factor into planning...

There was also an article about Franchy today with a headline that included the words "on the job training." That phrase just clashes with New York vs. Boston, postseason contenders, arch rivals, and summer showdown. How much longer can a pretender play without an actual first baseman (no one's allowed to say "Schwarber" unless they can document the last time Cordero hit 10 home runs in 12 games, or 16 HRs in 18 games).

Jose Abreu is a free agent after this season, the White Sox are going nowhere, he's 35 so can't cost much, and his bat would be welcomed in the middle of an order that has produced 15 homers combined in half a season by its three-four hitters.

I hope you guys are kidding about bringing back Schwarber. Not that I wouldn't like it too, but he's in the first year of a 4 year, $79 million deal issued by a Mr. Dombrowski. I don't think anyone is trading for him at the deadline...

Abreu has 10 dingers compared to JD's 8. Not really a gulf between those two numbers.

Agreed, and it sure was nice watching the best 2 man combination of the decade, but it's not the only way to win it all, and I don't think Bloom's philosophy is to put all your eggs in 2 baskets.

I'm not sure we go large and long on any 1Bman, this winter, due to Casas being in the system and ML ready, once he returns from the IL and gets some rehab work.

Abreu might sign for 1 year, but probably not.

I can't see the Yankees allowing us to outbid them for Judge.

Yes Flintstone Schwarber is gone, but not forgotten, and in hindsight yes the Sox should have traded JD, and signed Schwaber, but it didn’t happen, and that’s the way it is. All this Judge talk is just plain ridiculous. The Red Sox have not signed Raffy yet, and all of a sudden John Henry is going to hand Bloom over a couple of blank checks, and tell him to sign Raffy, and outbid the Yankees for Judge. It’s more likely for Raffy to join Judge in NY than the other way around so Come On Man let’s get real.

Bloom has to focus on keeping Raffy.

I think Casas is still a ways away from being ML ready injured, or not.

Judge will sign with the Yankees. They are going to pony up the money. I'd be surprised otherwise

I agree, and to even remotely think the Red Sox would outbid the Yankees for Judge is pure fantasy land.

Agreed. There is room for both on the budget, but it would cut into Bloom's ability to fill out the rest of the roster, which will have some big holes in need of filling.

I doubt he fields a team with Judge in RF, but Downs/Arroyo at 2B or SS (wherever Story does not play), Casas./Cordero/Dalbec at 1B and some combination of Wink, Seabold, Bello or Crawford in the rotation replacing 2 or 3 of Nate, Wacha & Hill.

IMO, if we extend Devers, this winter, we will spread out the rest of the winter spending budget to build a more deeper team, instead of a top heavy one.

Just my opinion.

Unlike Betts, judge actually likes playing in NY

I don't remember betts saying he didn't like playing in NY.

Abreu would thrive in Fenway, and might just up his game amidst AL East competition. He was MVP of the league just a summer-and-a-half ago.

I really can't get into the Judge/Devers contract speculation right now. Not when the Sox need to make some moves to survive this month and press for the playoffs this year.

I meant Betts didn't like playing in Boston hence we had to shot to retain him unless they threw over 400M at him. Judge likes to play for NY so they will work out a deal

Like I keep saying Judge to the Red Sox is pure fantasy, but Abreu would take a prospect, or two out of Bloom’s prized possession.

Can't say I blame him.......

Well, I certainly wouldn't complain if we sign him.

Chicago is still in the playoff hunt at the moment, and I’m not sure that they are selling, but the Sox need help now, and to me Abreu would be a good pickup.

True, they are only 4 games back in the loss column behind the red sox....

He (and everyone else) knew what you meant.
