All things must pass, as a great Beatle used to say.

We've been taking 'em one game at a time, but this game was just too much for us to handle. At least we didn't need Houck.

The pen looked good- AGAIN!

Not much else to say that was good.

I was hoping Seabold had a nice start. That's a tough place to get your first start. I hope he gets more chances, but it looks like Wink is firmly above him on the rotation depth chart.

Btw, contraction would also be beneficial to the other 3 major team sports.

I really don't watch them. I stopped watching the national felon league when they all started kneeling. And the nba and the nhl are pathetic with how many teams make the playoffs.

Story's actually a pretty good hitter. He only has trouble with two pitches, fast ones and the ones that break. You put that ball on a T, and you'll see from real hitting.

He is playing gold glove defense and is on pace to drive in over 100 runs playing second base. What more do you want from him?

I love Story’s work at 2nd, and he has come through a lot with his RBIs.

That said he has struck out in 90 of his 259 ABs(34.7%) which a ratio you would expect from a rookie, not a 7 year veteran.

His doesn’t walk much either (24)

Some improvement with the strike outs and walks would be welcome.

He has 27 BBs, which is 2nd on the team...one behind the lead (28 by JD).

We all knew he K'd a lot, but getting worse was not expected. Overall, he has not met expectations.

I'm hopeful he will improve on the K rate and OPS.

His defense has been outstanding.

BAL won again.

They are a half game behind LAA & CWS for 9th in the AL.

They are 1.5 behind TEX for 8th place.

He is on track for around 200 strike outs, which is abysmal .

I would love to see make more contact, as he has very good speed.

His OBP at .300 is the worst of his career.

With all the gloom, and doom on here last night you would have thought the team had just come off a 4-19 stretch instead of a 19-4. They are not going to win them all. Unbelievable.

The orioles are closer to the sox than the sox are to the Yanks.

If the season ended today the Sox are in the playoffs, which is a little more important.

Agreed on all. He's been an overall disappointment with his high RBI count being his saving grace.

I don't mention his great defense and decent baserunning, because that was expected.

We still have more than half a season to go.

I expect his OPS to improve.

We hear a lot about that "big week" carrying his numbers, and there is some truth to that, and he's not done better since then than he was doing before that week, but I'm still optimistic he comes around.

.613 first 140 PAs (to May 18) 16 RBI

1.463 middle 33 PAs (5/19-5/26) 21 RBI

.617 last 120 PAs (May 27>) 14 RBI

And so does the constant "If's"

It's a fact that the Sox are in a playoff spot right now, just as much as the fact you gave.

Don't know why you waste your energy.

If you go by DWAR's, Torres and Gimenez are neck and neck with Story--all three are at +1.1. But I could not agree more he has made a lot of great plays and makes a real difference @ 2b. I also agree the rbi's are commendable.

However, his fWAR is 1.6, 95th best in MLB, and his salary is $22M/year, so I think he is underperforming vis-a-vis his cost.

Consider Story's teammates. Devers (4.2), Bogaerts (3.4), Pivetta (1.9), and JDM (1.8) all have higher fWAR's than Story and are paid less.

Actually, let's just compare Bogey's 3.4 to to Story's 1.6 (less than half of Bogey's fWAR) because they are about the same age and both past free agency. Indeed, Story was brought in, I think, to replace Bogey. He's a better fielder and has driven in way more runs (51 vs. 31). But his fWAR is half of Bogey's.

Great run by MOON on the opening game threads. Ya dun good, ol' buddy.

And this isn't the only one. He's carried this team on his back. ;)

Mad Max, but you may have a point.

I'm being mean. Yes, those K's piss me off. But I do like his defense and rbi's.

But, as I just pointed out, Story's overall fWAR is 1.6 to Bogey's 3.4, and Bogey is paid less.

Certainly, these last few years, but he did have a shining moment in that short 2020 season to maybe keep hope alive for his next GM.

Here are his 2 year incremental OPS:

.548 (530 PAs) '13-'14

.834 (891) '15-'16

.722 (1076) '17-'18

.760 (784) '19-'20

.524 (650) '21-'22

It's really just his first and last 2 seasons that were unacceptably low for most OF'ers.

His DWAR right now is -0.3. To me that is a showstopper.

What's really a shame is that with all the terrible teams already in MLB, the powers that be are still talking about expansion. If it's a choice between money or quality, money wins every time.

Of course it's money.

On the other hand, the rock bottom team (Oakland A's) in MLB still wins one out of three games--25 of 75 so far.

In the NHL the Montreal Canadiens won 22 of 82 games, the Flyers 25 of 82, and the Coyotes 25 of 82.

In the NFL the Jets won 4 of 17 games, the Texans 4 of 17, the Jaguars 3 of 17, the Giants 4 of 17, the Lions 3 of 16, and the Panthers 5 of 17.

And it's a fact that the playoffs don't start in June, so whether a team is in a playoff spot right now is irrelevant.

My scalp has scabs from all the head-scratching.

Actually, that's good news. His overall fWAR is -0.5, which means, according to Fangraphs, there are well over a thousand MLB players today who are better (in terms of contributions to winning or at least not losing too many games) than JBJ.

So, I guess we just scratch the 70-76 games played to date as irrelevant. Tell that to the Yankees and see where that gets you. I'll bet you can't find single Yankee fan anywhere who thinks what they've done so far means nada.

Also tell it to the A's, who will be thrilled to start over.

I'm not saying a lot won't happen in the slightly more than half a season yet to play, but declaring almost half a season played to be irrelevant is just asinine.

Umm, if the Yanks don't make the playoffs then where they were in the standings on June 28th is irrelevant. Pretty simple.
