No, just the fact that sometimes one has to tip one's cap to the opposing pitcher.

Well tonight is definitely one of those occasions. Gausman has been tough, no question. I've whined about our hitters, but Gausman has not been lucky. He has been the lost and now found brother of the wicked witch of the west. That splitter reminds of Uehara's. Fastball is pretty good too. And the slider. Changeup OK, but not well controlled.

Seabold has been hittable, but for his 1st start against a pretty good hitting team he hasn't been terrible. Shouldn't give up on him too soon.

I agree on this too. I'm not giving up.

He might have been nervous. Coming up from the farm and pitching for the SOX is a whole lot different than pitching for Kansas City, for example.

When Manny was in the NESN booth the other day, he made a statement that if a player hadn't played for Boston or NY, he hadn't really played major league baseball.

That may have been a little exaggerated, but I knew where he was coming from.

Manny being Manny, but you both have a point. :o

Story's actually a pretty good hitter. He only has trouble with two pitches, fast ones and the ones that break. You put that ball on a T, and you'll see from real hitting.

Here's another Manny being Manny.

Manny left Cleveland to sign with the SOX for a lot more money. So Manny has a conversation with both Bogey and Devers telling them that they should stay in Boston even if they have to take less money. IOW, Manny pulls a 'do what I say, and not a do as I do.' Ya gotta love Manny.

He also left Boston because he wanted a bigger paycheck--at age 35.

Sure was. But Seabold looked pretty good the first 2 innings.

Seabiscuit spit the bit after the first turn. :D

But with all the distractions that go with the guy named Manny, no one worked harder at his craft

I lost track of how many times Manny's grandmother died.

True. Like his predecessor in LF (Ted Williams), his craft was hitting and nothing else.

Tonight’s pitching matchup was a mismatch.

Toronto has their 3 best pitchers lined up against us. They need to find a way and hit them plain and simple.

The SOX have their 2 best pitchers lined up for tomorrow and Wednesday. Should be interesting.

Mad Max, but you may have a point.

That figures. The Oakland Awfuls are only in the league to fill up the schedule.

For sure, what a shame for such a storied franchise. 9-5 now.

JBJ may be one of a very few outfielders who has hung around so long because of his glove. It happens more often with SS's, 2nd basemen, and catchers, but not so much with OF's.

If the SOX are gonna keep JBJ, he should only be used as a defensive replacement in later innings. If Cora hasn't figured out that JBJ can't hit at this point, then Cora's not the genius I thought he was.

The highest batting average in the A’s lineup is in the .240’s. Jed Lowrie hits Cleanup while hitting below the Mendoza line.

What's really a shame is that with all the terrible teams already in MLB, the powers that be are still talking about expansion. If it's a choice between money or quality, money wins every time.

Certainly, these last few years, but he did have a shining moment in that short 2020 season to maybe keep hope alive for his next GM.

Here are his 2 year incremental OPS:

.548 (530 PAs) '13-'14

.834 (891) '15-'16

.722 (1076) '17-'18

.760 (784) '19-'20

.524 (650) '21-'22

It's really just his first and last 2 seasons that were unacceptably low for most OF'ers.

So true. Contraction would be my choice.

So, basically, 4 crappy years and 5 mediocre to fair years.

Exactly, but as you and I both know that will never happen. Another elephant in the MLB room is the sparsity of African Americans who are interested in MLB.

W/O Latino ballplayers, MLB would really be hurting.
