The J.D. Martinez – Dodgers rumor floating around is from their flagship radio station postgame show. It only said that LA "is kicking the tires" on JDM and other right-handed bats.

The Padres would send to the #Nationals shortstop CJ Abrams, left-handed pitchers Mackenzie Gore and Adrian Morejon, as well as outfielders Robert Hassell III (No. 23 MLB prospect), Joshua Mears (No. 8 Padres prospect) ).

Seems like a good haul for Soto. Sox are going nowhere and should sell the expiring deals at least. I'd listen on everyone.

Why not?

It’s hard to imagine them paying Machado, Tatis and Soto all at once but I don’t think Soto would have an issue with it…

Jared Walsh is the guy I’m on the phone about tonight if I’m Bloom .Guy hits to all fields with power he’s fast as F and plays 1b and LF ....if I’m Bloom I move JBJ to CF and Dugo to RF until kike gets back .I could see Walsh X Story Devers Casas Verdugo Kike Murphy core then supplement a FA DH .Trade Franchy Duran Vaz And likely JD And Bob at the deadline for cannon fodder mostly but to get Walsh and Murphy you need to come off some blue chippers . That team would be scary as hell with Soto .But he may want to play on East coast ? I think I read that someplace ? Maybe wrong .

Wouldn’t it be freaking Amazing if JH just said F it ? Gets Soto Gets Murphy Xtends Devers and X ? Because you know he could right ? And Fenway Park would be the ticket to have once again .Soto and Devers the next Manny and Ortiz ? Xander our Captain .This should be the case and Soto would likely hit 50 ding dongs for many years .

Someone very close to him resides in southern New England

Boras turned down the offer, he didn’t

That’s all I’m saying for now..

You are correct

Mets gave up a pretty good A ball pitching prospect for 2 beer leaguers

Get in the game Orlando!

Why has nobody lauded Bloom's latest blockbuster move?

On July 25th 2022, Chaim 'genius' Bloom only gave up cash considerations for 33 year old outfielder, Abraham Almonte.

https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/red-sox-acquire-abraham-almonte-trade-brewers

Our season is SAVED!!!

Please consider that Almonte had a slash line of .216/.331/.399 in 64 games with the Braves in 2021.

Surely you can see the Red Sox have cornered the market on outfielders who can barely hit major league pitching. Nobody will see us coming!

With astute moves like this, Bloom is surely winning over the skeptical BoSox fans!

Scott Boras can’t turn down the offer without Soto’s permission. Boras works for Soto, not the other way around.

If the East Coast was all that important, Soto could simply sign with Washington regardless of what Boras says…

This season officially makes no sense.

Eovaldi looks like he’s pitching injured and it’s shown

Sale is out as a starter for the year essentially

Wacha and Hill are still out.

Pivetta had one reasonably good start after looking like cannon fodder for 6 weeks

The Sox offense still has its holes. The pen still is undermanned. The Sox have a TON of expiring contracts with players who’d be desirable to other teams. They’re currently 3.5 out of a PO spot and sinking. They cannot beat the AL East, a division they’re currently last in. They’re tied with the White Sox and have two teams in front of them before they get to the Rays in the final WC slot.

And they’re going for it? This make no sense. This is prime time to sell. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE this, but this is a move by Henry to keep asses in seats and not a move that’s best for the organization’s long term health

Try to keep asses in the seats is 100% correct. The Red Sox are on pace to have the lowest actual attendance in the JH era, and he sees that.

If the last decade has taught us anything it's how quickly you can turn an organization around. The Sox have the money, and the system to do so.

I have zero problem with them selling off assets that are of the expiring contract kind. Yes, they will get a bunch of shiny prospects that many hate because they're just prospects. But remember, you don't have to develop every single one and live with their adjustment periods at the MLB level, you can trade them for MLB capable players.

With the money coming off the books this year, I fully expect the Red Sox to rebuild this team this offseason. Next year, this will truly be Blooms team.

Soto should 100% test the open market. Sign an extension when you are multiple years away from FA, not when you are on the doorstep.

Huh?

3 career SB.

Sprint Speed is 22nd percentile. Slower than Jose Abreu.

I think you're confusing him with someone else.

He does need to field a AAA team too and right now the previous AAA squad is playing in BOS.

I'm not so sure. I'm not a big fan of this FA class. Who would they target?

I think they'd have to work the trade market this offseason, and they should have the ammunition to do it. Especially if they become sellers and trade guys like Eovaldi and JD.

I'm skeptical the return for our pending free agents will yield anything shiny, as in highly-regarded by the industry. Most of our trade bait is damaged goods: Nate and JD don't look 100%, Kike's been hurt forever, Wacha-Hill-Strahm, etc. Maybe the best we can hope for are a few hidden gems...

Vazquez has more value, but should probably be re-signed since there's no catcher in the system as all-around competent. If the Sox really want to do this right, and land someone legitimate that can be part of the rebuild, they should shop Houck, who would add controllable quality depth to a contender's bullpen.

I'm fine with that approach. I think constantly going after 30 year old FA's isn't the best thing for your roster.

Given their recent performance, or should I say lack thereof, what could the sox reasonably expect in return?

It will probably be a largely uneventful deadline, but Bloom has apparently yet to wave a white flag.

While I’m for dealing away Eovaldi and Martinez while simultaneously working on deals for replacements with more control (Christian Walker? Pablo Lopez? Luis Castillo?), I have my doubts Bloom’s overall vision syncs up with mine…

His vision may sync up, but what he can actually pull off at the deadline could be different.

So….. I should be on other message boards trying to influence other GMs?

Nice try!! ;)
