Yes, and I was a Red Sox fan for 35 years before I saw them win it all. And it was very painful at times.

I'm just saying that given my preference, it's not something I would go through.

I didn't express it very well.

Being a Red Sox fan from the early 70's to 2003, I did not take any comfort from knowing we had won back in 1918. For all I cared, I was a fan of a baseball team that never wins rings. 2004 changed that, and I'm eternally grateful to Henry and his team of baseball people that made it all happen. The next 3 rings were gravy and have made me greedy, but I am fully capable and accepting of the fact that some sacrifices need to be made to reach the promise land.

I'm fine with the two steps up- one step back philosophy. This one step back has lasted longer than I hoped, but back in the winter of 2019-2020, I expected a rather prolonged down period, as I felt it might take 4-5 years to build the farm back up to top 5 or 10 levels.

The 2021 season might have given me false hopes, but it might also have been a real sign of great progress that just had a big hic-up along the way due to various factors, including the 3 you pointed out in your 1/3 faults post.

But now you’re all about system over results. Results tell you the ‘67 Red Sox didn’t win…

I was there for game 7 so I know ist hand.

Some fans like the process better than the results. Personally I go for the results.

The results, ultimately a championship, are the only reason for a professional team to exist. Professional players can have a different outlook because they are first interested in making big money, then with earning non-cash accolades.

Boston Red Sox’s James Paxton leaves first rehab start after facing 2 batters (lat tightness); club hopeful injury is minor

I am sure that it is minor. This is what happens when you go dumpster diving for pitchers in the irregular bin.

It was the expensive side of the dumpster though.

The signing was obviously more about 2023 and beyond, with hopes of a late 2022 season assist, so let's see how it works out.

I have no issue with being highly suspect about this type of "dive." I am, too.

Who's more fragile, him or chris freakin' frail?

Interesting series coming up. The Orioles are an improved team , but it really is just an improvement from terrible to mediocre. They were deadline sellers and it is starting to show. They have slowly been slipping and sliding out of even the dumb third wild card spot. The Sox need to sweep this series . And if they play well , that is doable..On the other hand , an Oriole sweep would probably be a kill shot..

I think it comes down to if the Sox bring their bats with them, or not. Especially JD, Bogey, and Raffy.

My favorite part of the "realistic" threads is how unrealistic they tend to be......

Some things are possible, but not very realistic. Might be better to call it " The 2022 season " or something like that.

Bogey, Martinez and devers have quit on this team. Very sad!

I don’t know if they have quit, but they sure look like they just want the season to end.

RBI per AB

63/412 Devers .152

58/307 Story .189***

57/435 Dugo .131

49/422 Bogey .116

46/392 JD M .117

42/294 Vaz .143

32/281 Dalbec .114

29/271 JBJ .107

28/228 Kike .123

24/215 Cordero .112

21/184 Arroyo .114

Men on Base (RBI/AB)

55/208 Dugo .264

51/166 Devers .307

51/149 Story .342

45/203 Bogey .222

41/189 JD M .217

36/128 Vaz .281

RISP

46/85 Story .541

44/116 Bogey .379

42/120 Dugo .350

38/117 JD M .325

33/88 Devers .375

33/88 Vaz .375

*** If you take away those 10 big games where Story had 22 RBIs, which is not really fair, as the Sox went 8-2 in those games, he still ended up with 36 RBI in 268 ABs.

That is a .134 RBI per AB rate, which still outshines Bogey, JD and almost everyone else on the team without taking away their best 10 games streak.

Slumping is not quitting.

Also, one reason players slump is that they are trying too hard. That's the opposite of quitting.

I'm not saying Devers is trying too hard or has lost focus. I don't know.

It is "sad," though.

The Sox have a better team than Baltimore . Sadly , the Orioles are playing with more energy and enthusiasm . That simply should not be. Can it change , starting tonight ? Stay tuned.

I don't know if Bogey's market value is going down, but it should be. His bat has been anemic for a while now.

Trevor Story has played in 81 games to date . He is batting .221 with an OPS of .713 . In no world is that acceptable . We can only hope for better . We still owe him a bundle.

The big question is this a off year, or the beginning of a downward spiral?

My eye test detected many RBIs.

That being said, he's been a major letdown through the 1/6th point of his contract.

Unfortunately the HBP ruined his chances to turn things around this year.

I'm still optimistic about him being a big help in the next 2-3 years. I hope that's not perceived as being a blind Bloom apologist.

His defense is superb.

Maybe he just needed an adjustment period to the AL, but the guy has skills. K's don't ever bother me, if the players gets on base or helps in other ways.

The eye test showed a lot of those RBI came in a 10 day period, and the rest of the time there were lots of swings, and misses, which resulted in many K’s, which if he hadn’t gotten hurt might have reached 200.

In the midst of our general offensive suckitude, Arroyo and Verdugo are both on fire...

Arroyo has played a good 2B too. He doesn’t have Story’s range, but I think he turns the DP better.

And Arroyo is a guy that many were calling to DFA earlier this year. Sometimes patience pays off.

It looked that way for Brasier, too, until last night.

No one will know for another year minimum. In his first year with the Mets, Francisco Lindor had a .734 OPS. He has a .810 OPS this year.

Some players struggle a bit in a new league…

With Arroyo it’s just to be able to stay on the field.
