Back to the solution of all the expiring contracts I guess is to just let them run out. Great baseball mind, or just bad computer information.

What would your solution be?

No suggested solutions- just griping.

Isn't this the guy that is still crying about the Vaz trade?

Pretty simple, orlando should have traded them instead of letting them expire with no return.

Did Theo have more, or less talent to begin with?

The Cubs did the total tank thing. Regardless, it was a 5 year plan.

DD also pretty much had a 5 year plan with the Tigers, based on the results.

Theo had a 100 loss team his first year, and they had 5 losing seasons in a row before they had a winning one the year before the title, so that team had to be built. I guess I should have clarified, and was talking about the Sox who had just won a title in 2018 with their best record ever, and have gone down hill since. Bloom had some pretty good talent to work with upon his arrival in Boston compared to what Theo had to work with. Theo built the Cubs up, where Bloom has brought the Red Sox down. I wouldn’t compare Bloom who hasn’t won anything to Theo who won three WS, so when I said 5 years I was talking about the Red Sox present situation.

We’ve gone over this many times already, and I have already answered this. Do you think what he has done, or hasn’t done right?

I believe, after the tanking, which would not be accepted by many posters, here, Theo was given a pretty large checkbook after year 3, which is what I expect Bloom might get.

I agree with all of this.

Like I read around right after the trade deadline, his half sell/half buy strategy made him appear rudderless.

The best description I heard was Bloom came to a fork in the road, so he looked for a third solution. Decision making at its best.

You are right about 1 thing. Tanking would not be accepted in Boston, and nor should it. Just throwing seasons away?Come On Man! We’ve thrown 2 away under Bloom already, and you want more?

Aren’t there comp picks if they offer a QO?

Also, Bloom stated he didn’t want to give up on the season and didn’t like the returns offered on the guys that remain.

Do you think just maybe that he should have started doing something before it got to the trading deadline this year? That’s why I say he’s had 3/years to work on this. Do you honestly think comp picks are going to replace these guys?

One the major criticisms made against Bloom is that he "lacks a sense of urgency". In Tampa there are no fans holding Ray's management feet to the fire. Whether the Ray's win or lose the same 9000 fans show up. Any more than that are rooting for the visiting team.

"He had 3 years to work on this."

Well, in 2021, Bogey, Eovaldi and JD were kind of important in us making the playoffs. So I don't think trading them last year was such a great idea.

It just worked out that we had a bunch of contracts expire at the same time this year. There's really no great solution to it. It's unfortunate that Eovaldi and JD had down years this year.

Bloom isn't a miracle worker. Every GM gets saddled with some bad contracts and usually all you can do is cut losses.

Bloom's sense of urgency seemed OK last year when he picked up Schwarber, Iggy and Shaw to help the team get in the playoffs.

But that's all ancient history, right?

Was JD a bad contract? Was Bogey a bad contract? Was Evol a bad contract? Was Vaz a bad contract? Was Kike a Bad contract? Now Sale was a bad contract, but what other bad contracts was Bloom saddled with. Bloom has never had to be a miracle worker in Boston, but just a competent one.

The 2nd part is just cover for a failure to have a cohesive plan IMO......

He made deals last year just like he did this year. He has shown no sense of urgency in actually fixing problems other than patch work deals that he later annuls as in the case of Schwarber.

JD and Eovaldi weren't bad contracts overall, no. But the last year of their contracts has certainly been bad. That's one of the reasons the team is where it is this year, and there wasn't much Bloom could do about it.

So this "he had 3 years to do something about it" doesn't make much sense as a criticism.

I’ve admitted he did a good job last year with Whitlock, Renfroe, and Kike before that, but then he started tearing it down with getting rid of a 96 RBI man, and not resigning two that you mentioned . Iggy has had a pretty good year, and Flintstone will always get you HR. Last year is over, and now we’re in last place. We could have won a WS last year, and it still wouldn’t change the fact that we are in LAST place now.

Some folks are all about right now, I get that.

No Bloom is not responsible for the bad, or lack of production from some of the players this year, but if your philosophy is to just let all the expiring contracts run out just doesn’t make much sense to me. Comp picks for suspects just doesn’t make sense either.

To me where Bloom having a lot to do with last years success he he is also somewhat responsible for this years lack of success. I give him credit where credit is due, but some don’t want to give him blame when that is due.

The only other real option for JD and Eovaldi was to trade them at this year's deadline for suspects.

Once again if you were going to trade JD it should have been done last off season when he was coming off a 99 RBI year. He wasn’t worth as much at the trade deadline with the lack of production he was having.

Right, but they were hoping to make the playoffs again this year.

I get that, but then you just let him walk away for nothing. As it turned out, and I was all for keeping him for this last year it turned out to be a bad decision. Same with Evol. None of the guys looking for a contract next year outside of Vaz is not even having a close to standard year for them, and will lose money, because of it.

Understood, but when it became obvious to everyone who doesn't wear red sox colored glasses that they weren't making the playoffs this year orlando should have pulled the trigger and shipped out jd and eo.....

Crying about the Vaz trade? The one where the great Valdez is hitting under the Jeter Downs line after you were raving about after a few HR. How would you know if I was griping, or not since I’m on ignore, but yet you comment on most of my post. Hiding in the bushes that you do, and letting someone else see if the coast is clear. From the Alaskan Bush People on tv to the Houston Bushman on the site. Kind of like Artie Johnson. Very Interesting, and sad, but true.
