I didn't realize he was that old when he tweeted it. Still, I know 15-year-olds are more mature than 60-year-olds. His comments were rooted in his religious belief, I still don't blame him for being brainwashed when he was a child.

Do we really know when Dermody embraced Christianity? Not uncommon for adults to convert. Of course, he is from Iowa, where it’s also very common.

Still, brainwashed or not, he’s young enough to have grown up around social media and old enough to have seen these scandals before. He gets no free pass from me…

He said that it was a very recent thing (since 2020?) and that he went overboard with it and just recently reeled it back in a little.

Well as someone who has a vested interest in changing people's hearts and minds, I can tell you personally that persecuting them for their beliefs is not the way to change their minds. If he refused to take down the posts and doubled down on his sentiments I would not have that opinion, but I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

They’re excited about the potential. No harm in that…

Nobody said it was, but like I keep saying these guys are being counted on to be more than just filling out a uniform, and being a cheap contract for a while.

Let's forget about potential and sign a bunch of old guys to expensive contracts and then suck like the Mets.

Potential only gets you so far too.

You do know literally every half-decent player in this league first got brought up based on potential? Resisting the idea of building from within while only spending on the really good talent is like dying of a heart attack because you don't like that newfangled blood pressure medication. You'll take your classic medication even if it kills you doggone it!

I second that opinion.

Being counted on by who? They could just as easily be traded.

I doubt the Sox themselves are banking on them; anyone with any experience in MLB has certainly seen even the highest ranked prospects flounder, wash out, or settle in at mediocrity…

Congratulations that is most cogent post you've written in the past year.

I’m glad someone is keeping score. Out of curiosity, what post did it knock off the top of the list? (Presumably not this one.)

All I’m saying is that there had better be a backup plan. What’s the backup plan at 1B outside of Turner for now?

How many backup plans should a team have?

How many backup plans should a team have?

I give you SS, and 2B this year. 1B, and CF last year. CF in 2021. Kike was like the last option until he settled in there, so the answer is as many as needed.

at least one more than a 38 year old guy with limited 1B experience

I think most teams try to plan 3 deep at each position, with some back-up covering 2-3 positions or possibly being forced to play an unfamiliar position as the 3rd stringer.

The Kike at SS is different, because we knew early enough that Story and Mondesi were not going to play in April, so we added Park, and then switched to Chang. Kike was technically the #1, but Chang was always the #1 defender between the two (and Hamilton/Arroyo...) Reyes is not a great SS, but anyone is better at SS on D than Kike, at this point.

I'd say, to start the year we had this...

C: McGuire/Wong and Alfaro. Now, it's non 40 man catchers Caleb Hamilton, RHern or SScott

1B: Casas, Turner and Dalbec in AAA (Kavadas too far away for '23)

2B: Kike, Arroyo and EValdez/Hamilton in AAA (Reyes was added and turned out better than Kike at SS on D)

SS: Story and Mondesi (IL) Kike, Chang, Arroyo with Hamilton mysteriously not available. (Mayer and others are too far away)

3B: Dever and Turner with Dalbec in AAA

LF: Yoshida, Duvall, Refsnyder

CF: Kike, Duvall, Duran replaced Tapia (Rafaela too far away)

RF: Verdugo and Refsnyder, Tapia (Abreu maybe too far away)

Plan C is Dalbec, at least for this year…

Lmfao!

You pink hats keep riding the Bloom Train right into the basement

The spins you put in this thread are laughable

ML Roster is a joke

Farm System who you pink hats say has depth is delusional

How is the Super prospect Binelas doing?

Smell the coffee pink hats, the ship is sinking and won’t be long before it’s sunk

Serving 73 89 and that’s a gift

The Baseball ops clown needs to be fired, call Epstein and mend old fences and get this clown show back in the game!

I will admit I haven’t watched the Red Sox the last two nights. Watching Arnold Ziffel get drafted in the Army on Green Acres reruns seemed like a better option to me. Hell who knows if JH watches anymore. I see the Red Sox did avoid getting the broom last night, but was that really a good thing? Losing 3 straight to the Rockies at Fenway may have been the best thing in the long run, but then again who really knows what’s the best thing anymore. Edited by Old Red

He has an fWAR of 2.0 now. Does fWAR not weed out the luck factor enough?

We'll know at season's end, if he's even pitching.

It's quite amazing how lucky Wacha is. His sub-3.00 ERA this season is only because he plays on a team with 17 shortstops...

And winning 11 of 13 decisions for the last-place Red Sox last year? His team-best WHIP for starters was obviously the product of constant atom balls drilled directly into the gloves of immobile fielders, along with the good fortune of having generous umps with extra-wide strike zones... for an entire season.

Team best WHIP for starters on the '22 Res Sox is like best sprint speed on a team of peg-legged runners.

What does Wacha really have to do with the 2023 Sox or Bloom anyway? Pan him for not signing Wacha, but congratulate him for not signing deGrom or Rodon? Should we go down the list of all available FA and grade him on which guys he should or shouldn't have signed in hindsight?
