Maybe you feel better about 23 than I do. Hopefully, Bloom makes some acquisitions that will make me more positive.

He should have a big enough budget to go beyond anything he's ever had before, although he does have to replace Bogey, JD, Nate, Vaz and newcomers Wacha, Strahm and Hill.

He will no longer have Pedey or Price's deadwood as a hindurence.

I've said a few times, 2023 will be Bloom's "flashpoint."

One ought to consider the moves not made as well. Sitting on ones hands while positions grossly underperform is also something to score a GM's effectiveness.

No doubt, that is a fair criticism, although budget restraints were part of the equation.

Yes, Bloom chose to add Paxton, JBJ and Diekman's money to the pool, but the additions of Wacha, Strahm, Schreiber, Refsnyder and to some extent Hill, more or less evened that out, IMO, if not ended up a net plaus, if you add McGuire, Pham and others to the balance sheet - not to mention further farm additions via trades.

I agree with that.

I'm not trying to hedge my bets, here, and I have no idea if Bloom will "get the job done," this winter, but he really needs to hit on about 75-85% of all his key additions to make the 2023 team into a winner.

I'm optimistic, but I realize he has not been at the 75-85% success rate, so far. While I do think he has shown a net plus in signings and non-trade additions, considering the budget he's had, he needs to do even better. I'm thinking he might hit 50-75%, and the odds on large and long contracts has been worse than that in MLB, but I would not bet on better than 67%.

8-10-18

8 games under 500

10th place in the AL as a whole

18th place in all of MLB

Not something to be proud of, but a 9-1 finish will get them to 500.

This has what $200M+ has gotten you.

Sox eliminated from the playoffs last night. It’s a good, good day

Berrios has a 5.27 ERA.

And you're still in the AA Troll League.

Berrios, LOL!

ERA+

155 Wacha

101 Nate

96 Bello

93 Pivetta

87 Hill

77 Crawford

74 Berrios

73 Winckowski

No matter how many times you tell the clown, he sticks to his insane mantra.

He STILL thinks the Twins would have taken Duran for Berrios? And still doesn’t realize they received a much better package from Toronto?

He’s getting stupider…

So it's actually massively stupid on two levels: 1) his trade would never have happened; 2) Berrios is having a lousy season.

I think he was demoted to A-.

IIRC, just before the trade deadline, he was sent to one of the Korean League chat boards for a broken kimchi pot to be named later.

They must have released him.

That would be metaphysically impossible.

Dude is bottom 1% in total Barrels given up. He's been a little unlucky this year, but he's very overpaid. If you look at his statcast, it just reeks of mediocrity. He's a middle rotation guy who gets a lot of WAR because he eats a lot of innings a la Rick Porcello.

Garbage GM!

Renfroe only had 70 RBI this year. Meh.

Benintendi had 5 HR. For a slow LF only guy, that's not what I'm putting out there considering he had a career high BABIP that probably isn't going to be a repeated.

But he was never available for Duran, which was my point…

It’ll be more than brief. 2023 doesn’t line up well either. The market is not there to splurge and make major changes.

We don't need as much as you think.

We will be close to the other teams in the AL east with a few moves like this:

Trade for Lopez (Rafaela, Yorke and Wikelman?)

Sign Nimmo

QO Wacha

Sign Bogey or Swanson

Sign two from Fulmer, Rogers, Montero, Jansen, Kimbrel or some other solid set-up guy.

This is a much better team than 2022:

SP: Lopez, Wacha, Pivetta, Bello, Sale/Paxton

RP: Whitlock, Houck, Rogers, Fulmer, Schreiber, Barnes, Crawford & one from German, Kelly, Taylor, Danish, Winckowski, bazardo, Ort, or a converted SP'er

1. Kike CF

2. Story 2B

3. Bogey SS

4. Devers 3B

5. Nimmo RF

6. Dugo LF

7. Casas 1B (Hosmer/Dalbec)

8. Arroyo/Dalbec/Hosmer/Pham/EValdez DH

9. McGuire/Wong C

Totally realistic.

Even if he was available for Duran, it was a horrible point for the other guy.

I think that's VERY realistic, but I bet Pablo could be had and save Rafaella and maybe even Yorke too. If we agree to take back Garcia or Soler for him, the Marlins have already publicly stated they're looking to shed payroll and if one of those guys rebounds then you have depth in the outfield and DH too.

We can check back in March 2023 to determine how realistic this plan was.

Which organization is smarter the Yankees or Red Sox, if Judge and Bogaerts reach free agency neither team will win a bidding war for their player. Bogaerts will get offers in the 7 year $200 million range while Judge the sky’s the limit, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a $400 million offer. So which team is smart enough to keep their player

My hunch is that it's going to be Whitlock in the rotation. I don't think Lopez will be here.

There are simply no words for how insane it would be to give a $400 million contract to a man who will turn 31 in April, 2023.

Why couldn't the Sox match a 7/200 offer?

Same with the Yankees. They have a history of printing money. It's a matter of wanting to keep the player for the money, not being able to.

Maybe the other teams would be dumb to sign them for that much? IDK.
