Seems like pretty minor stuff to me, getting blown out of proportion because the team is having a crap year. Strictly my opinion.

I tend to agree with you. It's worth watching though. You learn a lot more about what a team is all about when you experience losing as opposed to winning.

You really learn what the media wants you to learn. Is a clubhouse filled with grown men of varying backgrounds, cultures, languages and attitudes ever the harmonious place we think it is even when a team is winning?

Because of the Tampa Bay North thing, mainly. Shaughnessy has been all over that from Day One.

BTW I didn't realize how right you were about Belichick being in the crosshairs until I read Shaughnessy's column before the Pats second game. The Boston media is seriously after Bill now, it seems.

Actually they have been after Bill for two years now. He gets blamed for Brady leaving town, and the team being not as good. A 20 year run, and 1 losing season is all it takes. Of course Bill didn’t major in public relations either, and makes it harder on himself with the media.

This is totally on the GM for not spending on translators who can sing in every language to lead in the chorus of "Kumbaya." No more bargain basement translators!

I guess it depends on if you think clubhouses chemistry means anything, or not. Sometimes just changing the manager can make a big difference. Remember Morgan magic? And wast it in 78 that the Yankees went to Bob Lemon, and the Yankees took off on a big winning streak?

On yes, I remember both things well. Another thing that was mentioned as a reason for the Yankees turnaround in 1978 was that there was a newspaper strike in New York that summer.

Then there was Bill Lee saying the reason those Yankees were so good was exactly because they were such a bunch of a-holes LOL

Yep, the 70s Yankees brawled with each other as much as they fought the Red Sox. And New York won pennants and World Series -- but the latter only came after they spent big to recruit Catfish Hunter and Reggie Jackson as the highest paid pitcher and position player of all time at the time... they were the primetimers from the Oakland clubs who hated their owner/GM so much that they won three rings in a row just to spite him.

We are currently seeing the results of going all in from 2016-2018.

No, we are seeing the results of extending guys after winning it all in 2018 to risky contracts. This was caused by the mismanagement in the 2018-19 offseason.

Exactly! Going All In at any time had nothing to do with this year. Signing Sale to that extension especially since he still had a year left on his contract was mismanagement at its best. Going all in so called from 2016-2018 had nothing to do with all the injuries this year, or the less than stellar performances from so many players this year.

It could also be that the Boston media don't like Bloom and they're looking for any chance to put him in a negative light.

That doesn't sound like them at all!

Can you believe they DFA'd the backup catcher that can't play a lick?!?

Because the overwhelming bulk of the Boston sportswriters community thinks complaining = intelligent commentary…

It's the easiest story to write.

They've hated him for a lot longer than that. The knives have been out for years.

It was Sale AND Eovaldi. Two questionable moves for guys with health concerns. This directly led to Mookie going to LA.

Sale = disaster. Eovaldi debatable: also missed time with injuries, but made the All-Star team and beat the Yankees in the Wild Card game (the $17 million AAV turned out below market value, but the total contract...). Pearce -- long gone, not a huge cost.

Bogaerts? It's only mismanagement in light of 2022, when the opt out issue possibly disrupted clubhouse harmony...

The real mismanagement took place before 2018, when the front office tried to tie up Betts several times but always at numbers just below what top of the industry talents were commanding.

Eovaldi extended for 4 years:

2019: bad

2020: ok, but hard to judge because it was only partial year

2021: great

2022: bad

Sorry, but I think the Eovaldi extension was a bad one. I know we all like Nasty Nate TM here. It's time to admit it wasn't a good contract.

Bill brings a lot of that on himself for his eloquent press conferences.

I wasn't thinking of the Bogey extension. Bogey is worth every penny.

The Pearce contract was small potatoes.

I would want my NFL head coach to win rings, not press conferences.

Some in the media understand how to get more out of Bill and ask the right questions. Some are just goobers who can't wait for his downfall, because they fear anyone smarter than themselves.

Agree, but the original comment was going all in from 2016-2018. The two you mentioned were very questionable, and did take up $40M of payroll.

I know. I commented above that going all in 2016-18 wasn't the problem. It was what came after.

When you run Brady out of town you’d better keep on winning, because the Pats fans got spoiled for all those SB appearances.

Boras probably insisted on the opt out clause for Bogey to sign his team-friendly, but its existence -- for a guy who has always wanted to stay in Boston -- made '22 the most stressful year of his career.

Because the listen to Sports Talk radio?

I can’t speak for anyone else, but my opinion of Bloom had nothing to do with Sports talk radio.

Whether Brady was run out of town or just didn't want to live near dumpy Foxboro in the cold winter anymore is up for interpretation. I think it's unsurprising that he went somewhere warm and to a team that he could just pull a Brett Favre on. It's good for the Bucs short term, long term they are in trouble.

It had a lot to do with not being able to call up capable prospects.

It had a lot to do with not being able to spend more on a closer, pen depth and a RH'd hitting OF'er.

It had a lot to do with one massive hole in the rotation: Sale, himself.

Plus, the 3 first place finishes got us lower draft picks for 3 years straight.

I believe you, but I do think you tend to think their views reflect the views of Red Sox nation, as a whole. You sure mention them, a lot.

I think Brady got way to much credit for the Bucs winning his first year there. True they needed a good QB, which he still was, but the Bucs were loaded on offense, and added more to it, and the D was pretty good too.

They were a loaded team, but Brady gave them the confidence they needed.

I don't think they win without him.
