There is little question now that it was Venable who messed this team up. AC comes back and in one game all is well in the Nation. Hitters hit, pitchers pitch and Bogaerts gets a day off.

Would a Zoom team meeting have been as effective?

With JD out with injury, resting the hottest hitter on the team is absolute BS!

YUP!

It makes no sense.

They rested Devers the other day vs a RH'd starter.

I thought this team respected analytics.

Hey, MOON, I'm not sure my playing MASSIVE ATTACK can compensate for Mr Whiskers' stupidity.

I'm rethinking my massive support of Cora.

He's been resting guys like this since he got here.

Yes, but it seemed liked he chose better days, before, but I could be wrong. (Also, when you win, more is forgiven.)

Why not at least rest Devers vs a lefty?

I think he locks himself into specific dates ahead of time and is inflexible.

The main job of a manager is to give his team the best chance of winning. Apparently, Cora is above that. And calling him 'inflexible' is being too kind.

Is this another one of those Moon Statement times? I don’t agree with what Cora is doing, but I don’t think he’s wrong? Very astute.

It's actually to win enough to make the playoffs. It's a long season, so some balance is needed, within reason.

While visions of April 2019 danced in my head.

That team wasn’t ready to play, and this team came out of the gates pretty listless too.

Cora is a smart manager and has certainly demonstrated that fact beyond any shadow of a doubt.

He also likes to rest guys. In this case, Bogey has played 13 straight games, plus it's a day game after a night game.

The other, rarely mentioned benefit--at least on talksox--of these "rest days" is putting lesser guys in the lineup to show what they can do.

Today, however, Cora is outdoing himself because this has to be the most putrid lineup I've ever seen. So, while I am a huge supporter of and believer in Alex Cora, I will blame him for this loss if such proves to be the case.

It's not just a crappy lineup, it's a signal to the pitching staff that Cora has no intention of winning, no matter how well they pitch.

Analytics said it was a good time to rest Devers; he was 1-11 careerwise against that RH starter. And yes, small sample size, but really that’s all any batter has against any given pitcher.

Today’s lineup has to be one of the worst lineups the Red Sox I’ve ever put on the field. The bottom six guys aren’t hitting their weight. That being said, they probably will score about nine runs.

A win vs the Jays also means a loss for them.

Rest these guys vs the O's.

I'll go with the larger sample size on lefty-righty splits.

Which is fine, but it’s not like he sat when a guy he crushes is on the mound that day. It’s at least defensible.
