Anyone would have predicted zero runs today from the Sox based on that lineup

This team needs a 10 winning streak. How you put that lineup after winning yesterday is a joke.

Cora is a smart manager and has certainly demonstrated that fact beyond any shadow of a doubt.

He also likes to rest guys. In this case, Bogey has played 13 straight games, plus it's a day game after a night game.

The other, rarely mentioned benefit--at least on talksox--of these "rest days" is putting lesser guys in the lineup to show what they can do.

Today, however, Cora is outdoing himself because this has to be the most putrid lineup I've ever seen. So, while I am a huge supporter of and believer in Alex Cora, I will blame him for this loss if such proves to be the case.

It's not just a crappy lineup, it's a signal to the pitching staff that Cora has no intention of winning, no matter how well they pitch.

This is what I wrote on page 2, so obviously I blame this loss on Alex Cora.

But the only guy Cora sat was Bogey.

Our hottest and only hitter, yes.

Plus, with JD already out hurt and wasting a start by Whitlock.

The modern philosophy of resting players is what it is. If fans had their way a guy like Bogey would never miss a game.

Anyway, if we only have one guy who can hit, we're screwed.

It is my opinion that today's managers are being unduly influenced by the unseen Ferdie Nerdwells in the front offices.

Yes, we know.

In a one run game today the teams, and league’s hottest hitter could have made the difference, but only getting one AB instead of four we will never know. I don’t expect anyone to not miss a game, but if healthy one does not need to rest 20 games into the season.

I think this board is dominated by grumpy old man types, but there's not much I can do about that either.

Cora has gotten a lot more roasted today off this board for resting Bogey today, and they are not all grumpy old men types. Red Sox Nation has been loud, and not happy about it.

Bogaerts had a hamstring issue early in the season, so maybe that played into it.

I do understand why resting good players, especially when hot, is frustrating. But I think they plan this stuff out at the start of the season, and to deviate from it would be like panicking.

The Jays sat Vlad today. He fouled a ball off his foot last game but finished the game. So they were being cautious, I guess.

The bottom line is our offense is in an incredible slump.

I have my own whipping boy, by the way.

Fatse must go!

That's exactly what I expect from sports fans who share their views in a public forum. They spend a huge chunk of their time complaining about something.

There were many fans who bitched about Francona's management a lot too. And he only won two World Series with us. And Cora, well, he's only won one, and been to the sixth game of the ALCS in one of his other two full seasons.

These are all veteran hitters on this team, so I don’t think who the hitting coach is would be a big reason for the lack of offense. The team has been listless since opening day, and I blame Cora for that. There was no mention of the hamstring being a reason for resting Bogey, and if that would be panicking for not resting him even if planned then so be it, but I wouldn’t call it that, and it is just Cora being Cora just like resting Raffy the day before. You have an opinion, I have an opinion, and all of Red Sox Nation has an opinion, but in the end it’s Cora’s choice.

Complain, complain, complain is the name of the game, and I don’t care how many championships somebody has won, or not won. How many championships has the Hoodie won with the Pats, and he gets complained about all the time. He doesn’t walk on water, and neither does Cora. If you give Cora all the credit for getting to the sixth game of the ALCS last year then he should share blame for being 8-12.

I'm not against resting, but I think we sometimes choose the wrong tome to do it. All-in-all, I'm still a solid Cora supporter.

Another one of your I don’t agree with Cora, but I don’t think Cora is wrong. Seems like I’ve heard that before. Some kind of supporter.

I'm rethinking my massive support of Cora.

You said you were a solid supporter on another thread. Kind of a flip flopper.

Fans of any age deserve to be grumpy when their team disappoints them. And forums are made for griping (there are very few posts anywhere lauding heroes and not pointing fingers) -- it's a form of therapy -- but it can be constructive when accompanied by suggestions for improvements.

Where it gets really grumpy is when posters automatically dismiss others' opinions, or dive into stats to dispute opinions.

Sitting Vlad is a whole different story. The Jay's are doing well so they can afford to sit him right now. The Sox are not doing well and can't really afford to sit top players right now. Yes it's a long season but these games count just as much as the ones in August/September. Last year is a great example how great it is when you start the season strong, even faltering down the stretch they made the playoffs.

Have you seen an NHL player take a day off? In any sports I've never seen a league give so many rest days. It's a long season? It's baseball. You can't even run the cather down anymore or break double plays. Old school players played every game with all that involved.

OK, so when would be the "good" time to sit Bogey? Let's say he played yesterday. Even if we won we're still only 9 and 11. So if he sat out tonight's game, there'd still be a lot of bitching.

9 and 11 is a lot better than 8 and 12. They are just digging themselves further down in the Hole. Baltimore is a s*** team. Yes, that's when you want to rest players as even a lineup like they rolled yesterday they could win against Baltimore.

Yeah Cora won the world series in 2018. That team was stacked. Any manager would of won with that team. They had 2 MVPs in the batting lineup and the pitching was quite good all around.

Posted
And why does Bogey have to rest anyways? Is he injured? I doubt it as they would mentioned something about it

All regulars have scheduled rest days now. The Yankees do it too and their fans bitch like crazy too.

The idea is that over the long haul it keeps guys fresher down the stretch and hopefully in the playoffs.

Also, everyone seems to think he is gone after this season. So USE him.

ABUSE him, you mean. Sure, that's gonna work. Maybe he decides to just sit out some games on his own then...

They made the playoffs by just 1 game last year. I repeat they made the playoffs by 1 game last year, so yes EVERY game counts, and if Bogey needs a rest so bad like you seem to think he does then I’m sure he would tell Cora, so yes 9-11 is better than 8-12.
