Bobby Dalbec continues to make it look like the IF should be:

3B - Dalbec

SS - Bogaerts

2B - Story

1B - Raffy

... or switch Bogearts & Story

The pieces are all there. It's just a matter of Cora getting them in the right places.

The infield is a mirror image of what it should be.

Is Devers?

(BTW, I'm fine with keeping Devers at 3B.)

You're fine with it, but you also reserve the right to use that 'mirror image' line on a frequent basis, right? ;)

He's adequate if he plays like 2019. He's not good if he plays like 2021. The trouble is, I'd keep him at 3b because the viable alternative is a guy who many wanted benched during 2021 and was worth 4 less WAR. It makes more sense to keep Devers at 3b until you can move a legit guy there (Xander for Mayer, Blaze Jordan if he develops, FA acquisition, etc.). It makes no sense to move Devers to 1b since you have a top prospect who should be manning that position for the long term starting sometime this summer.

Transition Devers to DH. Transition him to LF. Flipping him to 1b today makes no sense.

Over 67 innings, Dalbec has a career -2 DRS at 3b. That comes out to -38 DRS over 1300 innings. Not good at all.

As much as everyone hates on Devers at 3b, Dalbec is WORSE.

Please explain in plain language what DRS is and exactly how it is computed.

Defensive Runs Saved and its computed by people at Fangraphs...

Michael Walsh from Over the Monster:

However, since 2016 (using Defensive Runs Saved) Devers has literally been the worst defensive third basemen in all of baseball. His struggles on defense was something I was willing to deal with during his first couple of years, but now that we’re in year five, my patience has run out. Additionally, MLB Pipeline rates Bobby Dalbec’s fielding at 55/80, and he projects to be an above average third baseman. I don’t see any reason to not give Dalbec a few reps at 3rd base. Devers is a superstar at the dish, but it’s time to try something different in the field

Like WAR, it's far too complicated for us mortals to understand. It's better to just accept it and move on. /s/

I guess if you like a projected -38 DRS?

One thing I've noticed is that a guy can have a good score on UZR but a bad score on DRS.

Dalbec doesn't have a great UZR either.

Again..

It's interesting that when we had an OF who was one of the best in baseball we couldn't get him out the door fast enough because "he can't hit". Now we have the worst defensive 3B in baseball and we don't want to move him to another position because because he CAN hit.

I don't want to move him to 1b because it makes no sense if you have an amazing prospect who will be your fulltime 1b by the end of the summer.

I have said numerous times that they should transition him to LF. However, they don't have anyone who can take over fulltime at 3b. Dalbec isn't that guy.

Verdugo to RF

Bradley to CF

E Hernandez to 2b

Story to SS

Bogaerts to 3b

Devers to LF

There you go…

Exactly! As Richard Feynman said in the context of physics, if you have a word to explain some phenomenon or problem but cannot explain it in ordinary language, then you do not understand it.

You got me. I don't know how to calculate DRS.

I don't care to either.

Hill leaves the mound - I was getting tired of watching him "get his work in" as he threw batting practice to the Rays.

First time I ever saw a pitcher get drilled, then relieved, and then insist on re-taking the mound the next inning to give more runs to his ex-buds. Whatta guy.

Oh I admit I don’t understand all aspects of WAR and DRS and numerous other metrics, but that doesn’t mean I think they should be invalid or whatever. I also don’t understand how my cell phone works, but I can accept that it does…
