Carlos Correa is the closest thing to a young Arod we may ever see without PED

Correa is not even close to being a young ARod. Correa will be 28 in September. He's never had 100 RBI's or 30 home runs in any of 7 seasons in the bigs. He's an average player on a talented team (with Altuve, Bregman and Brantley).

Carlos Correa is an average player on a talented team has got to be the dumbest take I've read in a VERY VERY VERY long time.

Correa has been an average star on a great team for most of his career. Here are the Astros' bWAR leaders during Correa's career, 2015 to 2021:

1. Correa 34.1, 2. Altuve 32.7, 3. Bregman 26.1, 4. Springer 25.8.

There are injury concerns; because of missed time, Carlos' 162-game averages actually exceed his season bests in hits, home runs, RBIs and Ks. Last year when he was healthy, Correa's 7.2 WAR was right there among the top three position players, with Semien 7.3 and Soto 7.1.

He also was voted the Platinum Glove for best defensive player in the American League. That's the reason a below-average infield like Boston's could really use him.

No doubt we could "use him," and he'd also add a boost to the OF by making Kike our FT CF'er, but it's about the cost and the long term affect on who we can NOT add to the roster in coming years. Signing Correa almost certainly means good bye to Bogey, who has been way more healthier and steady. It might also mean no Devers.

Correa has been under a .730 OPS in 2 of his last 4 seasons. I just can't see thinking "This is the guy we have been waiting to go large and long" for.

Sure, we'd be way better when he's healthy, but I see and saw go off the board better options.

I’d sign Correa over Freeman…

If those are the only two choices, and the money is similar, me too.

If we sign Freeman, do we trade Casas and Dalbec or try to turn one into a LF'er?

Or, do we trade JD and make them DHs?

Casas can be the DH in 2023, as is, but choosing Freeman as "the guy" makes little sense to me, despite being a very good player.

I just keep thinking of big ol first basemen in their mid-30s after signing megadeals: Albert, Miggy, Prince, even Votto, until rediscovering his power last year.

And Chris Davis, who didn't even make it to mid 30s.

I thought it was the little guys who aged poorly.

My opinion is the opposite. Go figure. :D

I’d feel different if Bogaerts was locked up. But as it stands now, the Sox have better internal options at 1b than at SS. Plus the younger Correa is just entering his “prime years” while Freeman is exiting his…

I like this tweet. Plus, I just read an article where Devers says he wants to stay in Boston but hasn't ever been approached about his future.

It's one thing to be frugal, Front Office, but you can't even show your best hitter enough respect to just sit with him a minute and tell him you like him?

Why not both ? JD for Prospects and others who won’t fit next year ? More Prospects. You address the now and the future.Dump payroll on players that net you a kings ransom .Or maybe go with Freeman and trade Casas to Oakland for Murphy ? You get a 4 Win player and a Catcher who would significantly improve the staff ? I think we see our answer tomorrow and it’s likely just a tease but one can dream . Edited by Swiharts Ghost

Sorry, but Correa is an average player. 0.277 hitter with a 0.356 OBP = not a star (he could improve). ARod 7 years in was star (he already had 3 - 40+ homer seasons and 1 - 30+ , 4 - 100+ RBI seasons, a 0.309 average, 2 - 200+ hit seasons. Sorry, not close. Try again.

Freeman is off the boards. The Dodgers signed him, and I don’t see a fit for Correa. Move Bogey to 3rd and Devers to First?

Easier to move Bogey to 2B and keep Kike in CF FT. Verdugo plays LF or RF, depending on who else is playing- JBJ or Duran (the perfect lefty-lefty platoon!).

Bogey says he’s a SS, and not to interested in moving.

I thought he was open to moving.

I guess this adds a reason to not re-sign him.

I’m guessing it would come up in contract talks.

Correa is probably the one big move that could excite the fan base at this point. Will it happen?

Not mine, unless Bloom projects his SLG to come back around.

Notin I’m getting this feeling Chaim is in on Correa pretty much from the jump .Chaim traded Mookie away for Verdugo strait up in my opinion .The deal isn’t as terrible as one may think though even with Verdugo showing little power so far .Correa would be Chaim’s “I’m here you MFers “ moment .I like story here but the impact of a Correa deal ? For a market starving for attention?Correa needs to be A Boston Redsox .

Kennedy said the Sox are “sticking to their plan”. The plan was NOT to contend in 21. That excited the fan base and really energized baseball in MA. Nothing like a good underdog story. But the team from last year lost…

Schwarber

Renfroe

ERod

Ottavino

Richards

Perez

You’ve adequately replaced the pen arms. The starters, not so much. ERod’s FIP was really solid, even though his luck wasn’t there. Perez ate some innings. Wacha and Hill aren’t necessarily known as durable guys. Expectation was Sale would help, but he might be out into June.

And the offensive losses, not sure what to expect there. It sure looks like Duran is headed for regular work in 22 with JBJ as a 4th OF or lifeline should Duran suck. Either way, those guys won’t replace the big offense Renfroe brought. Schwarber was a beast offensively. Maybe Casas replaces that?

Also, if the Sox get Story, I expect they’ll deal Bogaerts, so I’m not sure that’s a major upgrade. Ultimately, Sox caught lightning in a bottle last year. I don’t expect them (but won’t put it past them) to do so again
