Carlos Correa is the closest thing to a young Arod we may ever see without PED

So after the historic 86 year championship drought ends, fans can’t go 4 years without a title anymore?

It's not about the lack of titles, it's about not being able to have players that you can reliably root for year in and year out. When it's just a never ending stream of hired guns, I think the enjoyment of following a team is kind of diminished.

The diminishment, from my perspective, is greatly outweighed by the rings that were a long time coming.

Once again absolutely right from this fan's perspective. The rings are nice for sure but when the season ends and things don't go your way - There is always next year. The season is a marathon and it overshadows the extended extremely lengthy playoff season which we have had to learn to accept. The season itself has lost much of its allure for me when the goal is simply to attain the last playoff spot. Nurse your players, stay healthy, and turn it on during the second season right. Doesn't make it for me.

That’s a bit of an overreaction to the hypothetical non-signing of two players…

We've let other legends walk or traded them...

Tiant

Lee

Lynn

Burly

Fisk

Boggs

Roger

Pedro

Manny

Betts

Price (not loved)

and some lessers but well-loved...

Damon

Beltre

many others

Still, to me, the rings were worth mostly choosing the right thing over sentimentality.

And if they both are out the door by 4/1/24? Is that still an overreaction? Am I just buzzarding again?

Here's a hypothetical for you: if the Sox offer Bogey an extension that equals what they just gave Story - 6/140 - do you think he'd take it?

6/150 to 6/180 maybe unless Boris wants more, and talks him out of it.

Close, but I'd guess no. I think he'll take $200M/8 minimum. (He'll likely ask for $280M/10.)

And is he really worth 150% as much money as Story or more?

Free agency is never about true worth, but then again, Story was a FA, too.

I think the Home-Away splits kept Story from getting more, and maybe his elbow injury kept his defensive value down.

Maybey Bogey gets $190M/8 or $170M/7. I doubt his highest offer will be as low as $150M/6.

Doubt he'll get 10 years since Correa went short.

His problem is Correa might re-enter the market next year.

Lindor and Seager are still the benchmarks every agent will want…

Story probably wanted a bit more than $140 M, too...

There are only so many crazy owners.

Thankfully, the one in Queens already has a SS.

A big problem now to me too is that with the Story signing I can’t see the Red Sox having 3 IF signed to big long term contracts.
