No it doesn't. We already know there are no clear definitions of a check swing, that all of them are judgment calls, and for swings like this, basically a coin flip. Only die-hard Giants fans or conspiracy theorists would choose this hill to die on.

I was going to respond with a retort, but why bother. You should stick to your "so and so sucks!"

Most wins in 2021

107 SFG OUT

106 LAD

100 TBR OUT

95 MIL OUT

95 HOU

93 CWS OUT

92 NYY OUT

92 BOS

91 TOR Did not make playoffs

90 SEA Did not make playoffs

88 ATL

That chart is a great example of why small sample sizes can be misleading. The full season win totals are much better indicators of team strength, but you better be ready in October or you get flushed quickly.

Yes, 2 of the top 3 and 3 of the top 5 are out, also 5 out of the top 8 are out, but that is common.

It's BIT unusual for a #9 team to advance to the LCS, but not unheard of.

Somehow it doesn't seem like an ideal playoff setup when the top 2 teams in wins meet in a first round short series.

I agree.

I can see honoring the divisional winners, but once the 4 teams are know, they should re-seed by record. It's not a hard change to make.

Seeding by record, which I agree with, worked perfectly this season in the AL for these PO series.

Sounds like you favor s*** umpiring. Or are you Nostradamus?

I do favor umps. They have never been better in 150 years of organized baseball. Have you already forgotten all the commentary that says the Rays were robbed by that call in the 13th inning of game 3? The only correct call was ground rule double, but that hasn't stopped people from discussing "what if . . . " ad nauseum. Besides, Flores was dead meat. The count was already 0-2 and he was going against Scherzer.

Yep. On the other hand, it was one heckuva NLDS.

Meh. The Dodgers had to play the wild card game before taking on the Giants in the NLDS, which gave the Giants a big advantage, just as it gave the Rays over the Sox in the ALDS. In fact, that's why MLB added the second wild card team in both Leagues--to force a wild card game and put the winner at a disadvantage in the Division Series.

It was no advantage playing the Dodgers after a WC game, instead of a rested MIL or ATL team.

Come on!

The Brewers and Braves are that awful? It's also a good bet that the Giants were going to have to beat the Dodgers to get to the WS, so why not play them after the wild card game?

I'm pulling for you guys tonight as I HATE the Stro's, even tho' you guys got rid of Joe Kelly and he shut down the Cards, ending my season! My bucks are on Boston

The Redbirds have owned Los Doyers for a long time. You can’t complain too much. That aside, a 200 mill payroll doesn’t hurt either. Los Doyers. The Cards will be just fine going forward. My father had a Stan “the man” Musial autograph somewhere.. probably still does.

Thanks for supporting the BoSox.

I don't see anyone beating the Dodgers. None of the remaining teams can compete against Scherzer, Buehler, and Urias, no one can match up against that kind of starting pitching depth. In fact, I think you would be hard pressed to find many World Series winners who could match-up against those three. The Dodgers are just better than everyone else.

Assuming the Dodgers win, and odds are they will, this would be the first time in a long time that a team won back-to-back titles.

They very well may win it this year but will they? Plus last years ring has a bit of an asterisk. How many players just simply opted out of playing? A two month season? The Dodgers did win but it was a very shortened season with numerous key players deciding that it wasn’t even worth the risk.

The Giants almost beat them.

No team is unbeatable, especially a baseball team.

LOL I guess you didn't hear that the Cards FIRED Manager Shildt! I guess he wanted to be paid like a manager of the year that lead his team to a 19 and 2 finish

I have no f***ing idea what beauty they hire to fire next year

PS: If you ever want to get rid of that old raggedy Musial, I'm your man  BTW I still have the '63 Yaz and Tony C. TOPS cards

No, I meant the Brewers.

If they re-seeded the playoffs by best records after the WC game, it would have been...

#1 SFG v #4 ATL

#2 LAD v #3 MIL

We now are hearing the same crap all over again. " Why , even if we lose , we had a great year. Exceeded expectations. " We heard it before the regular season ended , before the play in game and before the ALDS. When the Sox win this and go to the Fall Classic , we will hear it again.

We should start a thread on what is your most treasured piece of Red Sox memorabilia, apparel, etc..

There’s a time and a place for it but it’s not right now IMO. Right now.. you execute and punch a ticket to the World Series. IT’S WHAT YOU DO!

We have an offense unlike the giants.

Sale was a train wreck again. His command was more the issue for him and going 2 2/3 was less than we needed. Our relief was so so with guys leaving pitches over the middle of the plate. I was surprised that Swamamura was so wild and nervous. The guy is 33 years old and experienced but seemed overcome to be in the game.

Kike had a very great game. The rest of the team, not so much. We need a more aggressive, you can't beat me approach. If Kike can do it, can't they at least do a little more?

Oh, and pinch hitting a lefty against a righty makes sense only if the guy can hit.

Nate has five different pitches to hold off Houston. Garcia throws like Framber, so it will be like facing a pitcher the third time through in the top of the first.

And just like the Sox had three straight relievers fail last night, we're due for a parade correction from the pen -- three more in a row to come through; meanwhile, look for an Astro arm to cough it up.

Tonight the odds even up.

The Sour man hadn’t pitched in a while, and it’s not like he had been lights out anyway. They were only down 1 when he came in, and I wouldn’t pinch hit Santana for anybody.

Is this Dodger team better than last season?

Last year the Braves took them to game seven of the NLDS with a staff largely armed by inexperienced rookies.
