Even if JD remains on the team and Schwarber isn't re-signed, the SOX will still have enough offense. Sale and EO will need some consistent help in the starting rotation. Starting pitching is the main reason the SOX aren't leading the AL East.

Indeed.

I’d rather have Schwarber than JD, but JD is no slouch.

The big improvement by Dalbec as well as Verdugo looking more solid and Renfroe putting together a few solid months, does make keeping JD and Schwarber a bit redundant while taking funds away from improving the staff.

And as I have posted before, it would be great if both Houck and Whitlock pitched out of the BP.

Durbin Feltman, hard throwing 2018 3rd round pick just went 8-1 with 2.90 ERA between Portland and Worcester. He has a good chance to be in the bullpen next season. He closed for both teams.

Per Sox press release:" In his last 11 games for the WooSox, the right-hander has posted a 1.08 ERA (2 ER/16.2 IP) with 18 strikeouts and only three walks. Selected by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2018 June Draft, Feltman has averaged 10.79 strikeouts per 9.0 innings."

Can Renfroe have close to the same kind of year next year? No guarantees.

There is only room, or money enough for one of either Schwaber, or JD. Even though JD will get 100 rbi again it doesn’t seem like he has had a good of year. Schwaber is younger, but I don’t know if the Sox want to invest big money in a DH again. Money has to be spent on the rotation, and I don’t know if that includes E Rod.

I agree that there's no way the SOX would have both JD and Schwarber on the team next season. Dalbec's immense improvement at 1st just adds to the improbability like you stated.

Texas has blown the 3-0 lead. Now tied 3-3. Yankees will probably win. Sox need at least 1 win against the Yankees. Two would be huge. Yankees finish with 3 at Toronto and 3 at Tampa Bay. I don't see Tampa coasting in. They will want to stay sharp and knocking out the Yankees would make them happy. I am sure they don't want to see the Yankees in the playoffs. Sox should get 4-6 against Orioles and Nationals. Maybe 5-6.

Got a feeling that texas will blow that 3-0 lead. A leadoff walk to start the 5th inning.

Rangers pitchers have given up 5 walks and a wild pitch which scored a man from 3d.

Not gonna get help from the rangers

I don’t worry what Toronto, or the Yankees are doing. The Sox are 2 games up in the loss column, so all they have to do is take care of their own business, and it won’t matter what the other teams do. Take 2 this weekend, and everything will be fine.

A team can never have too many good arms in the pen, especially since Barnes has done a complete nose dive.

Plus Tampa would like to retain having the best record in the AL because Houston is only 2 games behind them in the loss column.

With only 28 players, you can't rest everyone.

My good buddy Matt Barnes is probably the only pitcher I know who cannot throw strikes against a 11-2 lead . f*** this idiot who i have denounced since he ever picked up a baseball. He was born a loser and will die one day wondering what he did for a living. This is Daniel Bard #2, before Bard's recovery. There are not words strong enough to express my personal trashing of Matt Barnes an ass clown if there ever was one.

Very true. The SOX have complete control of their destiny for the final 9 games.

Casas will be coming sooner than later too.

Nice outing by Barnes....21 pitches, 8 strikes.....he's such a wuss

He is just not confident right now but he deserves a lot of credit for the first half the Sox had. Lets not forget that.
