Here's the harsh reality. Before his contract extension and medium sized payday, Matt Barnes showed flashes of brilliance but also complete lack of confidence in himself and his abilities. When he got paid , it broke his weal mind because he thought he needed to live up to his contract hype. He fell completely apart mentally and now, like Bard, cannot throw a pitch to save his life. He was always mentally a mess and now with the pressure of of an 11-2 lead , he shows what is really going on inside his otherwise empty head. The Sox will need to trade him so he can reset on another team's back. Sox should offer to pay out his entire contract, just to move him out of the clubhouse and bullpen.

And some people still miss JBJ on this team. I'd take kike in center over JBJ easily and it's not even close

Maybe even over the JBJ of years ago!

Between 1B, DH and LF you can make it work with Schwarber.

JD will be gone in another year.

I rather have Schwarber's bat than Richards ($10M) and Perez ($6M). JD's $22M will come off the books for 2023 season.

Plus Kike is a much better hitter than JBJ.

Plus Kike can also play other positions on the field. But in defense of JBJ, he made some of the greatest catches I've ever had the pleasure of seeing by a center fielder.

You're too modest, Moon.

Okay, I got a few more things right, but many wrong, too... like thinking Verdugo in RF and Renfroe-Cordero platooning in LF.

JBJ hitting somewhere in the .170's this year. Must be that the NL doesn't use a DH

$24M for 2 years......there were people on this board that wanted him back....

Unfortunately, Vegas, a DH can only be used to bat for the pitcher. I'm sure you knew that, but I get what you mean.

Late post I know. Not a bad night for Sale. 5 innings with only 2 runs given up and 8 K’s. Was hoping for 6 or 7 but nice night over all

I had similar stats

5 pieces of chicken

7 helpings of fries

Not my finest hour but not bad

Barnes is a shell of his former self. Wow. Can't finish an inning with an 11-2 lead.

Brasier saved his ass. Barnes just turned into a pumpkin. His control and command is not there. Crazy how this guy is choking.

Wonder whether people still think he his a good RP.

We have to replace ERod and Ottavino, too.

Yes, we can make it work with JD and Schwarber, but it would be very complicated and defense-weakening. I’m thinking we’d trade JD, if Schwarber is re-signed. We may also sell high on Renfroe, and move Verdugo back to RF. Trading Verdugo could be another option.

Here’s a possible rotation with everyone back:

10 game plan

JD 9 at DH- 1 off

Dalbec 9 at 1B - 1 off

Verdugo 3 in LF - 4 in CF-1 RF- 1 off

Kike 6 in CF- 3 at 2B- 1 off

Arroyo 7 at 2B- 3 off

Renfroe 9 in RF- 1 off

Schwarber 7 in LF- 1 DH- 1 1B- 1 off

Verdugo plays 8/ Arroyo 7, everyone else 9/10

Otto challenging Matt for the last seat in the BP. These guys may be legitimately worn out due to the heavy bullpen usage all year, but this won't get them beyond the WC game

Pressure got to be too much for him.

Ottavino will be pitching in high leverage situations for the rest of the season and the playoffs.

As Perez points out on ESPN broadcast, the Mets defense, at least in this game, is truly bad. Makes our guys look like gold glovers

It's interesting that his decline happened right after he was given the extension. He could also be a victim of the outlawed spider tack.

its easy to speculate on why Barnes imploded.

It’s hard to know for sure.

I just hope he can return to being the decent set up man he was for several years before 2021.

I’m sure glad others have stepped into new roles rather nicely, although the learning curve gir ruff there for a few weeks.

Well our season is on the line against the Yankees at home. Make or break.

Win the first game of that series and the rest will be survivable. Lose the first game and the tension will be thick

This season will be the 3rd straight season(not counting 2020, which I never do) that the O's will have lost more than 100 games.

But were in the postseason as recently as 2016. Figure that one out, Machado
