Are we now worst to first in a week?

And I think we all know what the most important factor has been - Max’s complete inability to read a calendar...

Mad Max Mojo!

Every other team in our division is 4-5. Woot!

It's been a sweet week. No less for the fact some posters post a lot less when there isn't something to complain about.:D

I'd complain about today's MLB Power Rankings -- Sox are still #20 with the best record in the AL -- but mlb.com employs the all-time Bronx cheerleaders, so we're looking way up at the #3 team (behind only LA and SD) -- you know, the one with a losing record, inept defense, invisible offense if it can't homer, and overrated pitching staff of hopefuls and mopefuls.

A 9 game sample size, with 6 vs the O's os not really enough to convince many people this team might be for real.

That being said, I do think maybe 15th or 16th would be acceptable.

Let's see what happens in the next two series. If we can come away at .500 or better, you'll see that ranking rise (Twins ranked 4th and CWS ranked 7th).

USA Today has us 16th (up 6 slots):

I get that the Sox might not be for real. But I've been saying since the start of winter that the Yanks may not be "pretend"... and so far, they've done nothing to convince me otherwise (though somehow, all professional pundits still think NY's SS and C situation is not only championship caliber, but heavily favorable).

It's such a long season. I've been taking my shots at the Yankees while I've had the chance, but I also realize they could get hot all of a sudden.

This seems to happen every year. They start slow then get red hot. Their issues have been hot bats with warm weather and cold bats with cold weather. When the calendar flips to October, the bats go dormant again

So then how do you explain losing two of three at the Trop and getting absolutely shut down on Saturday? Can't blame weather on that

The bats won't really hold back either team over the course of a full season. But everyone knows that quality defense -- at least, consistent D -- is vital to winning rings.

And any honest Red Sox or Yankee fan knows that over the long haul -- beyond pitching reclamation projects -- defense is each of their team's biggest areas of concern.

And they likely will, unless injuries get in the way...

They look at rosters and projections more than game results after just 9 games, which isn't really illogical.

The thing is, injuries have been a big part of Yankee seasons for several years, now. They have done nothing about adding durable players, and in fact, they added more injury prone players, instead (Kluber & Taillon).

It's almost like expecting many injuries for their team should be the norm.

Cashman likes injuries and hates shortstop defense...

That's the small sample size affect.

Note: the small sample size of the first O's series was enough to prove that the Sox were a last place team this year.

All kidding aside, if I had to put significant money on it, of course the Yankees will finish ahead of the Sox.

As a Yankee fan on Sox board, you'll get everyone's best 'shot'. I think you're good sport.

I think you're very knowledgeable about the game and that's all I care about.

You have to let us have some fun though....

Realistically, this year we're trying to identify the next core group to go capture the title. I'm 65, I don't give a damn about winning seasons....World Series championship.

Yep. Major double standard

When things are going bad, there's definitely a lot more posts in the game threads. I don't get it, but oh well. LOL

It's so easy for many to criticize and complain.

Praise seems to come harder for many.

Meh. We need to gripe when disappointed. Less need/compulsion when the Sox are winning.

I find that I post less in general when the Sox are going well. It's like you just to want to ride the wave while it lasts and not even talk about it.

Afraid of jinxing it?

Sometimes people use these forums for cathartic purposes. Hey if trashing the Sox in an online forum gets that frustration out of your system, it’s probably a good thing.

There’s no praise because no one needs a catharsis when it’s going well. During those times, we just deal with doom and gloom prophecies from Jacko...

That’s why I haven’t posted in the last 6 game threads until after the win...

Some of us don't want to expedite the inevitable popping of the balloon. Complaining is human, but gloating is uncool. Even when the '18 team was 70-30, we didn't dare brag, because 1). they could still blow it; 2). if they didn't, the pressure would then be on in the postseason; and 3). none of us actually played on the team.

I used to hardly ever post in game threads due to rampant negativity and Cora bashing.

I also used to watch the games on tape delay and fast forward commercials until I caught up live around the 7th to 9th inning- sometimes after the game ended. I sometimes joined late in the game.Lately,I've been watching live and checking into the game thread here and there.

It seems tamer, even during the 3 losses to the O's, although that wasn't all that tame.

This is a baseball fan forum. Yes, many, many of your brethren gloated when the sox were crushing it in 2018. I would have been too if I was a sox fan. When your team is better, I can take the punishment, the question is can you handle the reverse? Also, life is too short to feel relief when your team wins a title. Enjoy the run and feel the pain if the run comes crashing down, yet celebrate when they reach the mountain top. It's the beauty of life as a fan. Don't let it pass you by, life is too short

Can we "handle it?" Some of us went decades without a ring.
