My guess is Sox brass views him as ML ready. That might be the only factor at stake, here.

I'd assume giving Chavis another look (or two) would come before Wilson, and if we are sending Dalbec down, Chavis makes more sense.

Sending Santana packing is another story. Maybe Wilson would get the call to replace him.

I'd keep Dalbec up, DFA Santana and figure out who to call up out of Wilson/Chavis. Could be a good tip of the cap to call up Wilson for how well he's playing?

Wilson started playing pro ball at age 17. He's been playing in parts of 7 seasons!

It took him a while to get to AA and AAA, and he only has 103 games at those levels under his belt, but it seems to me like he's as "ready" as anyone else, or more so.

His 8 HRs are very eye-opening, in terms of past power issues, but he also has 7 2B+3B and a .612 SLG%, this year in AAA (122 PAs).

His 2019 season was very good, too:

1.016 at A+ (167 PAs)

.879 at AA (40)

.878 Fall League (34)

@jcmccaffrey

Sawamura has a sore right hip and has been getting treatment. He's not available today. Cora said it's possible he might need an IL stint but they're still figuring that out.

I think it's just about Cowboy Kaleb Orton time.

We'd need to make room on the 40 for him.

Brandon Brennan or Marcus Wilson? I’m taking action...

Wilson is hitting too well.

Bye Brennan. Or 60IL Potts.

I believe you're missing the calculation of service time.

172 days = 1 year of service time, usually there are 187 days in baseball season.

If Duran gets called up today (assuming September 30th is the last day of baseball season), he can only accrue 21+30+31+31+30 = 143 days of service time in 2021. Thus his six year team control will not start until 2022.

I think you're getting confused with those players having 4 years of arbitration in 6 years opposed to normal 3 years.

Top 20% or 30% of players accruing most days this year with less than 172 days will be eligible for 4 years of arbitration.

Tell me I'm all wet.

If I own the Sox, I'd say we don't have the top line pitching to win the world series. As we've seen, good pitching stops good hitting.

Obviously we're competitive.

I'd love to identify top 3 pitchers for each of 5 contenders in American League to see how they would fare against each other.

Our top 3 if everyone was pitching to potential would be E Rod, Eovaldi and Richards.

This would appear to mirror high school tennis match from my state (excluding two doubles teams).

I think we would be in trouble in a one, winner take it all game.

I would not be comfortable in a five or seven game series either. It's very possible they can outperform expectations but I'm not seeing it.

Then it goes back to are we content in 2021 just to get into the playoffs and pull the USA hockey team miracle? Don't get me wrong, I'm pleased with the progress the team has made.

Every team is in trouble in a one gamer.

As for a series, we've swept 3 from each of the Yankees and Rays, so that's encouraging.

I see that in 2018, we won game 1, 8-4. We won game 2, 4-2 (D Price got the win), We won game 4 9-6. We won game 5 5-1 (D Price got the win #1).

Chris Sale coming back 100% would change the equation for 2021.

I think Ort has earned a trip to Boston. But so has the starter espinal. I think his stuff plays better from the bullpen.

Ps: maybe hang’em Chaim is on to something with collecting ex yankee pitchers!

If players earn a trip by doing great in AAA, then call up our best:

OPS Against

0.390 Workman (already up)

0.536 Ort

Singing to the choir.

It was nice seeing Kike get on base 3 times and Arroyo get 3 rbi from the end of the line-up, so it's hard to complain, tonight.

Arroyo got 4 rbis.

Some things to consider. ERod had another weak start, although the Astros can make any starter look weak. It does point out he is our only left hand starter unless and until Sale gets back. We had our best lineup in last night although one could debate where Arroyo should hit. With Verdugo, JDM, Bogaerts, Devers and Vazquez in the lineup, we have a very dangerous offensive team. add Renfroe, who has been hitting reliably, Arroyo back from injury and Hernandez who is also showing signs of life and there are few holes. Worth mentioning is that with Santana slumping badly and Gonzales a basic utility guy we only have 2 left handed batters in the lineup. Duran and Casas are not available for 6 weeks and Cordero was given his shot. Is there another left handed hitter who can give us additional balance?

Dalbec did hit last night which was good for him. He actually swung at a first pitch which he hasn't been doing. I hope for his sake that he can continue to show some signs of life.

Duran can be called up whenever they want to bring him up. He's not required to play in the Olympics.

And who do the Sox turn to if Duran doesn’t dazzle in his first 102 plate appearances?

Since this is the Realistic thread, I hope the last two weeks of watching the Astros bash finally shows some fans how overblown their "scandal" may have been overall. Houston's top batters from their pennant years are still stars, including Altuve, Bregman and Correa. Springer did fine last year. Yes, their current attack also features guys that weren't around -- Brantley, Alvarez, Tucker. But by now, it's looking like those who benefitted most by the trash cans were more marginal players like Reddick and Marwin...

Fans need to let it go, especially in convicted Boston. New York fans know their guys aren't perfect either; they're just bitter because they never won it all in the "Paying Attention to Details Era".

Franchy? Wilson? Mieses?

I think if you call up Duran, he's here for good.

Not to mention, cheating with trash cans has quickly been replaced by cheating with Spider Tack. Good times!

It's hard to believe Cora's opinion counts more than you guys.

No one has responded to my comment about the Sox losing a year's control if a player is called up TODAY.

They can not accrue one year of service time this year any longer. Thus if Duran is called up, he'll be here for 2021,2022,2023,2024,2025,2026 and 2027.

Only issue is if they can qualify for four years of arbitration. Now that becomes a money issue and not player control issue.

That's how I understand the rule.
