Unless there is an injury, how many at bats do you think Chavis will get in April in Boston? Yes, it will be more than 0. But it might be less than 15.

Good news yesterday: Rodriguez is throwing a really nice ball, super exciting to watch him pitch.

Bad news yesterday: no game today! I am getting the DT’s days the sox don’t play.

Possible, but if they keep 14 pitchers and no one is hurt (which might not be the case as we do have Franchy Cordero), who doesn't make the team? Plawecki (or equivalent) is a certainty. That leaves 2 roster spots for Gonzalez, Arroyo and Chavis.

Maybe Chavis should take up catching?

I’d start the year with 13 pitchers and maybe bump to 14 after we start the first long stretch with no days off (mid April).

Cora and Bloom do not appear to share this plan.

And I can see going with 14 pitchers in April. Starters will likely be on pitch counts and probably rarely go 6 IP in a start for a few weeks, leaving a lot of available innings. And the Sox will not want to burn out the bullpen by June, since no one really knows what the effects are of all of these players entering their first 162 game season since 2019...

Good news today: Duran with 4 hits and a stolen base.

Bad news today: eovaldi throwing a lot of meatballs!

Duran won't make the team out of ST. They want him to get more CF experience.

Good news today: dalbec continues to hit mistakes. He seems more and more of a three outcome hitter, hit strike out, or walk!

Bad news today: Perez is a starter for us!

I believe a 'three true outcomes' hitter is actually home run, strike out, or walk. No balls in play.

FWIW Dalbec doubled and singled today and is hitting .324 in spring games.

... and got robbed of another extra-base hit his last AB. Good thing stats don't matter in ST... or Nate and Martin would be in mid-season form.

Hernández 2B, Verdugo CF, Martinez LF, Bogaerts SS, Devers 3B, Renfroe DH, Gonzalez RF, Plawecki C, Chavis 1B, and Pivetta RHP

2nd inning is not so good for Pivetta. Plawecki didn’t help with a passed ball allowing first run to score.

Good news today: Taylor seems to have his control and is throwing a really nice ball.

Bad news today: soft runs against (passed ball by the catcher today) seem to mentally get in our pitchers heads and live there. Pivetta’s control was not good today.

Is this your attempt at another smarmy post?

Didn't mean to be, Larry. Just saying the "three outcomes" are home run, walk or K, not hit, walk or K.

Dalbec and Chavis each with another dinger today. They both have 6 in spring games.

Even if Chavis isn't on the roster on 4/1, I think he'll get a good opportunity at some point.

@jcmccaffrey

The thing about Dalbec is he's not *just* hitting homers (six) and striking out (15) this spring. He's hitting for average (.333) too. He's got the second-most hits on the team with 12 - six homers, two doubles, four singles. Again, small sample size, but something to note

Oh definitely.

Maybe he can take over 2b, push Kike to CF, Verdugo to RF, and the Cordero/Renfroe platoon to LF. Cut Brice to make room...

@SoxProspects

Today's pitchers out before today's lineup. Richards to be followed by Brewer, Valdez, McCarthy and Walden

@SPChrisHatfield

Two things stand out with this group: 1) Brewer and Valdez probably fighting for last bullpen spot, and 2) McCarthy maybe throws twice more before Sunday, when his upward mobility clause kicks in.

To explain the McCarthy (& Herrmann) thing again: On Sunday, Red Sox have to offer them to every team. If a team wants to put one on their 40-man roster, Red Sox either need to do so themselves or let them go.

@PeteAbe

Garrett Richards working at a good tempo, pumping strikes.

4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 60/30.

Acuna got him but otherwise really sold.

Two good outings in a row for Richards. Positive development for the rotation.

Good news today: verdugo got a hit today. We need him to be Sharon one April.

Bad news today: what has happened to devers swing? He looks like he is trying to do calculus while he is in the batters box!
