#RedSox (vs. Braves, 1:05): Hernández 2B, Verdugo RF, Martinez LF, Devers 3B, Renfroe DH, Gonzalez SS, Vázquez C, Dalbec 1B, Duran CF, and Andriese RHP

Verdugo in RF and Duran in CF sounds like a good idea to me.

The Dalbec experience:

@redsoxstats

Update: 16 at bats this spring: single, fly out, ground out, 4 home runs, 9 strikeouts

I love Devers, but this Dalbec stuff is just so much fun. I want him to hit 80 HR's and k 300 times.

Stanley was right. I never hit another home run. I struck out most of the time. But they always remembered that home run and while they still hated me, it was a better kind of hatred, like they weren’t quite sure why. - Charles Bukowski in Ham on Rye

40HRs and 400Ks is fine with me, as long as his OBP is above .330.

(I think it will be above .345.)

Good news today: houck got his control back. If you throw dalbec a fastball down the middle, he will kill it.

Bad news today: our starting pitching continues to imitate last year’s crew.

Houck is a starter- maybe not in the rotation on opening day, but he's looked good. Pivetta has looked good (3.60 in 5 IP).

Nobody else has more than 4 IP.

Starting rotation numbers mean jack in ST.

Except when they get just a few less IP than the norm and go on to implode that season.

Then, it's the be-all-end-all.

Slasher isn’t here anymore. Don’t try to invoke him.

He was the worst "offender," but others felt it was a major issue for our implosion.

@RedSox

Why homer from one side of the plate when you can homer from both?

Dollar Store version of Bill Mueller.

@SoxNotes

Marwin Gonzalez has homered from both sides of the plate today. No Red Sox player has done that in the regular season since Victor Martinez on 5/17/10 at Yankee Stadium.

Professional outing from Eduardo Rodriguez today. Final line: 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K. FB was 91-93 and CH and SL both were good after he settled in. That velocity is a bit down from 2019, but by the time the regular season comes around I suspect it will tick back up to normal

Good news today: Rodriguez threw really well today. He does not look to have any residual myocarditis. I thought arroyo had done good at bats.

Bad news today: brewer is still on the roster.

ST stats don't matter. I never said that. What matters is getting in your work to build arm strength to get ready for the season. The rotation was not ready to come out of the gate in 2019, and their April stats reflected it.

Didn't we beat this whole heard of dead horse already?

Sox Starters

APR ERA/ July ERA

Sale 6.30>5.86

Price 3.60>5.04

ERod 6.16>2.03

Porc 5.52>7.94

Eovaldi 6.00>12.27

Only Erod seemed to get much better, and he was the one who got the most ST'ing IP, that year. Sale got slightly better. The other three did much worse in July- worse than their horrible Aprils.

Yup. I still think the whole blame-Cora narrative has less to do with Spring of '19 than Fall of '18, when he pushed four veterans to work beyond normal routines, starting one day, relieving the next, and we all agree it was worth it to win that ring.

Recovery -- if it ever fully occurred -- subsequently took longer than normal, as well. Except for ERod -- who not coincidentally, was the both the least-used in October '18 and the youngest in '19...

Pitchers sacrificing their arms and maybe even careers to win it all in any postseason isn't a new concept. It's probably one of the main reasons it is so hard for champions to repeat the next year. In that sense, give credit to LA for adding Bauer this offseason.

Well said, and a lot of other things went wrongly that year, too.

Yeah, rough first outing, just like Richards and Houck.

I'm not worried about Richards. Houck and Sawamura are still big question marks.

Good news today: Garrett finally got movement on his pitches. Arroyo swing looks good.

Bad news today: Sugimoto with a bad case of the nerves and wildness.

Posted

Good news today: is Perez on steroids? His stuff looks so much better than last year. Arauz is really swinging the bay well.

Bad news today: Duran can be overpowered at the plate.
