So is the best we can hope for is Odorizzi, Colome, Kike and Pillar, then maybe trade Beni for a RP'er or lesser RP'er and CF'er/RF'er?

That seemed to be the plan all along from the smoke signals the media has been putting out.

We may fill one of these slots via trade, but this does look like the plan.

@redsoxstats

In the last two offseasons the Red Sox have signed 8 major league free agents for a combined 8 years, $22.95M.

This winter and last or the two before this winter?

We have done some major extensions.

Must mean last offseason and this one. Sale and Bogaerts extensions were in 2018-2019 offseason. As was Eovaldi signing.

I'm tired of waiting.

I am certain we will spend, soon, but this is killing me!

Yeah, we've been kind of assuming we at least sign Odorizzi, but maybe he's too expensive too.

Maybe Henry put the clamps on the budget altogether because of COVID losses.

@Dan_Shaughnessy

What’s the Red Sox’ plan? Sam Kennedy says they’re ‘building back up’ rather than going all-in

Makes me wonder that they don't plan on being competitive this year? IDK.

DEFCON LEVEL: 6.5

I can't see the prices of pitchers like Odorizzi going lower, next winter, so why not make a move than makes us better in 2021, as well as 2022 and 2013.

No long term risk.

No $20M+ cost per year (maybe not even $14M x 3).

Just do it, Bloom!

Nothing said seems shocking or surprising to me. We knew we were not going all in, this winter. We knew that long ago.

It's not shocking, but it's not going to be very fun to watch this team if they can't add some viable arms and a CFer.

FYI the Defense Condition scales counts backwards to 1 where “nuclear war is imminent.” DEFCON 5 is “lowest star of readiness.”

Bloom has done as close to nothing as possible this offseason. I am with Kimmi thinking that ownership doesn’t want 2 seasons in a row with complete futility, but that’s where this roster will head without significant upgrades.

I will be surprised and upset, if we don't spend between $20-30M by the deadline, especially if we don't add a decent to good SP'er.

19 of the top 30 still unsigned. Things may not be as bad as it seems.

Not if the Red Sox sign 4, 11, 15 and 26...

I'd be happy with 11, 26 (or 27), Kike & Pillar.

That's the point -- we're diehards, and most of us would be happy just watching actual major leaguers. Meanwhile, we while away the winter by posting lists of projected rosters with SP: new guy; RP: new guy; 2B: new guy; CF: new guy... but where are these guys? And will they be bonafide MLB regulars... or openers and platoon players with years of control and trade-worthy value...

But "not going all in" doesn't mean trading off all the peices and just building the minor league system. It certainly means no ludicrous mega contracts, which we already all guessed anyway. And there was not much of a selection to give one to. It probably means not dealing any of the more promising prospects. But signing some free agents to 1-3 year deals could still be on the table.

Odorizzi appears comfortble with a 3 year deal, which is why he is still an option. Semien is the odd rumor, since one would think he would NOT want a one year deal and re-enter the market in next year's SS class...

Let's wait and see what the team looks when the season starts. Ownership is aware of the current mood of the fanbase. Moves will be coming.

Apparently Bloom's hands are tied if you're expecting big moves.
