Another Bloom guy.

I like Andriese, but he’s a role player, not a difference maker...

He's a role player that is better than the vast majority of the dreck they had in the pen last year. I don't think anyone thinks this wins them the offseason. It's a minor move.

@ChrisCotillo

Matt Andriese contract details:

* $1.85M base salary in 2021

* $3.5 million club option / $250k buyout for 2022

* $2.1 million guaranteed

Escalators/incentives based on innings. Deal maxes out if Andriese throws more than 150 innings each year.

And monkeys might fly out of my butt.

@redsoxstats

Out of about 90 still available free agent relievers, Andriese's .284 xwOBA in 2020 ranked 25th.

Fastballs up, changeups down type. Batters swung at 101 changeups and whiffed 27 times.

There’s your swing guy. Used to be a starter, now a multi inning reliever. Perfect for the way Bloom roster builds.

Can't help making the comparison to righthander Chris Flexen, another California swing man signed by the Seattle Mariners earlier this month.

Matt Andriese is guaranteed $2.1 million for one year with options up to $7.35 million while Flexen is guaranteed $4.35 million over two years with options up to $13.75 million. The 31-year-old Andriese is five years older than Flexen.

Andriese and Flexen likely have similar roles ... and similarly complicated guaranteed MLB contracts.

Going to be kinda negative on Bloom .I just don’t see this as anything more than throwing pizza against the wall.I find what Bloom has done with the Redsox in a year to be graded as no more than a C .Bloom better make some moves or I’m thinking we finish a distant 3rd barely better than Baltimore.Springer is a NO BRAINER for CF yet this is what’s being sold to Boston .I can’t stand this GM I think he’s trash .Wooooo hooooo another trash Rays castoff .Give me a break .Fail on acquiring Springer and I’m done with this team .

Reminds me of the guy who swore up and down we needed to sign Hosmer.

Springier is an All star he’s a player that would improve this team dramatically if you think springer is a huge mistake please explain ??? We don’t trade for the guy it’s freaking Money Moon !! If you want hand me downs you seem to have the right GM then .I See. BLoom lost out again on his original target to the Dodgers and went for a comfy has been Ray .Bloom is a overrated GM he’s done NOTHING Special for this team Nothing !!!!! We need Springer Moon and it’s no mistake .

It would be like signing Carl Crawford.

We need 3-4 pitchers, badly.

You can choose to not believe Bloom has a spending limit, but that won't change the fact that he does. Signing Springer means no signing any pitchers.

That's the biggest mistake of all.

There are other reasons beyond the budget, one of which is his blah defense. He's also past prime.

Bloom is not overrated. He built a solid Rays team. His hands were tied, last year. They are somewhat tied, this winter, too.

Give the guy a chance.

There is zero chance we sign Springer, so if that's what we need to do for you to stay a Sox fan, adios. Go follow the Dodgers or Yankees.

I love these types of signings. Even though none of them worked out all that well for us last year, I say keep 'em coming.

But Bloom didn’t sign any MLB role players last year. Just a bunch of career minor leaguer hopefuls...

Martin Perez blew up last year's budget LOL.

Plawecki filled "a role" nicely, this season.

The Munoz pick-up shows promise. Not many others surprised us.

Let's see how he does with a more significant spending budget.

Actually, he was about half of the budget given to Bloom.

What do we make of Semian romance ? I absolutely Love this player and have been pining for him awhile .Bloom is giving me some hope this morning .I know many on here want front line pitching ,I do too but besides the guy from Japan I can’t lock in on anyone but TB ? I am truly frustrated and have been the last

Year .The injuries the Mookie situation that I thought was a solid but not spectacular return has been eating at many of us .I would love to see Semian here he could upgrade SS or 3b and maybe that makes the 2b interesting .Can we assume we can then just move the kid that we acquired last year ex SF player can’t think of his name ? He’s an upgrade over Chavis .Can we then assume JBJ may be coming back ??? I love springer I’ve made that painfully obvious but with Semians offense and moving Devers to 1b DH a year early ? Or do we move Rafy ? Maybe to Colorado ??? Nolan .Semian Xander is one hell of an infield .I don’t know if Rafy can be fixed and maybe the organization feels we need to trade him a year early to max out his value ? I prefer getting Puig and Semian and JBJ then Moving Devers and Benny for Nolan and pitching .Signing TB on a 1 year deal may happen but I’m thinking he goes to the Mets

I'm glad you are not our GM.

I'd have to switch to another team.

Fair point lol .Chances of a Nolan Trade is a lottery ticket .I guess I’d be fine with Semian at 3rd and moving Devers over to first .I do love Puig in LF with JBJ returning and Verdugo staying put.Arroyo seems like a natural fit for second .Trade Benny Chavis in a larger trade for pitching ? Or just blow budget and go get springer and TB .

I certainly don't know what the plan is, but I do think they need to make a splash and come up with a big , impact signing. The " throw it against the wall and see if it sticks " signings are just not enough to even warm up the old hot stove.

Does the Piittsburgh trade of Josh Bell to Washington make trades of potential pitching targets Joe Musgrove and/or Jameson Taillon more or less likely?

Denny, the truth is that too many Red Sox fans are spoiled and fickle.

Take the JD Martinez signing. That was a splashy signing and one that almost every Sox fan wanted to see. And DD signed him on a very reasonable contract.

And he had an awesome season in 2018 and an excellent one in 2019.

But how fans feel about JD now, after he had a bad stretch of 60 games in 2020?

The answer is that a lot of them would love it if we could unload him and his 22 million hit to the payroll tax the next 2 years.

They want the splashy signings but they bitch and moan if the player doesn't keep performing at the very highest level.

Fans want it all, basically.

Okay , but I don't think that I am in that category. I want them to spend and go after the impact players , but I don't cry about it and hate the players when it doesn't work out as planned. It's all a gamble . But at least they tried. No guts , No glory.

But if the splash signing doesn't work out it can also put a damper on the team's financial ability to fill other needs.

We've seen a lot of splash signings like that in the last decade.

I doubt we sign Semien, but if we do, he'd be our best defensive SS, so that's where he should play. That means moving Bogey to 3B & Devers to 1B or Bogey to 2B. Or, we trade Bogey.

I have very little interest in Puig, and I think JBJ will cost too much.

You hardly mention pitching, which is our highest need area. Trading Beni & Chavis will not net us squat, in terms of quality pitching.

Please look at Nolan's home & away splits and tell me you still want him and his bloated contract.
