We can pay part or most of JBJ's contract, if it can improve the return.

We could also couple him (or Pillar) with Perez and/or Vaz and go for a bigger haul.

Some of you guys (moon, notin, Larry Cook) would trade your next of kin and a pet dog to be named later, if it improved the Sox future outlook.

Not true. I would not trade my dog...

Rumor: giants interested in Bradley!

Now is not exactly the time to trade away your only black player...

Thunder giving him a chance at another World Series is more than fair .Giants seem like an odd pairing though .

Why? If we are truly to be a color blind society...judge him on his ability, not as a "token" (not meant to be offensive but it sounds like youre saying keep him because he is black?). JBJ is a 1st class human being & I love watching him play, but he is likely not offered a contract for next year so if you can get something for 30 games of him, do it. Im sure he understands as well.

We've got the reset.

So Clevinger .Do we jump in this ? Barnes JBJ Pillar prospect and cash ? Something of the sort ? Do we just turn to Rays for Pitching ?

People take things so seriously these days . We are becoming obsessed with racial matters. African American and black have become interchangeable . But a black guy living in the Dominican is not an African American . And Hispanic is not a race . The Red Sox have a number of black players. But JBJ is the only African American on the team. Whether or not that is a factor in trade considerations is strictly up to Sox management. That is ( sadly ) where we are today.

No that’s not what happened here .The statement made was not aloof it was very pointed and someone responded with a well thought out response .I don’t think it was a joke and why would you “joke “ about such things ? now back to trades .

I don’t think that package gets you anywhere near Clevinger, even if the prospect is Casas or Downs...

Padres are close to acquiring Austin Nola. That would take them off Vazquez...

The Padres have been trying to compete with the Dodgers for a few years now . So far , it hasn't worked.

So now we wait .I don’t want Vaz in the AL east but if it’s the Rays I get it .Whats the difference in pitching prospects between Rays Mets ? Mets have a fantastic catching prospect is all I know .Francisco Alvarez .Cleveland wants Verdugo .Might be interesting 15 hours ahead . Edited by Swiharts Ghost

The Padres also acquired catcher Jason Castro.

I wonder how that impacts the playing time of Austin Nola, a pleasant surprise on my fantasy team.

The Mariners might need a catcher unless Luis Torrens, acquired in the Nola trade, is ready.

Francisco Alvarez is 18 years old and has barely played Rookie Ball. He’s not a factor in acquiring Vazquez, unless they send him back...

You don’t have what the Guardians will want. The crap you threw in there doesn’t help them. The Yankees also don’t line up well with them. The Guardians are dealing from a surplus. They don’t need young pitching, they’ve got it in spades. They need offense, and with the Yanks offense on the IL, they need all they could get. Unless you’re willing to part with Xander or Devers, you don’t have the MLB ready offensive players they’re gonna want

If the Yanks were healthy, I’d build a package around Tauchman or Frazier, but with Judge out til the last week of the season and Hicks leaving yesterday with an injury, we cannot really afford to deal from our now very much needed surplus of outfielders. Freeing a tooled up Wade or Estrada for trade would be useful too, but with Torres out and Urshela dealing with a bone spur in his elbow, they need those two guys. Ford would be desirable as a third guy, but with Stanton a frequent visitor to the IL, they need to keep him around.

My bet is Clevenger isn’t moved at the deadline. You don’t deal a guy who’s that good because of a one night lack of judgement that wasn’t illegal. My bet is the Guardians deal Clevenger in the offseason because he’s starting to get expensive in arbitration

I think Yankee fans overestimate the value of Tauchman. Teams dealing aces don’t do so for packages around 29yo platoon players. Also, the Guardians had Frazier once already. They didn’t want him.

Baseballtradevalues.com places the value of Clevinger at $38.4 million in surplus value. The values of Tauchman and Frazier are $6.8mill and $6.1mill respectively.

Basically our package was bad but so was yours. The difference is the Sox could (if so inclined) offer Alex Verdugo ($46.1mill) for Clevinger

Why the heck would they want that? Also, Frazier is killing it this year

MLB.com predicts a Bogaerts to Twins trade for Polanco and top prospect Lewis, another ss (neither can pitch). These are the type of rumors that radical posters on forums muse, just a trade for the sake of a trade -- "oh, we get more years, at cheaper cost"... you know, like small market clubs might say.

Why in the hell would we get back another 3rd basemen.... we need arms! If this is the bloom method we’re doomed! We have too many roadblocks at certain positions to just take on more mediocre prospects!

IMO, you take the deal for the best players you can get, whether they are in a position of need or not. Same thing with drafting - draft the best players available rather than drafting players in positions of need.

You can then trade from your areas of strength.

This does make you wonder if they're punting 2021, considering they could have had Moreland back next year for only $3 million.

I can't see any way this team is punting 2021.

In my dream world, the Padres will decline Moreland's option and he will re-sign with the Sox for the same amount.

I'm afraid that $3 million option will look pretty nice to the Padres.
