We have had a family member in intensive care for 12 days now and he is not responding to the specialty drugs. A young man with 2 children. There is still hope but it has been a protracted fight. I still think sports keep us occupied but this pandemic is certainly front and center in our lives. Anyone with a large family has a moderate probabily of the same experience, just based on the number of infections.

I will keep him and you in my prayers.

I am sorry to hear that he is still not responding. Hoping for the best for him Oldtimer.

They need to cancel all sports this year period it’s stupid and trivial to care about sports at this time is shortsighted .Go be with your families learn to live without distraction this year. 2021 should be the goal anything sooner is irresponsible and I hope no one watches or goes to games .Send your money to people in need it maybe your neighbors

Actually if televised baseball was on, it would keep myself and millions of others occupied and indoors every night...

I understand what you're saying about baseball being trivial in comparison to everything else going on right now. This is a great time to spend quality time with family members.

That said, sports can have a very positive and healing effect on people. Many, many people have said the 2013 Red Sox played a big part in helping them cope with and heal from the marathon bombings. Having sports to watch would provide a lot of people with a much needed psychological boost.

Now, I'm not proposing that any sports resume until it can be done very safely for all involved. But I also don't think it's stupid to hope for sports to return sooner rather than later.

Kimmi it’s dumb and this angers me .Screw baseball this year who gives a rip ? People are dead and we are all in mourning take this time to re-evaluate if Baseball is truly what you think people need .Wow I’m losing respect and want to throw up

After 12 days of unrelenting bad news, our prayers were answered and his fever broke last night. Now he will remain ventilated and hopefully will be able to recover some or all of his strength. Thanks for your concern.

Not the only source of entertainment. I take it you bought stock...

I spend more time browsing on Netflix than watching any of their own shows.

During WW2 FDR kept baseball open because he thought it important to maintain homefront morale. While times have changed and the enemy is different, it will be important to the nation's morale that competitive sports return. At the appropriate time I am sure they will. I suspect around mid July we will see some sports reopen in some form or another.

In this day and age, the NFL is more important than MLB.

But NFL football is more susceptible to the spreading of COVID-19...

Tiger King is weirdly captivating.

Their documentaries - many of which are not original - are pretty good. I recommend “Beyond the Curve” about the Flat Earthers...

Getting less and less likely now but that's good news as we wouldn't be contending this year anyways.

No, it's not good news.

Great to hear Oldtimer! Continued best wishes for him.

Quite frankly I suspect the PGA will be the first to reopen albeit before a very limited gallery.

I don't have Netflix, so I can't watch it, but all I keep hearing about it Tiger King.

It just doesn't sound appealing to me, but it must be good.

Great to hear! No matter the religion, the power of prayer is stronger than ever

As a fan of the PGA and volunteer at one of the scheduled June tournaments, I agree with this. I also think they will only play in areas that were not as badly hit, at least initially

Reminds me of another Newfie joke. You know how the Newfoundlander is riding out this crisis? Net fix! I know it's bad but hey I think it's kind of cute.

Sorry Kimmi, face the facts. I'm not any bit more happy about it than you are

But does it really matter if football is more popular than baseball now? Baseball is still pretty big.

No not at all. But what's the point about arguing about which sport is more important? It's an objective topic, based on TV exposure and overall revenue

Popularity is certainly objective. Importance is subjective, right?

I suppose. I guess I was tired of Kimmi retorting any time somebody said anything about a different sport. We get it, you love baseball. We also love baseball, but we also love other sports. I know she was kidding, but don't make us feel bad because we don't like baseball as much as you do, you know?

Often times it's the scarcity of something that makes it popular See: Toilet Paper.

IMO it's difficult to say that one sport is more popular than the other since it might depend on saturation. Would football be as popular if people could tune in to it six nights a week? Would baseball be more popular if it were only played on Sundays?

That's a fair point. However, due to the physicality differences in each sport, that situation won't ever happen. It does make you wonder though

Not to mention, football is impossible right now. How are players supposed to social distance in a huddle?
