https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2020/07/nationals-cancel-workouts-covid19-test-delays-mlb.html

Nationals cancelled today's workout since they still haven't received their COVID test results.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal tweeted that testers who were assigned to the Angels and two other, yet-unknown clubs simply didn’t show over the weekend.

LOL

@Britt_Ghiroli

Nats: Per MLB’s protocol, all players and staff were tested for Covid-19 on Friday, July 3rd. 72 hours later, we have yet to receive the results of those tests. We cannot have our players and staff work at risk. Therefore, we have cancelled our team workout this morning

Reportedly, Manfred jumped all over Mike Rizzo for his statement about testing yesterday. Manfred is losing it. Interested to see how he'll bungle next year's negotiations.

Bobby Dalbec and Eduardo Rodriguez have tested positive, Ron Roenicke said.

Dalbec is asymptomatic. Rodriguez is feeling better.

Obviously both have to test negative before returning.

God, no. This is the worst decision.

MLB should be staggering games 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 10pm (PST games) for the whole season.

Pushing everything to 730 is so dumb. So most games won't end until after 1030? Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

I don't like it.

It looks like it's just the Sox home games that are starting at 7:30. The other teams appear to be keeping their start times closer to 7:00.

In a weird season when everyone is already miserable, pushing start times back is not the olive branch that fans want.

You're not looking at the benefits: older fans will have more opportunities to watch advertisements for products they don't need (cars), don't want (airlines) or already can't live without (beer). It's all about the sponsors... though subliminal jingos won't make a difference if there's no disposable income in a pandemic.

ESPN has learned that during MLB's 8 days of intake tests, 3,740 saliva tests were completed, 66 positives (1.8%) 58 players, 8 staff. In first batch of next round of testing, “monitoring,” 2,111 tests were completed, 10 positives (0.5%) 8 players, 2 staff

NBA: We're going to play games all-day

NHL: We're spreading six games across the day as well.

MLB: We're syncing our watches and everyone will start at 7:35 local time, got that?

I agree that it's stupid, but it's easy for NBA and NHL to pull off because everybody is at the same complex. MLS is doing that too. In baseball, teams will still be traveling. You can have earlier games on the weekends, I suppose, but if you had a late game Thursday, had to travel, and then had a Friday morning game in a new city? That wouldn't work

So don't schedule the late games on get away days? A lot of teams avoid that problem. Red Sox ownership doesn't care at all about the issue. I was one of the talking points back in 2012.

Yeah I agree that there should be more day games, especially in the summer. Just trying to explain/understand things from the other side

I still think it would have been a good idea to play all the games in one or two locations and limit the travel.

In like a Spring Traning complex that has 4 fields already? Or in an MLB stadium?

I liked the idea of using Cactus League/Graperefruit Leage stadiium. They don't need the seating capacity anyway, and the season could extend a little later if it needed to so there was a much less chance of post-season games getting snowed out...

Some of the players , especially those with kids , are going to be playing with a lot on their mind . Have to wonder how it willl affect their performance in a sport that requires plenty of focus .

I don’t think that is anything new. Players don’t live in a life bubble. These guys experience family illness, deaths and hardships in their lives just like everyone else.

I was thinking in a Spring Training complex because they would need several fields.

@DodgersBeat

I asked Stan Kasten last week about Drive-in Baseball. He said they were in discussions on a number of projects just like that but nothing to announce yet

What is more comfortable: couch/bathroom/fridge combo or a car?

With large screen hi def tv's being more normalized, I don't see any reason for people to be drawn to drive in's for a regular season sporting event.

Well yeah. On the other hand, I spent many evenings in drive-ins over a half century ago, and hardly ANY of that time was spent looking at the screen.

Meanwhile, this:

https://www.si.com/mlb/2020/07/10/will-mlb-testing-plan-crack

Makes sense. Whenever I have a broken arm, I always look for a clinic devoted to, say, pediatrics, with no experience in setting bones. For the system to work, there's going to need to be an accuracy rate in the high 90's. Without that, and unless all positives are re-tested immediately, the number of false positives is likely to be equal to the 'correct' positives. I.e., a lot of guys quarantined who are perfectly healthy.

Also, this article makes clear that ANY kind of testing draws on resources that could have been used elsewhere in the community.

Well, there's Netflix and Chill for that now. No reason to steam up your car windows.

Also, making out in a car is the worst. Modern cars with bucket seats are no longer made for it.

Sending all of the tests to Utah doesn't make much sense to me.

@TomCaron

The crowd goes wild, as they experiment with piped-in audio here at an empty Fenway Park.

Worth noting these crowd tracks reportedly come from the league, and all teams will be experimenting with them over the next two weeks.

Red Sox Chairman Tom Werner, Pres/CEO Sam Kennedy, and other staffers are on the field listening to various versions of crowd audio, and at various volume levels. Manager Ron Roenicke said yesterday the team may try it for today’s intrasquad scrimmage at noon.

Here is what’s going to keep #BlueJays players in their stadium/hotel bubble this summer:

Per multiple sources, players have been told penalty if seen outside ballpark is $750,000 fine and potential jail time.

I fully expect the same stadium sounds for HRs across the league, even the annoying foghorns in the Trop and Toronto

The Trop is just going to be one lonely cowbell being rung for 3 hours straight.
